Russia, US refused to take vlogger Zdorovetskiy —DILG Sec. Remulla

GMA Network01-06-2025

Detained Russian vlogger Vitaly Zdorovetskiy will not be deported from the Philippines as Russia and the United States refused to accept him, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Sunday.
'Ang problema kasi namin, ang Russia, hindi siya tinatanggap, ang US naman, green card holder siya, hindi rin siya tinatanggap, so hindi namin alam kung saan siya papauwiin eh,' Remulla said in a statement.
(Our problem is that Russia is not accepting him, neither does the US where he is a green card holder. So we don't know where to send him.)
Zdorovetskiy was nabbed by Philippine authorities in April for engaging in a series of law-breaking stunts, including videoing himself harassing Filipinos.
He will be facing trial next week for three counts of unjust vexation, with a possible imprisonment of three months to one year.
'We will service his sentence, sinigurado ko po 'yun (I assure you that he will serve his sentence),' Remulla said.
Zdorovetskiy has asked Remulla to drop the charges against him, citing mental health concerns.
However, Remulla said Zdorovetskiy's actions should never go unpunished. —KG, GMA Integrated News

SOJ Remulla: We haven't given up on case of missing sabungeros

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Monday assured families of the missing sabungeros that the government continues to investigate their case. 'Hindi kami nag gi-give up. We have not given up on anything or anybody. Ganon lang talaga, mabagal minsan ang kaso. Ito po ay proseso, kinakailangan po na may ebidensya na makakalap at ginagawa ho namin ang lahat,' Remulla said in an ambush interview. (We are not giving up. We have not given up on anything or anybody. It's just that sometimes cases move slowly. This is a process, and evidence needs to be gathered, and we are doing everything we can.) Remulla issued the remark when asked about the sentiment of the families that they feel as if the government has abandoned them due to the lack of progress in the cases. Meanwhile, the DOJ chief said authorities are currently processing the information provided by 'Alyas Totoy.' Totoy claimed that the missing sabungeros were thrown into Taal Lake. He also claimed that the abduction and killings were linked to the owner of the cockpit and online sabong operations. Remulla said he has talked with Totoy regarding his possible enrollment into the Witness Protection Program. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Sara Duterte on Pride Month 2025: ‘Safeguard LGBT rights'

Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday called on the nation to protect the most vulnerable, including members of the LGBTQ+ community, as the country celebrates this year's Pride Month. Duterte, who previously said she is a member of the LGBT community, highlighted the courage of the members to live truthfully, saying that it challenges the society 'to embrace honesty, authenticity, and inclusion in all that we do.' 'To all Filipinos—our democratic principles demand that we protect our most vulnerable. When we safeguard LGBT rights, we reinforce the foundations upon which all our freedoms rest,' the Vice President said in a video message. She also said that she acknowledges the burdens that many LGBTQ+ members carry, may it be workplace discrimination, access to equitable healthcare, or mental health problems. 'Pride reminds us that our shared humanity has the power to heal these wounds. It stands as living proof that our diversity is not a weakness to overcome, but a wellspring of resilience and creativity,' Duterte added. She also expressed hope that the Philippines will grow to be a country 'where diversity is recognized not as incidental, but essential to our national character.' 'Where human dignity needs no justification, where the courage to face adversity is honored as the highest expression of Filipino resilience,' she said. In 2023, Duterte said she would support legislation that would protect the partnership between members of the LGBTQ+ community. She, however, clarified that she was not particularly pertaining to same-sex marriage, saying she wants the protection of such partnerships under the law. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
