Parramatta have granted Bryce Cartwright an immediate release to join his former club
Bryce Cartwright is heading back to where it all began with the veteran forward leaving Parramatta immediately to link up with the St Mary's Saints.
The move could draw a curtain on the 185 game NRL career of Cartwright who played for Penrith, Gold Coast and finally the Eels.
Cartwright, 30, played juniors for St Mary's before being signed by the Panthers and his departure continue the list overhaul at Parramatta being conducted by first-year coach Jason Ryles.
'I'm really thankful to the Eels for the opportunity to be part of this club, it always felt like a home away from home,' Cartwright said.
'I'm leaving with positive memories, lifelong mates and gratitude for everyone's support, especially the passionate fans who have always shown me love.
'While I've loved my time at Parramatta, this decision is about making the best choice for my family and our future.'
Parramatta general manager of football, Mark O'Neill said Cartwright, who hasn't played an NRL game in 2025 despite the battles for the ..-placed Eels, was a 'wonderful person' and wished him well.
'He has played some of his most consistent football with the Eels, and we wish him and his family all the best as he transitions to the next chapter of his life,' O'Neill said.
Cartwright move from the Titans to Parramatta in 2021, where he has made 73 first grade appearances, including 44 in 2023 and 2024.
But he's been out of favour with Ryles and a career that's been plagued with injuries and the odd off-field issues is now over.

Training team Patrick and Michelle Payne claim winning quartet at Flemington
Buccleuch has emerged as a lead candidate for the Listed Taj Rossi Series Final (1600m) next month with a dominant display at Flemington on Saturday. The Patrick and Michelle Payne-trained two-year-old Peltzer gelding enjoyed a lovely ride under jockey Billy Egan and surged to an impressive 2 ¼ length victory. Arcora flashed late to run second from Millennium Blade. Favourite Observer faded to run fifth after being pressured early in the 1420m race. 'I've ridden him through all his trials and races all the way through and he's always been improving, but he's never shown me a turn of foot like that,' Egan marvelled. 'He's always become a little unbalanced, a little leggy, and I thought he might be the type of horse that more maintains a gallop ... when he presented today he went straight past (Observer) like it was nailed to the fence, that took me really by surprise, so that's a really good win.' Patrick Payne won the corresponding Two-Year-Old Handicap with Cherry Tortoni in 2020 and then claimed the Taj Rossi Series Final. Cherry Tortoni returned in the spring on a Victoria Derby path, ultimately placed fourth in the Group 1, and collected the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase on the way through. Egan said Payne would make the right decisions around the spring potential for Buccleuch. 'Cherry Tortoni was very good, unbeaten as a two-year-old, this bloke has been a little slower to develop … but that win there probably peaked around one of Cherry's wins (at the same stage),' Egan said. 'Patty did the same thing with Cherry Tortoni, he won (in the winter) and had a short let up before spring, he's in the right hands, if anyone can do it, he can.' Co-trainer Michelle Payne praised both Buccleuch and Egan's ride. 'Beautiful ride there by Billy Egan, he stepped a little bit slow and Billy was able to nurse him into a good position without giving away the spot he wanted,' Payne said. Trainer Bruce Cross and owner/breeder Malcolm Chung are best known via the deeds of the sensational siblings, Epsom winner Final Fantasy and Canberra Cup winner Padfoot Charlie. Now, a quarter of a century on, the pair may have themselves another 'good horse' from the very same 'vines' that produced their former dynamic duo. Her name is Just Like Tilda. The daughter of Divine Prophet created a lasting impression when finishing over the top of her rivals to score an impressive, bookie-busting, debut win at Kembla earlier this month when crunched from an opening quote of $6.50 into $4.80. Cross could be forgiven for talking up Just Like Tilda on the score of her debut but is playing down any hype. 'At the moment, I am holding my powder dry,' Cross said. The Titans, who play Parramatta away on Sunday night, have also had good news on their two State of Origin representatives Moeaki Fotuaika and Tino Fa'asuamalaeaui. Both middle forwards travelled to Sydney on Saturday to join the team and are set to play the Eels. Fa'asuamaleaui had a sternum complaint he took into Queensland's 26-24 win over NSW in Perth, but is determined to play Parramatta so long as there is no late complication. Brimson was man of the match in last week's 28-8 win over Manly playing at fullback. It was easily the Titans' best win of the year with 11 players unavailable - two to Origin and nine injured. The Titans play North Queensland at home next week and then have the bye. Brimson said it was vital the side string back-to-back wins together, starting with Parramatta, so as to have a crack at a late run to the finals. "We are planning on (the Manly win) not being a one-off. We think this is what we have been capable of for weeks," he said. "You enjoy every win when you are on the bottom. We are trying to put together some wins to finish off the year and see where we can go with it. "After a short turnaround and as outsiders that was a good team performance. "We spoke about taking the shackles off because we enjoy playing footy and that was Titans footy … backing ourselves and playing eyes-up footy. "We are back on track with the way we want to play. We have got Parramatta and we are not getting ahead of ourselves." Veteran Foran also had his best game of the season at No.6 and said the Titans were capable of figuring in September.
