Musiala fit to train as Bayern begin preparations for Benfica

Jamal Musiala was fit to train on Sunday as Bayern Munich began preparations for their final group match at the Club World Cup against Benfica.
The playmaker came off during Friday's 2-1 win over Boca Juniors with a calf problem, but appears to have shook off the issue.

The first of two training sessions before Tuesday's match against Benfica in Charlotte was closed to the media. However, the record German champions confirmed Musiala's participation in Orlando.
Coach Vincent Kompany is likely to exercise caution with Musiala, who has only just returned from a hamstring injury. Bayern are already through to the last 16, with the game against the Portuguese deciding who tops Group C.
Musiala scored a hat-trick as a substitute in the opening 10-0 win over Auckland City.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Scuffling catcher Francisco Alvarez was demoted to the minors by the New York Mets on Sunday. The team optioned Alvarez to Triple-A Syracuse and recalled Hayden Senger from its top farm club before Sunday night's series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies. Senger will back up Luis Torrens, who replaces Alvarez as New York's primary catcher. Alvarez was activated April 25 after beginning the season on the injured list with a hamate fracture in his left hand, and he missed two games this month while on the paternity list. The 23-year-old Alvarez, once rated baseball's best minor league prospect, had 25 homers and 63 RBIs with a .721 OPS as a rookie in 2023. Hoffenheim take interest in Japanese defender Koki Machida
Kicker reports that TSG 1899 Hoffenheim are attempting to bring Japanese centre-back Koki Machida to the Bundesliga. The 17-times-capped Samurai international currently plies his trade for Belgian Pro League champions Union Saint-Gilloise. Negotiations for a purchase of the €11m-valued professional are ongoing. Hoffenheim continue to desperately find themselves in need of a defensive revamp following an awful season in which they conceded 68 league goals. Some help has already arrived in the form of versatile Brazilian defender Bernardo, who joined on a free transfer from Bochum.
