And there have been a fair few names thrown into the mix in recent months.
Now, another star has got tongues wagging after his recent interview on BBC Radio 2 on Tuesday morning.
This star in particular has already been brought up into conversation when it comes to who the next Bond could be, but even more so after he swerved a question.
It's none other than Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey, who was talking to Scott Mills on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show.
Jonathan joined Scott to celebrate the release of the Jurassic World Rebirth film, which stars the actor.
And they ended up discussing rumours that Jonathan is a contender to be the next James Bond:
Scott said to the star: 'It's an obvious question, but I'm going to be honest with you, it's the one people are asking the most, so I'm going to ask it. Do you, or would you be, James Bond?'
Jonathan playfully replied with: 'Scott, how dare you!' to which Scott clarified: 'It's not me, it's the listeners and there are thousands.'
The actor managed to somehow sidestep the question, responding: 'I mean, that's an amazingly flattering ask. I could imagine you as James Bond, Scott.'

And Scott was quick to pick up on the change of direction, saying: 'Well, swerved, because that's not true. But, I mean, we know you could do it, but you'd want to do it?'
Jonathan seemed to be more open to replying, as he said: 'I don't...I am not sure... I don't know. I really, honestly, I mean... it would be hard to say no, but I know that it's going to be exciting whatever they do.'
Leaving Scott to reply: 'Thank you for answering that, because it was the most popular question. And I'll be honest, I almost ran away from you a bit like you did with Steven Spielberg, before I asked, but I'm glad I did. Thank you very much.'
It seems many actors are in the running for the career making role.

The first ever James Bond film was in 1962, and this is who has played the lead role over the years: Sean Connery - The late star was the first ever actor to play Bond, and reprised the role for seven movies.
George Lazenby - The star only played Bond once, but was the youngest actor to ever play the spy.
Roger Moore - The late movie star spent 12 years making seven films in the famous franchise.
Timothy Dalton - The smooth actor took over from Roger Moore and appeared in The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill.
Pierce Brosnan - The handsome star played Bond for four movies from 1995 to 2002.
Daniel Craig - The British star was the first blonde James Bond and the sixth actor to win the role in 2005.
Theo James' name was thrown into the hat after he wowed fans in Netflix's The Gentlemen last year.
His performance in the Guy Ritchie series made him an ideal candidate for the next actor to fill the shoes of 007.
Other names still in the running include Aaron Taylor-Johnson after it was revealed back in 2022 that the Brit had already "filmed a top-secret scene" at Pinewood Studios, Berkshire.
Famed for the Kick-Ass movie series and the Marvel movie Avengers: Age of Ultron, Aaron shot to fame playing John Lennon in Nowhere Boy.
The Sun previously exclusively revealed how Bond bosses had offered the job to Aaron.
And with his quintessential Englishman good looks, James Norton has been a hot contender for the next Bond for many years.
The chiselled star is known for playing the lead role of Sidney Chambers in Grantchester, and also evil Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley.Also in the running is Jack Lowden, known for BBC gangster drama The Gold and the TV hit Slow Horses.

