Hymas, Stanford turn it on to win Jumeirah Pairs by The Brain and Performance Centre
Under the relentless Dubai sun, 80 determined golfers teed it up for the Jumeirah Pairs by The Brain and Performance Centre, a DP World Company, in a spirited showcase of camaraderie at the Jumeirah Golf Estates.
The format for the day was a Pairs Combined Stableford, where each golfer played their own ball, and scores were tallied by combining each pair's stableford points per hole. With this format encouraging both consistency and occasional bold shot-making, it made for compelling golf from start to finish. Players were also reminded to pick up if they could no longer score on a hole — a small but strategic twist that kept the pace brisk and competitive.
Men played from the specially marked composite tees, while women took on the course from forward tees, setting the stage for a fair and balanced contest.
Beyond the main competition, players vied for glory in several on-course challenges, including the ever-popular "Beat the Pro" against Brandon Moodley on Hole 4, as well as Nearest the Pin contests on Holes 6 and 17, and Nearest the Pin in Two on Hole 10.
Rising to the occasion in the Beat the Pro challenge was Nick Hymas, who not only bested the pro but would go on to leave his mark on the overall tournament as well.
Precision play was on full display throughout the course. Carl Downham took Nearest the Pin honors on Hole 6, while Mitsuko Emmerson showcased her accuracy on Hole 17. On the longer test at Hole 10, Abdulla Darwish earned bragging rights for Nearest the Pin in Two.
In the main competition, there was no shortage of drama as scores climbed and leaders jostled for the top spot. In third place were Moustafa Shahin and Eric Shehadeh, finishing strong with a combined 74 points. Just ahead of them, Edward McCullagh and Montek Mayal clinched the runner-up position with a solid 76 points.
But it was Nick Hymas and Richard Stanford who truly stole the show. Their outstanding round, marked by sharp iron play, steady putting, and that winning mentality, earned them a superb 80 Stableford points, securing their place as the champions of the May Jumeirah Pairs.
Meanwhile, in the Gross Division — judged purely on raw scoring — the team of Ed East and Thomas Kennedy impressed with an excellent total of 60 points, proving that power and precision can go hand in hand.
The tournament was proudly sponsored by The Brain and Performance Centre, whose continued support brings an added dimension of excellence and prestige to the event.
With another successful day in the books, players and spectators alike are already looking forward to the next edition of this standout fixture on the golfing calendar.

Asian Tour poised for thrilling second half as global talent takes center stage
With June drawing to a close, it's the perfect time to take a mid-season look at the fast-evolving landscape of the Asian Tour in 2025. So far, the tour has hosted eight qualifying events, with 15 more to come, including its traditionally strong second half. Major highlights ahead include next month's Open Championship at Royal Portrush, the prestigious $5 million PIF Saudi International in Riyadh in November, and the $1 million Saudi Open presented by PIF in December (venue to be confirmed). Anchoring the schedule are seven more International Series events, the cornerstone of the calendar that kicked off in the Philippines back in January. After a brief pause, action resumes with the $2 million International Series Morocco from July 3–6 at the Red Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam. Both the Asian Tour Order of Merit and the International Series Rankings currently showcase a strong mix of Asian Tour regulars and LIV Golf stars, reflecting the tour's growing international appeal. At the top of the Order of Merit sits Carlos Ortiz (Mexico), while Lucas Herbert (Australia), a former HERO Dubai Desert Classic champion, leads the IS Rankings. Players from seven different countries feature in each top 10 list which is a testament to the global reach of the tour. Notably, Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed both hold top-five positions in the International Series standings. As in previous years, the winner of the IS Rankings earns a coveted spot on the following LIV Golf season, provided they're not already part of its roster. This creates an added layer of incentive for players throughout the year. The LIV Golf investment - which includes the International Series and broader Asian Tour initiatives - continues to elevate the tour, bringing international attention and additional value to all events at a pivotal time in golf's global development. The second half of the season promises even more excitement as players from the Asian Tour, LIV, and other circuits battle it out for prize money, Official World Golf Ranking points, and career-shaping opportunities. Much like the DP World Tour, the Asian Tour, along with its Asian Development Tour (ADT), continues to champion regional talent through partnerships