A poll of 2,000 adults found 88 per cent will indulge in a time-killing challenge when on a road trip.
Spotting car brands and various license plates also proved popular.
Other games to feature in the top 20 include the Alphabet Game, when you have to think of a word in a certain category beginning with each letter and the classic Rock Paper Scissors.
Name That Tune, Would You Rather and even Truth or Dare are also popular.
It comes after Londoners playing 'Yellow Car' would have found themselves racking up the points, after images captured five new Renault 5 E-Tech Electric vehicles buzzing around the capital's most famous landmarks.
The fleet were all designed in the French carmaker's iconic yellow pop colourway, making them stand out from the crowd.
The swarm of five in-sync cars drove past London sights including The Mall and past Big Ben.
A spokesperson from the automotive brand, which also commissioned the research, said: "The nation will be taking to the roads this Bank Holiday weekend and I'm sure many will be playing at least one of these classic car games.
'While I-Spy might still be the most popular, Yellow Car is one that many will be familiar with.
'Trying to spot a brightly coloured car while on the road can keep adults and children alike entertained and can help make any car journey go that little bit quicker.
New Renault 4 is no longer a cheap, simple no frills runabout - it's now a funky family crossover and a capital B bargain
'So, having launched Renault 5 with the option of vibrant, fun colours, we wanted to play a real-life version of the Yellow Car game on the streets of London, so anyone driving past would have had a bumper load of cars to shout about.'
The study also revealed that for 67 per cent of those who play car games, the point doing so is simply to pass time and stave off boredom, but 43 per cent rely on them to lighten the mood.
And 16 per cent turn to them to reduce screen time or random scrolling on their phones.
It also emerged 63 per cent of adults claimed car games make them feel nostalgic for the car trips of their childhood.
UK car journeys were the most popular time to break out a game (53 per cent), followed by when going a day trip (41 per cent) and visiting friends and family (32 per cent).
But 21 per cent of adults also play them when driving with friends and 17 per cent do so on the exciting journey to the airport.
And nearly one in 10 (eight per cent) of the parents polled, via OnePoll, turn to them to keep kids entertained on the school run.

Neighbours ready to ‘go to war' over parking spaces as council chiefs plan new houses

PARKING PLIGHT Neighbours ready to 'go to war' over parking spaces as council chiefs plan new houses Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RESIDENTS living in a Scots street say a new housing development will spark parking wars among neighbours. Edinburgh Council has received plans for eight new build flats with parking provisions, a bike shelter, as well as a front and back garden in Wester Hailes from Prospect Housing. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Plans have been lodged for a new housing development but residents are up in arms 2 The flats will be built on the site of the car park that the locals already use However the plans have caused outrage amongst current residents because the flats will be built on the site of the car park they already use. Locals also fear that, as well as a shortage of parking spaces, the community's rat problem will worsen and there are added concerns the bus stop will be removed. Residents have lodged 22 objections to the city's planning department. The application says 20 parking spaces will be lost but nine new spaces will be added. However, that is little comfort to residents. Maria Clark, 56, fears the shortage of spaces could lead to violence. She told Edinburgh Live: 'The car park is full every night from 4pm. Take it away and I worry we wont be able to park outside. 'It could lead to fighting and resentment amongst neighbours. The plans show there are not enough parking provisions." 'We need our vehicles for our jobs. Our insurance won't cover us unless it is outside of our house and we don't want to pay for extra coverage during a cost of living crisis. 'The rat problem is already horrendous around here and when they start digging, it will get even worse. I've written in both times to object. 'My grandson is also asthmatic and I worry about his health with the dust and pollution. With big lorries coming into the area, I also worry about the young kids and animals. Bumbling 'arsonists' who try to set fire to a house accidentally set their getaway car ablaze as they try to escape 'We all fear the bus stop in front of the development will also have to be moved and that will impact the elderly and disabled. There are so many better areas to build locally than a car park we all rely on. 'I do not feel like we are being listened to.' Another worried resident said she is concerned about overcrowding. Se said: 'We are already having issues, it is rammed and a nightmare,' they said. 'We are all for affordable housing but the placement of this development isn't great. 'There are big fields opposite and the site of the closed old folks home. We are worried about the street overcrowding. 'It feels like they are just trying to squeeze folk in to solve the housing emergency.' Planning documents state: 'The structure will measure approximately 15 meters in height and the materials shall be comprised of facing brick, dark grey tiles, zinc roofs, zinc cladding and glazed coloured brick. The proposed building line will extend from the neighbouring residential building to the east, angling towards Clovenstone Road to the west. 