Aberdeen may be Celtic punchbags but Parkhead star wary they'll be no pushovers at Hampden
The Hoops midfielder is not going to get complacent against the Reds even if they have been put to the sword this season
Luke McCowan insists Celtic are not banking on a Hampden stroll in the sun against Aberdeen.
The Hoops have smashed an incredible 19 goals past the Pittodrie men in five games this season including Wednesday's 5-1 Granite City gubbing.
Brendan Rodgers' side – who are sweating on the fitness of Reo Hatate for the showpiece – are massive favourites to inflict more punishment and complete the Treble.
But McCowan insisted NO ONE in the Parkhead dressing room will be expecting a Scottish Cup Final walkover.
He said: 'No, it never will be. As you've probably saw at the end there, there's probably a wee bit of bite in the game right at the 90th minute because they know the Cup Final's coming as well.
"So, listen, it's a Cup Final. It's anybody's game. You just need to show up and I'm sure we'll have that performance ready and we need to push each other until then to make sure that our mentality is right going into it.
'It wasn't easy, I would say. You still have to fight and you still have to battle away. I think at times we were probably just ruthless in our play.
'I thought our play was magnificent at times. They went man-for-man press. We were able to go from one side and switch to the other and dominate by doing that.
'As I said, the goals come, the more open the game becomes and it all worked out.'
Celtic have scorched over the finishing line in the Premiership and are heading to Hampden at full throttle.
McCowan wants another big statement performance on Trophy Day against St Mirren this weekend to take into the Final.
He said: 'That's the plan. Even after you win the league, it's about maintaining the focus and keeping the mentality.
'If that mentality slips, it's so hard to get it back. It's so hard to find that bite in games when you don't create it with your mentality.
'So, no, we just need to keep that again come Saturday, push again and have a good day on Saturday and then be in the best place come the Cup Final.'
McCowan was a star turn at Pittodrie with a goal and two assists in the five goal rout to fire himself into the frame for the Final.
Midfielder Hatate is being assessed by club docs after he limped off late in the Pittodrie clash following a heavy collision with Dons forward Papa Gueye.
McCowan took a hefty knock as well but he insisted he's ready if called upon for the end-of-season showpiece.
The former Dundee man – who has notched seven goals this term for Celts – said: 'I took a few sore ones, but it's the joys of playing I guess. I've not felt that for a wee while now, so it feels good to get the knocks back.
'I don't know. You can't really think about it. As I said, the boys that have been starting have been doing absolutely incredible.
'It's up to boys that aren't starting to push them in training to try and get in that spot, but also to fight for your way to becoming on within the game and impacting it then.
'If you just keep doing that and keeping your attitude right, then you're always in with a chance.
'I've just got to keep myself composed. If I'm not playing, as I said, I've got to be charging to get on and making impacts.'

European side looking to sign former Man City captain Ilkay Gundogan - just one year after the midfielder made surprise return to the Etihad
Galatasaray are hopeful of landing Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City this summer. Gundogan triggered a one-year extension to his contract at the Etihad Stadium after surpassing a set percentage of minutes for Pep Guardiola 's side over the course of a one-year deal. But there remains interest from the Turkish champions, who view the 34-year-old as ideal to strengthen their midfield area and have already signed one of Gundogan's former team-mates in Leroy Sane. Gundogan left City in the weeks after sealing an historic Treble in 2023, joining Barcelona, only to make a return 12 months later. The Germany international, who has Turkish roots, had been expected to be used as an impact player but ended up registering 50 appearances as injuries hit. Gundogan featured in City's 2-0 win over Wydad AC in the Club World Cup and recently revealed the toll that last season had taken on him. In the post on LinkedIn, the veteran appeared to talk up the prospect of seeing out the final year of his deal. 'I still feel more than connected to City,' he said. 'It still feels like family, we still are a family in the dressing room, Manchester feels like home – this is not a phrase, it's coming from my heart. For me, my wife and my kids. 'For me City is the most professional football club in Europe. That is why, on the one hand, I'm still asking myself so often how we got into this difficult situation this season. 'On the other hand, however, this still gives me confidence that sooner or later we will be back at the very best level, because I know how hard everyone is working – not just our manager, not just my team-mates – everyone at this club. 'And during the last months we already showed that we are back on the right track. I still know how privileged I have been during nearly my whole career having been part of the winning side that often. Maybe that's also the reason why this season felt so challenging.' And despite coming towards the end of his career, Gundogan insisted that experienced heads still have a role to play at the highest level. 'There seems to be a trend at the moment in football where people are saying this player is too old or another one cannot run anymore, but we always have had this in football,' he said. 'You need experienced players on the pitch. I know that when I was 18 or 19, I was looking up to those experienced players. Just by watching what they did – and how they did it – I learnt. It wasn't always necessary for them to say anything.'

