Bill Belichick faces fresh humiliation after UNC emails about girlfriend Jordon Hudson, 24, are revealed

Daily Mail8 hours ago

Despite Bill Belichick 's celebrated arrival at the University of North Carolina and the uproar surrounding his relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, the new Tar Heels football coach's name was continuously misspelled by school officials in internal emails.
Raleigh's WRAL News published a bombshell report Friday after receiving those internal emails in response to a public records request. Much of the discussion centers on the fallout from Belichick's disastrous CBS interview, in which he and Hudson refused to discuss the origin of their widely discussed romance.
However, the public records request also revealed an exchange between media relations staffer Brigitta Shouppe and senior associate vice chancellor in the Office of University Communications Beth Keith in which they discussed criticism from an alum.
'Never did I think UNC would become a laughing stock in the sports world because of his young girlfriend,' the UNC grad wrote in an email, as reported by WRAL.
Shouppe responded to Keith hours later with a proposed response, albeit one that misspelled Belichick as 'Belichik' throughout.
'Thank you for reaching out, for sharing your views, and for your continued engagement and interest in Carolina,' read the proposed statement. 'Coach Belichik [sic] brings a wealth of experience in coaching and football at the highest levels. The news media has demonstrated an ongoing interest in those previous experiences and activities outside of Kenan Stadium.'
Those uncovered emails also lay bare Belichick's attempts to contain negative reaction to that CBS interview, much of which centered on Hudson's role with the team. The school has since clarified that Hudson is not employed at UNC, but remains welcome in the athletic department.
'Jordon and I have both a personal & professional relationship,' Belichick wrote to Keith. 'This is not a secret... Jordon assists me with my personal media, which is why I asked UNC to forward media requests (E.G. CBS 60 Minutes) to her.
'Jordon has zero involvement in the UNC football program, beyond the degree that my personal media intersects with it.'
Belichick also explained why his young girlfriend was at the interview, which was organized to promote his new book: 'The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football.'
'Jordon was present at the CBS interview because David Kass, the Simon & Schuster publicist, was not there,' Belichick claimed.
'I included Jordon in the book acknowledgments because she was a creative contributor to the book, including having the idea for formatting the 4 special pages in the book.'

Reds' Elly De La Cruz and Mariners reliever Trent Thornton fall ill while playing in extreme heat

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz and Seattle Mariners reliever Trent Thornton got sick Saturday while playing in the extreme heat that covered much of the United States. De La Cruz vomited on the field with two outs in the fourth inning of Cincinnati 's extra-inning loss at the St. Louis Cardinals. He was checked on by a trainer, and two workers from the grounds crew cleaned up the area. The 23-year-old De La Cruz, who is from the Dominican Republic, stayed in the game and hit a two-run homer in the seventh. Thornton pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings for Seattle before departing in the eighth in a 10-7 loss at the Chicago Cubs. The 31-year-old right-hander had to be helped from the field. Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Thornton had 'a little bit of a heat-related illness.' 'It was a scary moment, for sure,' Wilson said. 'He battled hard. But just really glad that he's feeling a little bit better now and should be OK.' The gametime temperature for Reds at Cardinals was 92 degrees, and it was 94 for the first pitch of the Mariners' loss to the Cubs. Milwaukee's game at Minnesota was played under an excessive heat warning. Seattle and Chicago finished their game with three umpires after Chad Whitson got sick. Dexter Kelley moved from second base to home plate. Whitson was treated in the Mariners' dugout. 'He came in, same kind of thing. Just was not feeling well,' Wilson said. 'Threw up a few times in the dugout and then they came and took care of him from there. The heat was a real thing today, for sure.' Whitson was dealing with some dehydration, but a Major League Baseball spokesman said he was doing better Saturday night and had been cleared to work third base for the series finale. A Wrigley Field staffer had a heat-related medical issue right after Saturday's game, according to a spokesman for the Cubs. He was tended to by medical personnel and walked off the field on his own. The Cubs set up cooling and misting stations throughout Wrigley to help fans with the heat on Saturday, along with additional emergency personnel. The team had similar plans in place for Sunday, along with bringing in a city bus to use as a cooling station on the street. ___

Tommy Fleetwood leads by three to boost maiden PGA Tour win hopes in Connecticut

The Englishman fired a flawless 63, including five birdies and an eagle at the par-five 13th, to reach 16 under par, three clear of American pair Russell Henley and Keegan Bradley going into Sunday's final round at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut. It was Fleetwood's lowest round on the PGA Tour this year – two shots better than his 65 on the final day of the Truist Championship in Philadelphia last month – and just one stroke away from his best ever. Back-to-back days with eagles on 13 for @TommyFleetwood1 🦅 📺 CBS — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) June 21, 2025 'It (winning) will come down to a bunch of things,' Fleetwood told CBS Sports. 'I haven't been in contention much at all this year, I've been on the outskirts if you like. 'My best finishes have been just outside of being in contention, but like really close. So to put myself there and be in the last group (on Sunday), I'm really happy with that. 'I've been here plenty of times, I'm looking forward to it. I'm happy with the work I've done and happy I've bounced back for the first few days of this tournament from last week (US Open). 'It's just an amazing opportunity for me to go out and enjoy it, and hopefully it's our time.' Fleetwood would be a popular winner as the 34-year-old had the most top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour since 1983 without a win. That number totals 41 – seven more than the second man, Brett Quigley, on that list – but the elusive victory hovered into sight on a curious day when overnight leaders Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas went backwards. World number one Scheffler made a triple bogey seven at the first hole and was strangely out of sorts for most of the day. Scheffler signed for a double bogey at the eighth and dropped more shots at the fourth and 16th saw him finish with a 72, nine shots adrift of Fleetwood at nine under par. Thomas went round in 73 with his card wrecked by a quadruple bogey nine at the 13th as he sat 10 shots back at six under. American Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley roared into contention with a 63 to join Henley, who shot 61, on 13 under par. Jason Day is two shots further back. Solo leader Tommy Fleetwood is looking for his first TOUR victory @TravelersChamp 🤩 — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) June 21, 2025 Rory McIlroy covered the outward nine in 31 to move to nine under par and put his name high on the leaderboard. But the Masters champion took six at the par-four 12th and a birdie at the 15th was quickly cancelled out by a dropped shot at the next. McIlroy starts the final day tied for eighth among a group which includes Scheffler.
