PMK will be part of a coalition government in 2026, we should also rule: Anbumani Ramadoss
CHENNAI: Even as the war over coalition government in 2026 is on between the supporters of the AIADMK and the BJP on social media, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday said the state will see a coalition government after the 2026 Assembly elections and his party will be part of it.
'In 2026, there will be a coalition government in which the PMK will be a partner. The PMK is not here to make any party the ruling party in Tamil Nadu. We should also rule. Only when we are a part (in that government), will we be able to establish social justice,' Anbumani said while addressing the general council meeting of the party's undivided Tiruvallur district unit.
In this regard, he recalled that in 2004 his party was a partner in the UPA-I government at the centre, and it was the PMK that made the demand to implement 27% reservation for OBCs in education in central government educational institutions a part of the Common Minimum Programme.
Anbumani said when the promise was not implemented two years after the formation of the government by the UPA, the PMK founder (S Ramadoss) said that the party may walk out of the alliance if the promise was not honoured. Only then was the assurance fulfilled by the UPA.
Later, addressing a similar meeting in Chengalpattu district, Anbumani said, 'Why am I underscoring coalition government? Despite the two parties ruling (DMK and AIADMK), social justice could not be established in the state, and we can only do so when we are part of the government.'
Anbumani also attacked the DMK government on various counts. While charging that law and order has been deteriorating in the state, he said there is no safety for women in Tamil Nadu.

AIADMK plays BJP's tune, calls DMK ‘divisive' over Keezhadi issue
CHENNAI: Signalling the aligning of the AIADMK with its recently reunited ally – the BJP – on the ongoing issue of alleged delay in publishing Keezhadi's excavation report by the Archaeological Survey of India, K Pandiarajan, who was the minister for archaeology in the previous AIADMK regime, on Friday said that archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna should respond to the questions raised by the ASI regarding his report. Implying that the questions raised by the ASI had credibility, Pandiarajan, who is at present AIADMK's deputy propaganda secretary, told the media that Ramakrishna's report said the antiquity of Tamil civilisation might date from the 5th century CE to the 5th century BCE. 'In other words, he suggests it could be any year within that span of thousand years. That is what he calls a discovery. Will anyone accept such a claim?' Pandiarajan asked. He further questioned the reason for the delay of many years in submitting the report by Ramakrishna, who carried out the first two phases of excavations in Keezhadi before he was suddenly transferred by the ASI to Assam in 2017. Since the controversy broke out in the end of May, the principal opposition party of Tamil Nadu had largely remained silent on the issue, while the ruling DMK and its allies have been vehemently attacking the BJP for trying to suppress the antiquity of Tamil civilisation.

As Andhra Pradesh bans TN mangoes, traders shut shops in support of farmers
VELLORE: Over 100 shops in the Bharatharami area of Vellore district downed shutters on Friday in solidarity with the mango farmers, who have been reeling under losses following a ban imposed by the Chittoor district administration in Andhra Pradesh on allowing Totapuri mangoes from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to enter AP. However, when asked about the state's response to the traders' strike and the mounting distress among farmers, Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan offered a terse response stating that the Tamil Nadu government will take action, without elaborating further. He made the remark while addressing the press following the inauguration of a newly-built Government Arts and Science College at KV Kuppam in Vellore. The college was virtually inaugurated by Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday. Speaking at the event, Duraimurugan said, 'The people of this constituency have been demanding a college for a long time, and today the chief minister has fulfilled it.' A request has also been made for a 100-bed hospital to be set up in the area, which would be taken up with the chief minister, he added. However, the function was briefly disrupted when KV Kuppam MLA and AIADMK ally Poovai Jaganmoorthy rushed to the stage before the minister finished his speech. After Duraimurugan's address, Jaganmoorthy insisted on speaking and asserted that he had promised to establish the college and was actively pushing for a hospital. 'As MLA of this constituency, I will continue to press the state government for additional concessions,' he said.