It's not a vintage Aston Martin due to sell but a small French hatchback used in the iconic For Your Eyes Only chase scene. 8 8 The tiny Citroen 2CV is currently available for purchase after it was rescued from a French scrapyard. Six of the little motors were destroyed during the filming of the chase scene. This is the only one of the six to ever be offered up for sale at auction. A month long online bidding war has been started for the little car with bids already reaching $120,000 or £89,000. It's hoped that the motor will fetch a price of about $500,000 or £370,000 by the time bidding closes on July 17. The iconic chase scene featuring the little 2CV sees Moore jump into the passenger seat of Melina Havelock's (Carole Bouquet) Citroen to escape the gun fire of villain Hector Gonzalez's goons. In the ensuing chaos of the chase the 2CV ends up flipping onto its roof to avoid a bus. It's then flipped back onto four wheels by Bond and some helpful locals before fleeing once again. The small 2CV is eventually rolled down a hill by one of the pursuing Peugeot's, ending up partially crushed before being reversed off towards a sharp turn by 007. In the iconic chase scene Bond takes the tiny Citroen off-road through olive groves and says the famous line: "I love a drive in the country, don't you?" The 2CV up for auction is one of only three to avoid complete destruction. All three surviving 2CVs received a few dents and scrapes with the model up for auction boasting a missing headlight and a fair few scratches in the paintwork. The models used for filming were fitted with more powerful engines not available in standard 2CVs. Standard 2CVs were powered by a 602cc flat-twin engine mustering around 33bhp. 8 The six Bond vehicles used in filming featured a larger 1.1-litre engine that was lifted from the Citroën GS. No roll cage was fitted to the one up for auction as it was used specifically for driving shots with Moore and Bouquet. Moore gave a Top Gear interview stating the little French hatchback was his favourite Bond car writing later in his memoir about the fun he had driving the small motor. The three surviving motors were split up after filming with one sold off to a UK collector. One was taken by Citroen for the firm's private collection and the third, which is now up for auction, was sent to a recycling facility in Paris. The famous little car was rescued from the scrapyard and sold to its current owner in 2004. It has been fitted with replacement yellow doors and boot lid, yellow roof, and seats. The car is being sold for display purposes only and is not considered to be roadworthy. He's the same! He's the same! Noel Edmonds is the same! Even if he wasn't quite your cup of tea back in the day, I promise you'll be happy to see him. Fixed points in a universe changing unstoppably for the worse have that effect on you. Edmonds bestrode the world of 80s and 90s light entertainment like a Tiggerish colossus, presenting everything from Top of the Pops to Multi-Coloured Swap Shop to Telly Addicts – oh, how well I remember watching the latter as a woman proposed to her boyfriend and how beautifully Noel covered the deafening silence where the horrified man's acceptance was supposed to go – to Noel's House Party (let us hope Mr Blobby is ageing as well as his mentor), and more, including his last big hit Deal Or No Deal. He became a bit of a laughing stock when he tried to share with the world his discovery, via his reflexologist, of cosmic ordering (an iteration of positive thinking woowoo) but never – I think at this point uniquely among his peers – coming a vilely scandalous cropper at any stage. He was last seen on our screens being voted off 2018's I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here. After that, he used some of the money restored to him after he won a huge case against bankers who had deliberately bankrupted his company group to buy an 800-acre estate in New Zealand and relocate there with his wife ('my earth angel') Liz. Noel Edmonds' Kiwi Adventure marks his return to television and chronicles their life running what he hopes will become a popular retreat, complete with vineyard, watering hole the Bugger Inn, spectacularly good views and spectacularly bad puns. 'I am rocking!' he says, and is eager to share with us the secrets of his youthful mien; 'tranquil power' workouts in the gym, crystal healing (vibrations at 5-8Hz, obviously, or it doesn't work), structural water (post-electromagnetised, in case you are not au fait), twice weekly stints in a hyperbaric chamber, and a big statue in the garden that watches over him. 'All we are is body energy systems,' he … is 'explains' the word? 'They touch everything around us. Which is how you move into the bigger matrix, the universal energy system.' You know what? I loved Noel's House Party. And nothing has ever made me cry happier tears than Noel's Christmas Presents, perfectly-pitched every year on the side of 'warm glow' rather than 'mawkish sentiment'. He's earned this. He remains unassailably himself – emotional, childlike, open (the curiosity/credulousness that lets you embrace cosmic ordering is also what allows you to connect with people and find something interesting about them all), confident and professional. The last isn't an add-on but a part of what made him great. As he puts it at one point, he worked hard and took it seriously. He has an old-school respect for his audience and isn't about to let them down. To watch him now is to be reminded how much contempt there is threaded through our entertainment, our culture now and what we have been reconditioned to accept as the norm. He also remains unafraid of the long march towards a terrible joke, as attested by the scene in which he lowers himself into a cold plunge bath. 'It should have been three degrees! Because when will I see them – Mr Happy and the twins! – again?' If you were anything other than a wholly committed hater of the man before, you will follow him just as willingly as you did decades ago, this time through bad Kiwi weather instead of ill-fated proposals, money troubles instead of swaps, and chaos caused by tabloids instead of Mr Blobby (though we are promised a visit from the latter). When the estate reopens for the season, a local customer is asked for his opinion on the new landlord. 'Seems like a good bugger,' he replies. So he does, so he does. Noel Edmonds' Kiwi Adventure airs on ITV1 on 20 June and ITVX.
