JKNC MP Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi pays tribute at 129th Urs of Mian Nizam-u-Din Kiyanvi (RA)
Ganderbal (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 8 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) MP Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi on Sunday paid tributes at the 129th Urs of Mian Nizam-u-Din Kiyanvi (RA) and highlighted the saint's message of unity and spiritual wisdom.
Devotees from various parts of the country gathered at Baba Nagri, Wangat Kangan to offer prayers at the revered shrine of Mian Nizam-u-Din Kiyanvi (RA) during the 129th Urs.
The atmosphere was filled with spiritual devotion as people paid their respects and sought blessings. Many devotees expressed deep gratitude for being able to attend the annual event, calling it a spiritually uplifting experience that strengthens their faith and connection to the Sufi saint's teachings.
On Tuesday, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah welcomed the celebration of both the Kheer Bhawani Mela and the Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, calling it a symbol of communal harmony in Kashmir. He stressed the importance of unity for national progress.
Speaking to ANI, Farooq Abdullah said, 'It is a matter of joy that the mela of Kheer Bhawani and Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani are being celebrated today. There has always been brotherhood in the valley. We want to see this brotherhood across the country. If we stay united, we will progress.'
The Kheer Bhawani Mela is an important annual religious festival for the Kashmiri Pandit community. It is held at the Kheer Bhawani Temple in Tulla Mulla village of Ganderbal district. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Ragnya Devi, a form of Goddess Durga, and is considered one of the holiest sites for Kashmiri Hindus.
Abdullah also appealed to devotees to visit the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, expressing concern over the drop in pilgrim numbers following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
'We should go to Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra and appeal to the people to visit there. There has been a decrease in the number of devotees to Mata Vaishno Devi. People are scared after the tragedy of war that took place recently. The impact of the Pahalgam incident was seen throughout the country,' Abdullah told ANI. (ANI)

The post started a chatter, as people asked why Tej Pratap married in 2018 if he was in a relationship. The RJD leader married Aishwarya Rai, daughter of political heavyweight Chandrika Rai, in 2018. The couple separated months later and a divorce case is on. Amid this chatter, Tej Pratap claimed his profile had been hacked. "My social media platform was hacked and my photographs were edited wrongfully," he wrote on X. The next day, Tej Pratap's father and RJD patriarch Lalu Yadav announced the decision to expel him from the party. He said "ignoring moral values" in personal life weakens the community's struggle for social justice. "The elder son's activities, public behaviour and irresponsible conduct are not in line with our family's values. In the current circumstances, I remove him from the party and the family. From now on, he will have no role in the party and the family. While the Nitish Kumar-led alliance of the BJP and JDU is looking to return to power, the RJD-Congress block is going all out to secure a win. Tej Pratap said that as an elder brother, he wants RJD's Tejashwi Yadav to become Bihar's Chief Minister. Sheikh Hasina (Image: ANI) DHAKA: A Bangladesh government-appointed commission investigating hundreds of disappearances by the security forces under ousted premier Sheikh Hasina on Monday warned that the same "culture of impunity" continues. The Commission of Inquiry into Enforced Disappearances is probing abuses during the rule of Hasina, whose government was accused of widespread human rights abuses. That includes the extrajudicial killing of hundreds of political opponents and the unlawful abduction and disappearance of hundreds more. The commission was established by interim leader, Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus , 84, who is facing intense political pressure as parties jostle for power ahead of elections expected early next year. Bangladesh has a long history of military coups and the army retains a powerful role. "Enforced disappearances in Bangladesh were not isolated acts of wrongdoing, but the result of a politicised institutional machinery that condoned, normalised, and often rewarded such crimes," the commission said, in a section of a report released by the interim government on Monday. Commission chief Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury said earlier this month that responsibility lay with individual officers, who were "involved in conducting enforced disappearances", but not the armed forces as an institution. Earlier this month, a joint statement by rights groups -- including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch - called on the security forces to "fully cooperate with the commission by guaranteeing unfettered and ongoing access to all detention centres and providing free access to records regarding those seized or detained". Oman income tax: 5% levy on high earners from 2028; 99% population to remain unaffected
Oman to introduce first income tax for high earners from 2028 (Image credits: ANI) Oman announced the introduction of personal income tax, targeting high-income individuals, as part of a broader fiscal reform initiative under its Vision 2040 strategy. The new tax, first in the history of Oman, will take effect from January 1, 2028, and impose a 5 per cent levy on individuals earning more than OMR 42,000 per year. The measure was formally issued under Royal Decree No. 56/2025 by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and marks a significant step towards economic diversification. Karima Mubarak Al Saadi, director of the personal income tax project, said that infrastructure, training, and legal frameworks are already in place, reported ANI. She added that awareness and educational guides for individuals and businesses will be rolled out in stages ahead of the law's implementation. To facilitate implementation, Oman is building a modern electronic tax system that will link government databases for accurate income reporting and improved compliance. The executive regulations for the new law will be issued within a year of its publication in the Official Gazette. Other goals include improving fiscal stability, supporting public welfare programs, and enhancing the country's credit ratings. In 2024, Oman collected OMR 1.4 billion in corporate, VAT, and selective taxes. The addition of personal income tax is expected to strengthen the nation's fiscal position and enhance its appeal to global investors. This move also reflects a broader regional shift in the Gulf, where countries are seeking to build more sustainable and resilient economies by reducing dependence on oil income.
