State seeks details on ₹1,500 Cr TDR approved by former Pune civic chief
The Maharashtra urban development department (UDD) has sought information from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) over the issuance of transfer of development rights (TDR) worth nearly ₹1,500 crore, sanctioned by former municipal commissioner Rajendra Bhosale just before his retirement on May 31.
A senior official said the UDD department has asked PMC to submit records and explanations about the approvals, which have sparked widespread criticism from citizens, activists, and political leaders.
According to records published by PMC, Bhosale approved TDR within days before stepping down from office, raising eyebrows over the timing and the beneficiaries. Seven private builders had reportedly submitted proposals to the civic body seeking additional floor space index (FSI) by using the TDRs in question.
'This appears to be an attempt to benefit a few developers in a hurry. We had already raised concerns about the sudden spurt in TDR issuance, and now they are lining up for FSI clearances,' said BJP leader Ujwal Keskar. He said the UDD secretary had personally contacted the municipal commissioner's office for a detailed explanation.
The TDR mechanism is intended to compensate landowners whose properties are reserved for public amenities by allowing them development rights that can be sold or used elsewhere. However, critics argue that the process under Bhosale lacked transparency and could lead to undue benefit to certain builders.
Civic activists have questioned whether due diligence was followed in approving the TDRs, and why such a large quantum was cleared so close to the end of the commissioner's tenure. Allegations include lack of proper scrutiny, selective approvals, and attempts to push through the proposals without public consultation. 'Former municipal commissioner Rajendra Bhosale single-handedly opened a ₹1,500 crore TDR market under his authority. He sidelined the very existence of the 'City Improvement Committee',' said Vijay Kumbhar, RTI activist.
Bhosale was unavailable for comments.
The state government's intervention is likely to result in a formal review. According to PMC sources, documentation related to TDR approvals is being compiled for submission to UDD.
The controversy comes at a time when Pune is already facing scrutiny over the misuse of development tools like TDR and premium FSI, which many claim have led to unplanned growth and burdened civic infrastructure.

After Decades of Delay, 320 Model Mill Workers' Families to Finally Get Permanent Homes
1 2 3 Nagpur: Bringing an end to a decades-long struggle, 320 families residing in the historic Model Mill workers' colony in Ganeshpeth are finally set to receive ownership of permanent homes, thanks to years of persistent follow-up by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and support from the state govt. The workers' settlement, one of Vidarbha's only mill colonies, has been home to generations of families since the mill's inception. Though efforts for its redevelopment began years ago, the project repeatedly stalled, most significantly during 2007–2012, when the then state govt reduced the Floor Space Index (FSI), shrinking redevelopment scope. Gadkari, along with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and former Mayor Archana Dehankar, relentlessly pursued the issue to secure increased FSI and govt clearance. Following submission of a fresh proposal by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), a special govt notification was issued between 2022 and 2024, approving redevelopment on one acre of the 3.16-acre land parcel. Construction for 320 families was sanctioned along with the required FSI enhancement. Recently, the appointed contractor received map approval, setting the stage for the project to begin. "We must get a written commitment from the contractor to finish construction within 22 months. A formal agreement should be signed," Gadkari advised workers' representatives during their meeting to express gratitude. Former Mayor Dehankar was also lauded by the colony's representatives for her two-decade-long support. BJP city president Dayashankar Tiwari, along with local leaders Prithviraj Shambharkar, Mohan Banaith, Deepak Banaith, Keshav Shrote, and others, were present during the meeting. This long-pending rehabilitation, now on firm ground, marks a significant urban justice milestone for one of Nagpur's most neglected working-class communities, as per the families.