'Public open space in the form of communal gardens have been designed to the rear of the building, while private gardens for the two ground floor flats will be provided at the front of the site. 'The application also includes boundary treatments and new landscaping to the west of the site. This will incorporate the development of the existing vehicle parking area, the introduction of a new tarmac surface, and the provision of secure bike stores for 20 bicycles.' Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Instagram user Katy Birkelbach showed her followers the switch up she made on her children's sandpit Credit: instagram Instagram user Katy Birkelbach amassed a whopping 15.3 million views for her DIY alternative to an at-home sandbox. She decided to substitue the sand to avoid her children trekking it through her home. And while she said her replacement is "so much better than sand", other parents were quick to point out a potential hazard. Katy showed her audience how she used corn kernels to fill the pit for her toddler son and baby daughter. She showed footage of the children playing in the corn, with her son even using his toy trucks to scoop up the kernels. Instagram users voiced their concerns over the "dangerous" move in the comments section. "I worry about them putting the corn up their nose or in their ears," wrote one parent. "Also the choking hazard possibility has me so stressed," added another viewer. "Huge chocking hazard! I've seen some really sad stories! Also attracts bees," pointed out a third person. "OMG, if the baby puts that in her mouth she's going to choke," agreed another follower. Mums issue stark warning about 'dark Peppa Pig' videos going viral on YouTube set out to target and terrify your kids "Bad bad idea, if the baby puts it in to the mouth she can choke. You must be more clever than this," said one parent. "Isn't that a major choking hazard? I prefer to take the sand over corn," commented another person. One follower shared an additional way the corn could prove hazardour for children. "In the Balkans that was considered a punishment, kneeling on corn, hurts like hell," they said. Other viewers pointed out additional issues with the unique play set-up. How to survive six weeks of school summer holidays IF you are struggling with the six week summer holidays, you've come to the right place... BATTLING BOREDOM: Despite hours of activities and playdates, if your kids are already complaining there's nothing to do, parenting expert Liat Hughes Joshi says: 'Don't feel you have to organise every second of the holidays. Kids benefit from boredom and learn to make their own fun. 'Boredom can trigger creative and imaginative play but you need to encourage kids to get used to not being told how to spend their time. 'Ride out the pleas of boredom. Counter it with comments such as, 'What do you think you could do?' and maybe have a list of 'I'm bored' activity ideas on the fridge.' SCREEN OVERLOAD: It's tempting during the holidays to rely on a digital babysitter but don't let them gawp their whole summer away in front of a screen. Liat says: 'It's unfair to expect older kids to power down but it's important to set some ground rules. 'Set family tech rules together. If you're often distracted by your phone, follow the rules too. Maybe tell the kids they aren't allowed any screen time until they've done set chores, some exercise, or a board game. 'Are there times when you'd like to ban screens completely? Perhaps during dinner or when they have friends over to visit. 'Tech is a battleground for parents, but you have to set boundaries. Stand firm and be prepared to be unpopular.' TOO MUCH TOGETHERNESS: You love your kids, but being with them 24/7 can be exhausting. Do not feel guilty if you need a bit of downtime. Liat says: 'If you're juggling work and household tasks as well as occupying the kids, it's normal to start feeling overwhelmed or jaded and in need of some peace. 'If you can't afford or don't want to send your kids to all-day camps, look for free kids' workshops so you can get on with jobs or have a break for a couple of hours. 'Seeking a spell of quiet every now and then doesn't make you a bad parent — in fact it will probably make you more positive and enthusiastic when you are with the kids.' SCHEDULING CONFLICT: Schedules can go out the window during holidays, but late nights and early mornings can mean tired and unhappy children. Dr Tamara Bugembe, paediatrician and founder of says: 'Children get grumpy, test boundaries and become challenging when routines are broken. 'Sticking to some kind of routine during the holidays is a good idea. 'We release hormones at different times of the day and when regular meal times and bed times are broken, it causes dips and peaks in mood. 'Holidays are about having fun but an early night once or twice a week will make everyone happier.' EXCESS ENERGY: Make sure kids get out in the fresh air to tire them out — and make them healthier and happier. Dr Bugembe says: 'Sunshine also tops up vital vitamin D levels which helps improve bone strength and energy levels in children. Our levels run low in winter so let the kids stock up in warmer weather. 'Letting them run around in shorts and a T-shirt is the best way to top up. Make sure they're wearing sun cream, get outside and have fun. 'Encourage them to try healthy habits such as cycling and walking. They'll hopefully get hooked and want to carry them on when the weather gets colder.' "I was just thinking the squirrels would go nutsss!" wrote one Instagram user. "This is cute, but the rodents it would attract," said another concerned person. And another viewer simply pointed out how the corn would limi the fun of a sandpit. "'I don't want to build sandcastles anyway,' said no kid ever," they wrote.
