Mathura man uses fake social media IDs to dupe women, arrested
A 26-year-old man, who allegedly duped a woman of Rs16 lakh by impersonating as a sub inspector, was arrested near platform number 9 of Varanasi Cantt police station during the wee hours of Wednesday, said police. The man has also duped 13 women from four other states by using IDs of public servants and promising the victims placements in government departments.
The accused has been identified as Munfaid, a resident of Devseras village under Govardhan police station area in Mathura district, a police officer said.
Munfaid impersonated as sub inspector Deepak Kumar Ranawat who is the public relations officer of Commissioner of police, Varanasi, Mohit Agarwal, and used Deepak's photo and identity in his own social media account to commit fraud, said the police officer.
As per the cops, the accused duped the complainant Anita Yadav for ₹16 lakh in the name of providing her son a government job.
Anita had logged the complaint with the Police Commissioner on May 27, alleging that sub-inspector Deepak promised her son a government job for which he sent one of his men to her and took ₹16 lakh from her, she alleged. Neither did her son get a job nor was her money returned, she added.
Soon after the complaint, the police commissioner ordered a probe and directed deputy commissioner of police, crime, Sarvanan T to investigate the matter. Also, sub inspector Deepak has been removed from the post of PRO till the investigation is completed.
Probe by DCP crime revealed that the accused used sub inspector Deepak's photo, name and his fake identity card to cheat women.
The police officer said that during interrogation, Munfaid said that he used to upload photos and videos of police officers from the internet and by creating fake IDs on social media platforms, he used to talk to people posing as a public servant and used to collect huge amounts of money by promising them government jobs.
Meanwhile, the involvement of sub inspector Deepak Kumar Ranawat in the crime has not been found yet.
After the matter came to light, the accused was booked under section 318 (4), 319(2), 336(3), 338, 340 (2) of BNS. Section 204 has been added to the case, added the police officer.
The accused was presented before the court from where he was sent to the jail, added the officer.

Firing at club in Bestech Mall: Mohali police recover illegal weapon used in crime
A day after a firing incident took place at Bestech Mall, Sector 66, police recovered a .32 bore pistol from the accused arrested in the wee hours of Thursday. The footage captures a group of five individuals dragging Akashdeep, dressed in a white shirt, out of the club and physically assaulting him. At around 1.15 am, another man, Siddharth, wearing a blue shirt, stepped in to intervene. One of the assailants, wearing a black T-shirt, drew a pistol and fired at Siddharth, striking him in the lower abdomen. After the bullet was fired, Siddharth collapsed to the ground from the impact. Moments later, with the help of his friends, he managed to stand up and was able to walk a short shooter and his accomplices fled the scene immediately after the shot was fired. Over 20 people, including several women, were present at the site when the incident occurred. The complainant, Akashdeep, confirmed that the man in the white shirt was him. When he talked about Siddharth's condition, he stated, 'he is stable now and will get discharged in four to five days.' Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Harsimran Bal confirmed the arrests, stating, 'The accused have been arrested with the illegal weapon used in the incident. Eight teams were formed under the supervision of Phase 11 SHO, inspector Aman and in charge Harminder Singh. Both accused were rounded up within 24 hours of the incident. The pistol used has been recovered and both are now in police remand. Our team will interrogate them thoroughly.' According to the complaint, an argument erupted between Akashdeep's group and the co-owners of the club after a minor altercation on the dance floor. The situation escalated and moved outside the club, where the fight turned violent.

Ludhiana: No headway in Maharashtra man's murder case
Failing to make a breakthrough in a Maharashtra-based devotee's murder a year ago, the police have released the pictures of some of the suspects wanted by the Jagraon police for allegedly poisoning him. The man was found dead during a religious event held in Jagraon in August 2024. However, the Jagraon City police station took five months to register an FIR, that too on the orders of Punjab and Haryana high court. On August 26, 2024, Gurusharanjeet Singh of Nagpur, Maharashtra, and his wife Kawaljeet Kaur had visited a religious site in Jagraon to pay obeisance. At the site, three unknown individuals offered them juice packets as prasad. Both drank the juice, with Gurusharanjeet Singh consuming the entire packet. Moments later, the couple fell unconscious. Kawaljeet Kaur was rushed to a government hospital and regained consciousness after treatment, but her husband was declared dead. Vande Bharat passenger allegedly assaulted in Jhansi after dispute with BJP MLA
A 50-year-old man has alleged that he was assaulted at Jhansi railway station in Uttar Pradesh by a group of men supposedly linked to Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Rajeev Singh Paricha following a dispute over seating arrangements on a train, even as the Babina MLA denied his involvement and alleged that he and his family were 'subjected to mental harassment'. (SOURCED) Police said both the passenger, identified as Raj Prakash and Paricha, have filed separate complaints over the incident which took place on Thursday night. 'The passenger who was attacked has lodged a complaint in Bhopal,' superintendent of police, Railways, Jhansi, Vipul Srivastava said. 'I have asked Inspector GRP Jhansi Yogendra Singh to collect CCTV footage from train and Jhansi railway station. A police team has left to retrieve footage from Bhopal.' Quoting the complaint filed by Paricha, police said that the MLA was travelling to Jhansi with his wife Kamli Singh and son Shreyansh Singh in coach E-2 of the Nizamuddin–Bhopal Vande Bharat Express. They boarded train from New Delhi. Paricha said that he was allotted seat 8, while his wife and son were given seats 50 and 51, respectively. The altercation reportedly began when the passengers occupying the nearby seats 49 and 52 were sitting with their legs outstretched. This prompted the MLA to ask the two passengers, including Raj Prakash, to change their seats, the complaint said. Paricha alleged that Raj Prakash used inappropriate language and threatened his gunner when he intervened. Meanwhile, Raj Prakash, in his complaint, alleged that following the argument a group of eight people entered the train and assaulted him. The passenger, who suffered a broken nose in the assault, further alleged that the assailants were linked to the legislator. Paricha denied any involvement, stating that he and his family had deboarded the train before the incident took place. 'Our journey was disrupted, and we were subjected to mental harassment,' he said. Based on the complaint filed by the legislator, FIR has been registered against Raj Prakash under Sections 115 (2) and 352 of BNS.
