Middle East plunging into abyss of instability and war, says Kremlin
St Petersburg, June 20 (UNI) The Middle East region is now plunging into the abyss of instability and war, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.
"First of all, the countries of the region (West Asia/Middle East) should set a red line, because this region is now plunging into the abyss of instability and war," Peskov told reporters on the sidelines of the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), reports Daily Observer.
The aggravation of the situation in the Middle East is fraught with the expansion of geography and involvement of new participants, Peskov said.
"We are concerned. You know, we have repeatedly said that President Vladmir Putin has the potential to offer mediation terms if necessary. No one imposes them. It is just that the relations we have with Iran, Israel, and other states and regions allow us to provide such services, if necessary. It is difficult to say whether they will be in demand," Peskov said.
While Moscow has been supporting Iran in the conflict, it has maintained strong back-channel talks with Jerusalem, in the hopes of cooling down tensions. Both countries have channels to facilitate dialogue, said Peskov.
'So far we see Israel's desire is to continue fighting, at least that is how they officially declare these intentions," Peskov said.
Israel has made it clear that it won't back down from the conflict, which it said is aimed at the complete destruction of Iran's nuclear infrastructure.
There is hope and opportunity for diplomatic efforts for the situation in the Middle East, Peskov added.
Iran has also refused to back down, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khomeini instructing the Armed Forces to intensify their attacks on Israel, in order to 'punish the Zionist state.'

Trump threatens more strikes on Iran if peace does not come quickly
Washington, June 22 (UNI) U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Iran will face more military strikes if peace does not come quickly. Addressing the nation on Saturday evening, Trump said that Iran's key nuclear facilities had been "completely and totally obliterated," and that future attacks will be "far greater and a lot easier." "If peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed and skill. Most of them can be taken out in a matter of minutes," he said. "Our objective was the destruction of Iran's nuclear capacity," he said, calling the bombing a "spectacular" success. Trump said that he decided a long time ago not to let Iran gain a nuclear weapon and that without peace, there will be "tragedy" for Iran that will far exceed what's taken place. Top U.S. military leaders will hold a news conference at 8:00 am (1200 GMT) Sunday morning, he said. Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Saturday that U.S. strikes on Iran's nuclear sites are "a dangerous escalation" and "a direct threat to international peace and security." "I am gravely alarmed by the use of force by the United States against Iran today. This is a dangerous escalation in a region already on the edge -- and a direct threat to international peace and security," said Guterres in a statement. There is a growing risk that this conflict could rapidly get out of control -- with catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region and the world, he said. Guterres called on UN member states to uphold their obligations under the UN Charter and other rules of international law. "At this perilous hour, it is critical to avoid a spiral of chaos. There is no military solution. The only path forward is diplomacy. The only hope is peace," he said. UNI/XINHUA BM

U.S. attacked 3 Iranian nuclear sites: Trump
Washington, June 22 (UNI) U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the United States has completed attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran, including "Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan." "All planes are now outside of Iran airspace. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow," he said on the social platform Truth Social on Saturday. Tehran must agree to "end this war," Trump wrote on Truth Social after the strikes. Iran's state-run IRNA news agency acknowledged attacks on the country's nuclear facilities. An Iranian state television commentator said that "you started it and we will end it," according to a CNN report. Trump isn't planning additional U.S. strikes on Iran and wants to "propel Tehran back to negotiations," said CNN. CBS News said that the United States reached out to Iran diplomatically Saturday to say the strikes are all the U.S. plans and that regime change efforts are not planned. Trump's decision to intervene directly in support of Israel's attempt to dismantle Iran's nuclear program marks a historic escalation in the Middle East, local media said. The intervention may provoke retaliation from Tehran against U.S. troops and military installations across the region, local media reported. The U.S. air raids on Iran came on the ninth day after Israel launched attacks on Iran on June 13. Trump announced on Thursday that he would make a decision "in the next two weeks" to give Iran a final chance to negotiate.

"Brutal Act That Contravenes International Law": Iran Confirms US Strikes
Tehran: Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation confirmed attacks that took place on three of its nuclear sites early on Sunday and said it would not allow the development of its "national industry" -- an apparent reference to the country's nuclear development -- to be stopped. Tehran's agency also said the attacks on its nuclear sites violate international law, without clarifying the extent of the damage from the US strikes that President Donald Trump announced earlier. The US military earlier had carried out strikes on Iran's Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz atomic sites. "The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran assures the great Iranian nation that despite the evil conspiracies of its enemies, with the efforts of thousands of its revolutionary and motivated scientists and experts, it will not allow the development of this national industry, which is the result of the blood of nuclear martyrs, to be stopped," it said in its statement. Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has also warned his country's "response to the continued aggression of the Zionist regime will be more devastating" during a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, according to the official IRNA news agency. Iranian authorities said there was "no danger" to residents in the city of Qom, south of Tehran, following the US attack on a nearby mountain-buried nuclear enrichment site. "There is no danger to the people of Qom and the surrounding area" around the Fordo nuclear enrichment site, said the province's crisis management department in a statement, according to the state media. US Intervention In The Israel-Iran Conflict Trump said the US military carried out a "very successful attack" on three Iranian nuclear sites, including the underground uranium enrichment facility at Fordo. "We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. "A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site," Fordo, he said, adding that the planes were safely out of Iranian airspace and on the way home. The President said that after the strikes, Iran "must now agree to end this war", insisting that under no circumstances should Iran possess a nuclear weapon.