Indian woman's emotional post on sharing career milestone with parents in the US goes viral
In today's world, success is usually seen as getting promotions, salary hikes, or reaching big career goals. But a recent post by an Indian professional is going viral for a different reason. It reminds us that real success isn't just about what we achieve– it's also about celebrating it with the people who stood by us and supported us throughout the journey. Pratim Bhosale, a young professional living in Amsterdam, shared an emotional post on social media that touched people around the world. In the post, she showed her parents visiting the Nvidia office in California during their first trip to the US. The moment has started a conversation about how important it is to be thankful, value family, and recognise the emotional side of success that we often forget. A milestone beyond the workplace For many people working abroad, one of the most special moments is getting to show their parents the life they've built. That's exactly what happened with Pratim Bhosale. Her parents were visiting the US for the first time, and during their trip, they got a chance to see her brother's workplace– the Nvidia office in California. In her post, Bhosale reflected on the moment: 'Parents have been in the US for the past few weeks. This is their first trip to the US. Elder brother has been taking them across the country in small trips. Today, they are in his California office. Big smiles on their faces. I'm walking towards my office here in Amsterdam, and these photos have made me teary-eyed. Almost forgot this is the whole point.' Check out the post here: Bhosale shared a photo of her parents standing in the office lobby, with their faces blurred to keep their privacy. Even though it's a simple moment, the picture says a lot– it reflects the pride of a family and the deep emotional bond between one's career journey and the support of loved ones. Sharing success with family The post struck a chord with many people who've had similar experiences of taking their parents to their workplaces abroad. It shows how meaningful it is to share career milestones with those who've made many sacrifices to help their children succeed. In response to Bhosale's post, one user shared: 'Did the same two years ago with mine in London. Great refresher– this is why we do this.' Another comment read: 'My parents are visiting me in the US next week and now I'll definitely bring them into the office.' Redefining success In the corporate world, success is usually seen as getting promotions, earning more money, or holding big job titles. But Bhosale's post is a reminder that true happiness can come from simple, personal moments. It makes us rethink what success really means and highlights how special it is to share these moments with family. A commenter aptly put it: 'This is beautiful. Moments like these remind us why we're building– family, memories, and smiles that make it all worth it. '

Building Pune: PMC plans Rs 115 crore flyover-grade separator project to ease access to airport, Nagar Road
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planning to construct a flyover and grade separator at the busy Bindu Madhav Balasaheb Thackeray Chowk on Deccan College Road in Yerawada to remove bottlenecks and improve connectivity from the city to the airport and Nagar Road. 'The traffic on Deccan College Road has increased. Sangamwadi Road and Deccan College Road intersect at Bindu Madhav Balasaheb Thackeray Chowk in Yerawada, further adding to the chaos,' said Yuvraj Deshmukh, Chief Engineer, PMC. Pune city is mainly connected to the airport through Bund Garden and Sangamwadi bridges, both of which meet the Deccan College Road in Yerawada. The proposed flyover-cum-grade separator project is expected to ease the traffic situation on Deccan College Road and smoothen traffic flow from the city to the airport and Nagar Road, Deshmukh added. The PMC has floated a tender for the project, which is estimated to cost Rs 115.73 crore. 'It will be a four-lane, two-way flyover from Bund Garden to Khadki and Alandi Road, along with a three-lane one-way grade separator from Sangamwadi to Bund Garden and Ambedkar Chowk on the way to Pune airport,' Saurabh Chaudhari, project in-charge, PMC, explained. He said the project will be completed in 30 months from the day work begins. 'Once the project is done, it will ease connectivity to Ahmednagar as more flyovers are being constructed on Nagar Road. It will also enable faster connectivity to Pune airport from the city with no traffic jam or waiting at the junction,' Chaudhari added. The four-lane flyover will be 530 m long and 15.6 m wide, with an approach of 200 m on the Khadki side and 170 m on the Bund Garden side. The unidirectional grade separator for traffic moving from Sangamwadi to Ambedkar Chowk and Bund Garden will be 740 m long, including a covered stretch of 140m, an open stretch of 600m and a carriage width of 9m on the Sangamwadi side and 7.5 m wide each on Ambedkar Chowk and Bund Garden sides.