with bodies like the Arab Golf Federation (AGF). These platforms are crucial for nurturing elite amateur and professional players across the Middle East, under the guidance of the Saudi Golf Federation (SGF). Next week's event in Morocco exemplifies this commitment, with players from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and host nation Morocco among those entered so far - a showcase of emerging regional talent alongside seasoned pros. Order of Merit (post-U.S. Open): Carlos Ortiz (Mexico) Sadom Kaewkanjana (Thailand) Ollie Schniederjans (USA) Dongmin Mun (Korea) Ryan Peake (Australia) International Series Rankings (post-U.S. Open): Lucas Herbert (Australia) Carlos Ortiz (Mexico) Ollie Schniederjans (USA) Bryson DeChambeau (USA) Patrick Reed (USA) For full details and schedule updates, visit:

Godolphin adds another glorious chapter at Royal Ascot
Royal Ascot, the glittering jewel of British flat racing, once again lived up to its lofty billing this year, delivering unforgettable moments, stirring narratives, and heart-stopping finishes. For Godolphin, the global racing force established by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in 1993, this year's Royal Ascot was a meeting to remember. It was a vivid display of grit, talent, and an unwavering commitment to raising the bar of thoroughbred racing excellence. 'It's the Olympics of racing,' trainer Charlie Appleby remarked, summing up a tumultuous five days where highs and lows collided and heartbreak gave way to triumph most spectacularly. Godolphin's week was crowned by standout performances that echoed the values on which Sheikh Mohammed created the stable — ambition and a global outlook. From the Ombudsman's defining win, Trawlerman's relentless staying power, and Rebel's Romance's defiant brilliance on the final day, the Royal Meeting became a grand stage for blue silks to shine. In the Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes, Ombudsman didn't just win — he made a statement. The four-year-old son of Night of Thunder now widely seen as Europe's top older middle-distance contender, powered away from the pack with such authority that competitors were left trailing in his wake. A tilt at the Eclipse Stakes (July 5 at Sandown Park), a high-stakes contest between three-year-olds and older horses could be next as he continues his upward trajectory. Following the win legendary trainer John Gosden, a US Racing Hall of Fame trainer, paid tribute to Godolphin's founder saying: 'Sheikh Mohammed is without doubt the nicest and easiest owner I've ever trained for. He says, 'Do what we think is right.' I never get pushed. This horse wouldn't be the horse he is without that kind of patience.' Thursday was the day of redemption and record-setting for Godolphin's Trawlerman. After finishing second in last year's gruelling 4,014-metre Gold Cup, the seasoned seven-year-old returned with fierce determination, surging ahead to claim victory by an impressive seven lengths — a true masterclass in endurance. Once again, the training duties were handled by John Gosden and his son Thady 'He owed us nothing, but he gave us everything," said William Buick, Godolphin's retained jockey. Dubai Future, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, a gallant third in the same race, confirmed Godolphin's strength in depth. Only two days later, William Buick was back in the saddle, guiding one of Godolphin's flagbearers to another unforgettable triumph. Rebel's Romance, already a globe-trotting marvel with Group 1, wins on three continents, became the oldest horse ever to win the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes. It was Appleby's final runner of the week, a last roll of the dice. Appleby's voice cracked with emotion as he spoke of Rebel's Romance: "What more can I say about this horse? He's more than our Iron Horse. He's kept our yard afloat this week. He's our stable favourite and always will be." The Dubawi gelding took his win tally to 18 wins, stretching his lead over stablemates Anamoe and Lemon Pop as Godolphin's most prolific racehorse. Seven of those iconic victories have come at Group 1 level. From the Breeders' Cup Turf to the Dubai Sheema Classic, from Hong Kong to Germany, he's flown the Godolphin flag with distinction. And now, he has added a Royal Ascot success to his glittering portfolio. Meanwhile, Godolphin's longest-serving trainer Saeed bin Suroor added his own historic touch to the week when he saddled Arabian Story to win the Britannia Stakes handing veteran handler his 40th Royal Ascot winner — a milestone that underlines his longevity and craft. Though Godolphin fell short of clinching a third consecutive Leading Owner title, a feat they proudly achieved in 2021 and 2022, their 2024 campaign sent a clear message: their dominance on the world stage remains undiminished, their spirit as fierce as ever. As the dust settles on another epic Royal Ascot meeting, there is no denying that the blue silks of Godolphin added another memorable chapter to their illustrious history.
