New Statcounter AI data finds ChatGPT sends 79.8% of all chatbot referrals to websites
ChatGPT clear leader in all G20 countries bar China
New data emphasises Google AI "dilemma" in Search
SAN FRANCISCO and DUBLIN, June 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Statcounter the easy-to-use web analytics company has announced the launch of new research which measures the number of referrals from individual AI chatbots to websites. The data, updated daily by individual country and region, is free to access at Statcounter Global Stats.
"With the massive growth in AI chatbot usage, it is crucially important for website owners and marketers to know which chatbots are sending the most referrals to websites," commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, Statcounter. "We are already moving into a new era from SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)."
The new data finds that ChatGPT is by far the global leader in terms of referral market share at 79.8%, followed by Perplexity (11.8%); Microsoft Copilot (5.2%); Google Gemini (2%); DeepSeek; (0.8%) and Claude (0.5%).

Commenting on the fact that Google's chatbot is ranked fourth globally for referrals, Aodhan Cullen added: "Google now finds itself in the same dilemma as traditional on-premise software providers at the birth of cloud computing. Its cash cow, Search, is at risk from new AI technology, which ironically, it helped to create."
He added that reports that Apple may add AI search to Safari emphasises Google's challenge.
The Statcounter data finds that ChatGPT dominates referral market share in all G20 countries except China. DeepSeek leads with 89.3% in China.

Is TikTok getting banned? Trump says he'll 'probably' extend deadline again
President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he will "probably" extend the TikTok ban deadline yet again before its expiration on Thursday, June 19. "We probably have to get China approval. I think we'll get it," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Tuesday, June 17. "I think (Chinese) President Xi will ultimately approve it." TikTok, a short-form video app, went dark for about 12 hours in January when China-based ByteDance failed to divest the app's U.S. assets, as required by federal law. Since coming into office on Jan. 20, Trump has issued two executive orders to extend the ban's deadline. But so far, a deal has yet to be struck, and the next deadline is Thursday, June 19. When asked by reporters if he has the legal basis to extend the deadline again, Trump said, "Yes, I do." If ByteDance does not divest TikTok by Thursday, June 19, the platform could be banned in the U.S. again. However, Trump has repeatedly signaled he would extend the deadline if the sale isn't finalized in time. Under federal legislation that put the TikTok ban in place, the president can implement a 90-day extension on the deadline to sell. But Trump didn't take this route in January or April. Instead, he signed executive orders delaying the ban by 75 days. If Trump wishes to sign another executive order ahead of the June 19 deadline, he can. Former President Joe Biden signed federal legislation in 2024 that gave ByteDance until Jan. 19, 2025 to divest TikTok or face a ban in the U.S. Some politicians see TikTok as a national security threat, expressing concern that ByteDance may be sharing U.S. user data with the Chinese government. ByteDance has denied these claims, which remain unsubstantiated. However, ByteDance did not divest in time. In January, TikTok went dark for a little more than 12 hours in the U.S. after the app was effectively banned. U.S. internet hosting services made TikTok unavailable to access, and app stores removed the app for download. During the short-lived shutdown, Trump promised internet hosting services and app stores that they could restore TikTok and not face legal penalties. Under the federal legislation, companies could be fined $5,000 per user they help access TikTok. For companies like Google and Apple, this could mean a $5,000 fine for each user who downloads or updates TikTok. In a bold step toward making quantum computing accessible enough to solve everyday problems, the Canadian city of Lethbridge has launched a first-of-its-kind community-based Quantum Super Hub. This new facility is being hailed as the 'ChatGPT of quantum computing'. Similar to how ChatGPT made AI easy to use, the new hub brings the power of quantum computing and other high-powered tools like AI and GPUs within reach of local businesses, students, and researchers. "By anchoring Canada's first Super Hub at Tecconnect, we're giving local innovators the tools to solve global problems—from agri-tech to logistics—with computing power once thought to be years away," said Renae Barlow, vice president of Economic Development Lethbridge (EDL), a not-for-profit organization involved in the development of Quantum Super Hub,. The main highlight of the quantum super hub is that anyone can describe a problem in plain language, and the system automatically decides whether to solve it using quantum computing, AI, or traditional supercomputers. 'The whole value proposition for the super platform is that it leverages a combination of classical and quantum hardware. It uses Nvidia GPUs, it uses quantum parts, it uses gate-based quantum machines, it uses classical CPUs, and GPUs. It figures out how to best solve the problem using a combination of these architectures," said Muhammad Khan, CEO of SuperQ Quantum Computing, the company that developed the hub. The development is being seen as a major leap as quantum computers, while powerful, have traditionally been out of reach for most people and companies. This is because they require expensive lab setups, highly trained quantum scientists, and complex programming skills. What the Super Quantum Hub does differently is simplify the user experience while intelligently picking the right computing strategy—sometimes quantum, sometimes classical, often both. It's this combination that makes it powerful and accessible. On top of the tech, a formidable support system has been put in place to help users. According to the SuperQ team, local businesses can get help at every step—from identifying key problems to testing solutions and receiving training. I replaced my notes app with ChatGPT — here's how it upgraded my productivity
Like most people, I used to rely on my phone's built-in notes app for everything: grocery lists, lists for the kids, random reminders and half-finished ideas. This resulted in something that felt like a cluttered digital junk drawer filled with hundreds of notes. Many titled 'List,' 'Another list' or simply untiled and left to the default 'New list.' But when ChatGPT rolled out memory and the latest Projects upgrade, I decided to test a new approach and completely replaced my notes app with ChatGPT. The hope was that AI could help me stay more organized After a few weeks of testing, here's what I've learned and, how I now use ChatGPT to manage everything from errands to creative projects. The first thing I noticed: ChatGPT is great at capturing messy thoughts; no formatting or full sentences required. I can simply say: Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Instead of dozens of disconnected notes, ChatGPT stores everything in context, and remembers related details when I need them. The Projects feature is key. Instead of one giant 'Vacation' note, I now have actual projects where I can upload documents, add ideas and chat with ChatGPT to refine plans: Travel project: flight details, hotel info, sightseeing ideas Work project: article pitches, interview notes, outlines Meal planning: recipes to try, weekly grocery lists Since ChatGPT remembers previous conversations, I can jump back into any project and it picks up right where we left off; unlike my old notes app, which always felt disconnected. While ChatGPT doesn't yet sync with my calendar, it's surprisingly useful for soft reminders and planning my day. For example: ChatGPT will break the list down by priority and suggest when to tackle each task. I can even set a reminder within ChatGPT Tasks. Sometimes that gentle nudge is exactly what I need to stay focused. Here's what surprised me most: I actually take fewer notes now, but better ones. Quality over quantity, because instead of dumping every stray thought into a note, I now have interactive conversations with ChatGPT that help clarify what I really need. It's a smarter, more thoughtful way to process information, and much easier to search later. Besides staying more organized, it's also helped me check off more on each of my lists. I've started and completed more projects now that they are organized efficiently. Can ChatGPT fully replace my notes app? For quick reminders, brainstorming and project planning — absolutely. For calendar events and time-sensitive alerts? Not quite yet. But for the first time in years, I feel far more organized, and my thoughts feel less chaotic. I'm spending more time acting on ideas instead of digging through random lists, which feels like a big win.
