Building Pune: PMC plans Rs 115 crore flyover-grade separator project to ease access to airport, Nagar Road

Indian Express4 days ago

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planning to construct a flyover and grade separator at the busy Bindu Madhav Balasaheb Thackeray Chowk on Deccan College Road in Yerawada to remove bottlenecks and improve connectivity from the city to the airport and Nagar Road.
'The traffic on Deccan College Road has increased. Sangamwadi Road and Deccan College Road intersect at Bindu Madhav Balasaheb Thackeray Chowk in Yerawada, further adding to the chaos,' said Yuvraj Deshmukh, Chief Engineer, PMC.
Pune city is mainly connected to the airport through Bund Garden and Sangamwadi bridges, both of which meet the Deccan College Road in Yerawada. The proposed flyover-cum-grade separator project is expected to ease the traffic situation on Deccan College Road and smoothen traffic flow from the city to the airport and Nagar Road, Deshmukh added.
The PMC has floated a tender for the project, which is estimated to cost Rs 115.73 crore.
'It will be a four-lane, two-way flyover from Bund Garden to Khadki and Alandi Road, along with a three-lane one-way grade separator from Sangamwadi to Bund Garden and Ambedkar Chowk on the way to Pune airport,' Saurabh Chaudhari, project in-charge, PMC, explained.
He said the project will be completed in 30 months from the day work begins. 'Once the project is done, it will ease connectivity to Ahmednagar as more flyovers are being constructed on Nagar Road. It will also enable faster connectivity to Pune airport from the city with no traffic jam or waiting at the junction,' Chaudhari added.
The four-lane flyover will be 530 m long and 15.6 m wide, with an approach of 200 m on the Khadki side and 170 m on the Bund Garden side.
The unidirectional grade separator for traffic moving from Sangamwadi to Ambedkar Chowk and Bund Garden will be 740 m long, including a covered stretch of 140m, an open stretch of 600m and a carriage width of 9m on the Sangamwadi side and 7.5 m wide each on Ambedkar Chowk and Bund Garden sides.

Govt to compensate highway operators, investors for losses due to annual pass scheme

NEW DELHI: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will come up with a compensation framework for private highway operators and investors, including overseas pension funds, who have betted on the highway sector for the losses they incur after rollout of 'annual pass' for private vehicles on national highways and expressways from Aug 15. This is particularly important considering that the highway sector has recorded the best outcomes in govt's monetisation programme and NHAI will receive greater focus for the purpose in the next five years. Sources in the road transport ministry said a committee will work out the framework over the next one month after holding deliberations with the stakeholders. Players across road infrastructure value chain, including companies such as Cube Mobility and IRB Infrastructure and the Adani group, sovereign fund and asset managers like NIIF, and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board have invested heavily in the sector. There are also several NH stretches where private highway builders are collecting toll as per ongoing contracts. 'There are some apprehensions among private investors who have taken on completed projects under the monetisation programme about their losses since they have paid upfront, based on projection of traffic and toll revenue. But since we have to keep in mind the interests of all stakeholders, especially users, we are sticking to the Aug 15 timeline,' a top NHAI official said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo NHAI has monetised its projects through three models — Toll Operate Transfer (TOT), infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs) and securitisation. The official added that work on the annual pass scheme had started months back and all implications have been worked out, based on past toll collection data. Data show that NHAI has achieved 71% of the monetisation target in the highway sector, raising Rs 1.2 lakh crore out of the targeted Rs 1.6 lakh crore till FY2024-25.

Contract maker Zetwerk set to pump Rs 500–800 crore for component making

Zetwerk is looking to pump in Rs 500–800 crore as the Bengaluru-based unicorn embarks on manufacturing printed circuit boards (PCBs), enclosures and electromechanical components such as heat sinks and sensors, said its co-founder Rahul Sharma 'We are very excited about the component PLI (production-linked incentive) and have seen a lot of traction,' he told ET. While the application for the government's PLI scheme is being prepared, Zetwerk has forged technology tie-ups with companies in Taiwan and is eyeing setting up manufacturing plants over the next one year. 'We are in talks with a Taiwanese company for PCBs and have gotten into a definitive agreement with them," Sharma said. "We are also speaking to a South Korean company. And for products like enclosures, we are partnering with an Indian company since that capability already exists here. Within enclosures, we are looking at enclosures for laptops and non-Apple mobile brands and products." ETtech Live Events Zetwerk is also evaluating potential collaborations with Chinese companies, particularly in specialised areas like PCBs, he said. Once we receive the necessary government approvals, we will move forward with these partnerships,' he said. Once the necessary approvals are obtained, Zetwerk would set up the manufacturing units, Sharma said. 'We are already present in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with plants in the electronics sector. Now, with the component PLI, we would be setting up new plants and are in close talks with a few of the state governments,' he said. While Sharma did not name the states that Zetwerk was engaging with, he said none of them had reached a definitive agreement yet. He also said that segments like electromechanical components, unlike PCBs, can be housed within the existing units. 'PCBs cannot be stationed at the same place where our existing EMS (electronic manufacturing services) factories are stationed,' he said. 'It will definitely be in a different place because it has different requirements for polishing control, power and other factors. Same goes for enclosures where we don't have to have these facilities situated in our existing clusters." Sharma further said, 'We have also hired one of the big four firms to help us prepare an application which is suitable for the government to evaluate.'
