Man and woman mauled by 'Bully-type dog' as three animals seized from home

Daily Mirror5 days ago

Police have seized three dogs after a man and woman were mauled and seriously injured in the middle of the night.
The man and woman, in their 30s and 20s respectively, were rushed to hospital after the horror attack in Blackpool shortly after 2.30am on June 15. The bully-type dog thought responsible was seized, as were two other dogs at the scene.
A Lancashire Police spokesperson told The Mirror: "We were called at 2.38am today by colleagues at the North West Ambulance Service to an address in Havelock Street, Blackpool, to a report two people had been attacked by a dog. Officers attended and found that a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s had suffered dog bite injuries. They were taken to the hospital for treatment. A bully-type dog involved in the attack has been seized, as have two other dogs at the premises."
Last month, a church volunteer was viciously attacked by an XL Bully while he was sleeping - with the banned breed ripping off his ear.
Darren Shuttleworth-Long was looking after the dog, which isn't his, when he was set upon on April 26 earlier this year at an address in Exeter Street, Swindon. The 52-year-old had fallen asleep next to the pet but woke up to it with its jaw locked underneath his armpit.
The dog continued to attack and bite Darren, from Swindon, Wiltshire, for around 10 minutes. The XL Bully managed to tear his right ear off and also left half of Darren's nose "hanging off".
Darren, a volunteer at his local church, said: "I went to sleep and had the dog asleep next to me. I woke up and it had latched on the side of me. I managed to move it off.
"It attacked me again and hit me on the side. I crashed against the bedroom door and locked myself in with the dog. He was having a go on my right ear. He bit my ear off. He hit me about eight to ten times - I thought 'I'm in serious trouble'."
It comes after the owner of a Bully dog that attacked a five-year-old boy claimed the child was "in the wrong". Arron Eccles' Pocket Bully attacked Antonio Quinn after the boy came into the house and startled the pet.
The dog left Antonio with injuries to his face and legs. Antonio went on to need a three-hour-long operation and the pet as well as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, owned by Aaron's partner, were taken away from the site of the attack. But Aaron, 34, has defended his pet, telling The Sun: "It's a genuine mistake and the parents aren't accepting the fact that their child's in the wrong for coming into the house."
rron also said he would be happy for his pet to play with his own six-month-old son. Antonio's stunned mum Amanda Holmes slammed the owner's claim and said the child was "very lucky to be alive", insisting he was not at all to blame. She claimed that "trying to justify" the dog's behaviour was "sickening".

Fire at former Blackpool club used in Robbie Williams video

Firefighters have been dealing with a blaze at a former working men's club in Blackpool once used in a music video for singer Robbie Williams. Pictures show smoke billowing from the Central Club on Kent Road, which had also been used by criminals to set up a £1m cannabis farm in 2021. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said it believed the building was derelict. A spokesman said the service did not believe there were any injuries but had not yet been able to fully access the building to be certain. Eight fire engines attended the scene and used an aerial ladder platform and a water tower to bring the fire under control. The service said a "large smoke plume" had spread in the area and urged people close by who could see or smell the smoke to stay inside and keep windows Police also told people to avoid the area, particularly Seasiders Way, Kent Road and around South Shore. The Central Club featured in Williams' 2005 song Advertising Space and was a popular fixture in the seaside resort's club scene. However it has been closed for a number of years and was listed for sale at £300,000 in 2019. In 2021, Lancashire Police found 1,500 cannabis plants and growing equipment in the building and a man from London was arrested. According to reports from The Courier Mail, emergency services were called to their home in Port Lincoln in South Australia. On investigation, first responders found a man's body in what has been described as a "grisly scene." ‌ As yet, the identity of the 34 year old reality TV star has been kept under wraps but, according to the publication, she was arrested and later charged with murder. ‌ The Courier Mail has stated that she appeared on the popular reality TV show which aimed to match a nerd to a beautiful woman. South Australia Police confirmed that the victim and suspect were known to one another. The arrested woman refused bail and now remains in custody. Major crime and forensic officers travelled to Port Lincoln in a bid to assist local police officers with the investigation. South Australia Police told The Mirror that at 3.25pm on Thursday 19 June emergency services were called to the property after "reports of a small fire." The statement said: "When police entered the property, they located a man deceased inside the premises. A 34-year-old Port Lincoln woman has been arrested at the scene and has been charged with the man's murder." It continued: "She has been refused police bail and may appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today. Detectives from Major Crime Investigation Branch and Forensic Response Section officers flew to the scene last night and are assisting local police with the investigation." ‌ It added: "Police believe both the man and woman are known to each other and there are no community safety concerns. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers online at or call 1800 333 000. You can remain anonymous." On hearing the news of the death and subsequent arrest, one neighbour told Perth Now that the woman in question is "really nice, very pleasant, polite." Ian Parrott of South Australia Police said: "I can reassure members of the community that this is not a random incident." He added: "We understand that the female who has been arrested and the deceased male both lived at this address." ‌ It's believed the pair had recently moved in together. The officer of South Australia Police added: "It is still very early stages of this investigation and it's likely that the Major Crime investigators and the forensic response members will be there most of today." The cause of death has not been concluded. At the time of speaking to local media, the victim's family had not been notified and therefore further details pertaining to the investigation could not be released. ‌ The suspect has reportedly been held under the Mental Health Act and has not sought bail. A court date has been set for December where the suspect is believed to be attending. A suppression order is now in place which will prevent the identity of the woman being released along with the victim or details regarding his death. The order is reportedly set to be under review by the court next week. The Mirror has contacted Beauty And The Geek for a comment.
