Mortal remains of Keralites who died in Kenya bus accident brought home
KOCHI: The Mortal remains of the five Keralites who were killed after their bus plunged into a gorge in central Kenya, was brought to the Kochi airport on Sunday morning. Accompanied by relatives, the mortal remains were transferred to ambulances stationed at the international terminal arrivals gate, without stopping for public viewing, and taken to their respective home towns in Muvattupuzha, Tiruvalla and Palakkad.
Industries Minister P Rajeeve, Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA) GM Rashmi T and several other officials and dignitaries, who were at the airport, paid last respects to the deceased inside the ambulances.
The mortal remains of Jasna Makkar, 29, and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Roohi Mehrin from Muvattupuzha, Riya Ann, 41, and her daughter Tyra Rodrigues, 7, from Mannur in Palakkad, and Geetha Shoji Isaac, 58, from Tiruvalla, were brought on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha around 9.15 am. The bodies were handed to the authorities concerned and the ambulances carrying them left the airport by 10.30 am, said a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer

High Court pauses ED action against film producer in Tamil Nadu liquor scam
The Madras High Court, on Friday, halted all proceedings by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against film producer Aakash Baskaran. The court also directed the investigation agency to return all materials seized from ED raided multiple locations linked with Baskaran, and his associate, Vikram Ravindran, on May 16, in connection with the alleged scam in Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac). The ED's search and seizure operations at multiple premises were part of the intensified probe into the Tasmac a film producer at Dawn Pictures, came under the ED's scanner due to his alleged proximity to the ruling DMK party, specifically Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. His name emerged in connection with the alleged siphoning off of funds in the Tasmac scam. The Madras High Court questioned the legal foundation of the ED's actions against Baskaran and Ravindran. The Division Bench comprising Justices MS Ramesh and V Lakshminarayan held that the authorisation for the raids appeared to be prima facie beyond the ED's court also noted that the materials relied upon by the agency lacked any incriminating content justifying such coercive measures. The judges underscored that sealing premises in the absence of the occupants — without recording the presence of any material evidence — violated the scope of Section 17 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), mere act of sealing cannot be presumed as equivalent to seizure,' the bench observed, as quoted by Live Law, adding that such actions risked misleading implications about the agency's on May 22, the Supreme Court issued a stay on ED's investigation into Tasmac. Jaipur airport receives bomb threat; declared hoax after security search
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], June 20 (ANI): Jaipur Airport received a bomb threat on Thursday, which was later confirmed to be a hoax, police said. According to Airport Police Station officials, the threat message was received on the police control room's WhatsApp helpline number. Following the alert, a joint search operation was launched by the police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the airport premises. 'No suspicious object was found during the search operation,' Station House Officer (SHO) Sandeep Basera said. Earlier, on Wednesday, a bomb threat email targeting a Qatar Airways cargo flight was received at the Hyderabad airport, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement agencies, the GMR group said in an official statement. Following the threat, the authorities launched a high-alert operation at the airport. 'A bomb threat email targeting a Qatar Airways cargo flight 8650 was received at the Hyderabad airport at 06:31 hrs on 18th June 2025. The flight landed safely. A bomb threat assessment committee was formed, and all procedures were followed as per SOP,' GMR said. Speaking to ANI, the Assistant Commissioner of Police at Begumpet said, 'Begumpet airport received a bomb threat mail this morning. We are currently conducting a thorough search of the airport and its premises with the bomb squad. Further details will be provided later.' Authorities launched extensive checks with the help of bomb detection and disposal teams. As of now, no suspicious objects have been found. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, an IndiGo flight 6E 2706, which was travelling from Muscat to Delhi with a layover at Kochi, made an emergency landing at Nagpur Airport after receiving a bomb threat. According to Lohit Matani, DCP Nagpur, all passengers have been safely deboarded, and an investigation is currently underway. Preliminary checks have not found anything suspicious so far, officials said. Similarly, on Monday, officials informed that Lufthansa flight LH752, which was flying from Frankfurt to Hyderabad, was forced to return to Germany after a bomb threat was received. A committee has been formed to assess the threat as per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). (ANI)

HYDERABAD: CPI (Maoist) central committee member Gajarla Ravi, who was killed in an encounter in the forest areas of Alluri Sitarama Raju district in Andhra Pradesh, joined the movement at a young age and gradually rose through the ranks. There was a brief period in his youth when his brother Saraiah tried weaning Ravi away from the Maoists and made him join an ITI at Peddapalli. But Ravi eventually joined the Chityala area Revolutionary Youth League in 1989-90. By 1990, he was in the Eturunagaram dalam, working alongside his cousin brothers Gajarla Ramesh alias Gajarla Naveen, who later died in an encounter in 2020. Ironically, Saraiah too joined the Maoist movement later. In 2002 Ravi, who was a district committee secretary of the Karimnagar east division, was demoted to district committee member after he was held responsible for the infamous Chintagudem bus blast in Warangal in which 20 civilians were killed and 16 others were injured. However, he was soon promoted again. By 2004, he had become a state committee member and later took charge of the Khammam-Karimnagar-Warangal region under the North Special Zonal Committee. In 2009, he was shifted to the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC), becoming one of its top leaders. Trail of losses Ravi's wife, Nidigonda Prameela alias Meena, was also a member of the Maoist ranks. She served as the divisional committee secretary of AOBSZC and died in an encounter in Andrapalli on Oct 12, 2018. Saraiah too was a central committee member and part of the central military commission. He had 70 criminal cases against him and was linked to the Manala killings, in which eight tribals were executed on charges of being police informers. Another brother, Gajarla Ashok alias Aithu, was a district committee secretary of south Bastar. He surrendered in 2015 due to ill health. He now works as a reporter with a local newspaper. His wife, Shanigarapu Uma alias Anitha, formerly part of a Maoist medical team, now works as a staff nurse in a private hospital in Hanamkonda. The eldest brother, Gajarla Rajaiah alias Posaiah, did not survive the prolonged underground life and died due to ill health. The only brother to have led a non-Maoist life is Gajarla Sammaiah, a retired coal filler in Mancherial. A brother-in-law, Ramesh alias Naveen, also a Maoist, was killed in an encounter on July 26, 2020. He was part of the Annasagar dalam.
