Carlton players have left the field to a chorus of boos at half time after a six-goal North Melbourne quarter at the MCG left their season hanging by a thread.
The Kangaroos booted 6.2 to 0.1 in a second quarter onslaught that left Carlton's season in a precarious position.
Carlton is already fighting for a finals position, two wins out of the top eight, but an upset loss to North Melbourne could spell the end of the hopes for 2025.
Carlton was wasteful in the first quarter, kicking 2.6 to 1.3, but the floodgates opened in the second term as North Melbourne ran rampant.
To make matters worse for the Blues, they are one of the league's worst-performing second half teams, making the prospects of a comeback slim.
Earlier, Carlton dodged a bullet after star defender Jacob Weitering was taken from the field after injuring his left ankle early in the first term against North Melbourne.
The Blues vice-captain was forced to leap over Cam Zurhaar deep in attack as they chased the loose ball in Carlton's attack.
But he twisted his ankle on landing and immediately raised his hands to the trainers signalling he was in trouble.
The game was stopped as the Blues medical staff assisted Weitering from the ground, with the backman unable to put any pressure on his ankle.
It came just after North Melbourne forward Jack Darling had to leave the ground after getting a big gash in his leg after going down in a contest on the Shane Warne Stand side.
Darling returned in the second term after getting treatment in the rooms.
Weitering had some medical attention but gave Blues fans some hope when he did some run throughs at the quarter-time break and he returned to the field to start the second quarter.
Nick Dal Santo on FoxFooty said he had rolled his left ankle and spent most of the rest of the term down the race, re-emerging with a minute to go in the first term.

There can't be too many concerns over Charlie Curnow's calf after his stylish arrival to the MCG.
The star Blue was subbed out of last week's win at half time, with many worried he would not be fit to play against North Melbourne.
He was named to play on Thursday and looked the goods as he rode up to the ground shortly after 11.30am on Saturday.
Curnow arrived on his bike, sporting sunglasses and a helmet, in his Carlton pregame fit before passing security and riding into the belly of the MCG.

Fevola was very much king of the kids, leading the fired up Underdogs in the banner run through before the start of the Carlton v North Melbourne game. Carlton favourite Charlie Curnow greeted the team at the top of the player's race, footy great Jonathan Brown gave the Underdogs a rousing pre-game speech, and Andy Lee was their water boy. Their banner read 'Fifi, Fev & Nick's underdogs bullied, excluded, left behind. Melbourne, time to be kind. Let's hear you roar!' And the MCG certainly roared, getting behind the mini battlers. Fevola said it was an honour to create such special memories for kids doing it tough. 'They're down in the rooms with their own locker, their own Pumas, they've got everything,' Fevola said. 'It's really cool. I love kids, I'm a kid myself, and it's something we can do that doesn't cost anything and bands the kids together. 'We thought, 'let's bring all these kids together for one big cause, to play on the MCG for one game. They got to run out through the Carlton banner, which is crazy.'

The Pies rarely venture away from the familiar confines of the MCG, playing just six interstate games across this season, which includes Gather Round. Of their 23 matches this season, 14 of them are at the 100,000-seat MCG, with another three games around three kilometres across the city at Marvel. Poor things must feel lost having to travel all that way and somehow find a seat in the diminutive 53,000-seat venue. 'It's always a nervous one, 10 years, nearly 180 games, three-time leading goalkicker at St Kilda and then he got the sack at the end of the year. 'What a great pick up from Collingwood.' While former key forward Mooney was excited about Membrey, man of those watching on were poking fun at the venue for the Collingwood side. Sports producer Brad Klibansky noticed the banner and tweeted: 'Cheeky from the Pies.' Max Blake joked: 'Spare a thought for Collingwood players and fans playing a home game on the road at Marvel.' An X account called Broice wrote: 'Important road-trip for the Pies tonight.' Anthony Leach was having fun, tweeting: 'Did Collingwood sell a home game to St Kilda? I guess that's what battler clubs have to do to make a buck.' The official Collingwood account tweeted its Game Day Guide on Friday with the caption: 'Our first home game under the Marvel Stadium roof for 2025!' It's fair to say their huge supporter base was far from pleased, particularly as Marvel happens to be St Kilda's home ground. Another blamed the AFL, writing: 'Why are Collingwood playing at Marvel? Poor from the AFL.' The underdog Saints did their best to take advantage of the game at their home ground, trailing by just two points midway through the third term. St Kilda kept fighting, but the Pies kicked four goals to two in the fourth quarter for an ultimately comfortable victory. England captain Ben Stokes says Jofra Archer is 'absolutely desperate' to be involved in the upcoming home series against India and so revive a Test career that has been stalled for more than four years. Archer enjoyed a spectacular start with England in 2019. The Barbados-born fast bowler played a key role in the team's 50-over World Cup final win at Lord's and made his presence felt in a dramatic drawn Ashes series with Australia. For all his undeniable talent, a succession of injury problems have blighted the Sussex speedster's career. Archer played the last of his 13 Tests in February 2021. England have kept faith with Archer. He is due to make his first-class return for Sussex against Durham on Sunday as part of a plan that could see him feature during a five-match series with India that starts at Headingley on Friday. X SUBSCRIBER ONLY Archer's latest rehabilitation has been delayed by a broken thumb, although that did not stop the 30-year-old pushing for what might have been a rushed return in last month's one-off Test against Zimbabwe. 'Randomly, a couple of times, he would just send me a text saying, 'Zim?' 'I was like, 'let's just hold it there, all right. I know you're in a good spot right now, but let's not just rush into it'.' Stokes added: 'He's obviously had a horrific time with injuries, but he's had some good amount of cricket, albeit in the white-ball formats. 'It's really exciting for England, but also more exciting for Jof that he's in a position now where we're able to have a plan in place and hopefully him get through something to actually be considered for selection for Test cricket.'