'Cup win is massive boost, but Dons must find momentum'
Former striker Lee Miller believes Aberdeen's Scottish Cup win will have given all at Pittodrie "a massive boost" but now they must build "momentum" from Thelin's side shocked Celtic to lift their first Scottish Cup in 35 years and secured a spot in the Europa League play-off round in the process."It's been a long time coming, a Scottish cup up there," ex-Dons forward Miller said."I think they can only take positives out of that, having beaten a really good Celtic team that did really well through the season."I think they need to come off the back of that and have the momentum to now kick on in the new season."The fixtures for the new Scottish Premiership season were announced earlier today and Miller added it will be difficult for the Pittodrie side to balance domestic football and European adventures."I think it's going to be tough for Aberdeen, but I think we will eventually - as a nation, as clubs in our country - get better at it," he said."The whole journey around being in Europe, whether it's different weeks leading up to it, different training days, we need to get better at adjusting to being in Europe because it has taken its toll over our teams over the past few seasons."We've got so many sports scientists and people that look into that, but as players, I think you want to play in games of that stature."

Man jailed for throwing glass bottle at Celtic goalkeeper during Old Firm match
A man who chucked a bottle at Celtic goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo during a derby match with Rangers has been jailed for eight months. Andrew Watt, 34, launched the missile at the Finnish international at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2025. Watt initially threw a cigarette at Mr Sinisalo after Celtic scored their equaliser through striker Adam Idah. He then picked up a half bottle of Buckfast and hurled it at the goalkeeper who celebrated the goal in front of Rangers fans. The bottle was later handed to police officers by a Rangers substitute. Watt was identified the following day on CCTV due to his 'distinctive white teeth'. Watt pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr Sinisalo. Sheriff Mark McGuire told Watt, of Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, that his actions were not of a 'fan' but a 'vicious drunken hooligan.' The sheriff added: 'Your motive was victim blaming. 'You came to throw a bottle after he celebrated his team scoring an equaliser. 'That is his job – you victim was doing his job – the man was at his work. 'In what possible world could you or anyone else think it is acceptable to throw a bottle at someone at his work? 'Had the bottle hit him, the consequences could have been catastrophic, career ending or worse. 'In a febrile atmosphere in a stadium which holds over 50,000 people, your actions could have sparked a riot. 'It was not just an assault on Mr Sinisalo – what you did could have endangered everyone man, woman and child that afternoon. 'In all the circumstances, to punish you and deter others from acting like you did and to protect the public, I am satisfied there is no alternative to a custodial sentence.' Watt was also banned from all football matches for a period of six-and-a-half years. The court heard that after Adam Idah scored, there was a VAR check on the goal to see if it would be allowed. After a two to three minute stoppage, the referee awarded the equalising goal to Celtic. Prosecutor Leo McGinn said: 'At that point, Mr Sinisalo turned back to his own goal towards the Rangers fans and pumped his fists. 'This sparked an angry reaction from the Rangers fans behind the goal and a half bottle of Buckfast was thrown in his direction. 'The bottle did not strike him but landed on the field of play.' The bottle was handed over to police officers by a Rangers substitute but the perpetrator was unknown at the time. A CCTV investigation was carried out by police the next day which identified Watt as being responsible. Mr McGinn added: 'He was seen to throw a lit cigarette in Mr Sinisalo's direction which had not been spotted by officers. 'Watt could be identified by his build and distinctive white teeth.' Watt later handed himself into police officers after he was aware that they were looking for him. Kevin Corr, defending, told the sentencing that Mr Sinisalo was 'not gloating' before the assault took place. The lawyer added: 'The stadium was tense at the time while the decision was being awarded. 'My client had been consuming alcohol on the morning off the game and continued drinking during the match. 'It was not a full half bottle of Buckfast as it was in the second half of the match. 'He knows that this is the behaviour of someone in their teens rather than someone in his mid-thirties – there is no attempt to minimise or justify what happened.' The hearing was told that Watt has 21 previous convictions, which include two football-related matters from 2013 and 2015 – the latter of which saw him jailed for ten months and handed a three-year football ban.
