Woman stole bank card from American tourist visiting Cork and went on pub crawl around city
A Northern Irish woman stole a purse from an American tourist visiting Cork and used her bank card to buy food and drink on a pub crawl through the city prompting the judge to remark 'she almost left a trail of breadcrumbs behind her.'
Judge Philip O'Leary sentenced the accused to a total of five months in prison in respect of multiple charges to which she pleaded guilty.
56-year-old Michelle Dillon, of Glenview House, Lisburn Road, Belfast, had some difficulties in her life and travelled to Cork for a break, but ran out of money during her visit.
Diarmuid Kelleher, solicitor, said after stealing the purse at Da Mirco restaurant on Bridge Street, Ms Dillon could be tracked by the use of the bank card from there through other premises in Cork City.
At that point in the case, Judge Philip O'Leary said 'she almost left a trail of breadcrumbs behind her'.
Mr Kelleher accepted the theft of the purse belonging to the American visitor was not a nice experience for this woman.
The solicitor said: 'Through very good police work, she was met at Cork Simon Community. She was so drunk the interview had to be postponed until the following morning. She pleading guilty to all these matters at the earliest opportunity.
'She has a lot of difficulties, including a very bad alcohol problem. She is from North of Ireland and decided to visit Cork because her late father from Wexford used to bring them to Cork as children. It was a trip down memory lane.
'But she ran out of money, she took the items and effectively went on a pub crawl of the local vicinity.'
Sergeant Gearóid Davis said the offending commenced on Bridge Street and continued at a number of venues in the city, where food and drink was paid for with the stolen card.
The locations for the thefts in this manner included Da Mirco restaurant, Maldron Hotel, The Poor Relation on Parnell Place and El Fenix on Union Quay.
Mr Kelleher said: 'When she was sober, she woke up to what she had done. She had a traumatic life herself and has medical difficulties. She has been out of trouble since 2009 but had this lapse. When she was caught, she ensured the tourist got her belongings back.'

US singer Chris Brown pleads not guilty to ‘bottle attack' charge
R&B SINGER CHRIS Brown has pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm in an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub. The American musician, 36, is accused of attempting to unlawfully and maliciously cause grievous bodily harm with intent to Abraham Diaw at the Tape venue, a private members' club in Hanover Square, Mayfair, on 19 February 2023. Brown confirmed his name and date of birth before entering his plea, saying: 'Not guilty ma'am' during the plea and trial preparation hearing at Southwark Crown Court. His co-defendant, US national Omololu Akinlolu, who turned 39 today, denied the same charge. Both defendants are further charged with assaulting Diaw occasioning him actual bodily harm, with Brown also facing one count of having an offensive weapon – a bottle – in a public place. Sallie Bennett-Jenkins KC, defending Brown, told the court it has been difficult to discuss matters with her client while he is working. Around 20 people sat in the public gallery behind the dock for today's hearing, many of them fans of the singer. Advertisement A date for a five to seven-day trial was set for 26 October 2026. Brown had arrived at around 9am to a large group of photographers outside court, and walked in silence to the building's entrance. Brown arrived to a large group of photographers outside court. He had to pay a £5 million security fee to the court as part of the bail agreement, which is a financial guarantee to ensure a defendant returns to court and may be forfeited if they breach bail conditions. Manchester Magistrates' Court heard last month that Diaw was standing at the bar of the Tape nightclub when he was struck several times with a bottle, and then pursued to a separate area of the nightclub where he was punched and kicked repeatedly. Brown was arrested at Manchester's Lowry Hotel at 2am on 15 May by detectives from the Metropolitan Police. He is said to have flown into Manchester Airport on a private jet in preparation for the UK tour dates. Brown was released from HMP Forest Bank in Salford, Greater Manchester, on 21 May. Shortly after being released from prison, Brown posted an Instagram story referencing his upcoming tour. The Journal / YouTube

He has been named as 46-year-old Jarrod Gelling. Zunilda, who called herself Amy, had been missing since Saturday after flying to the Costa del Sol from Dubai. Her relatives described Jarrod overnight as "aggressive" and said they believe he could have lashed out after she told him she wanted a divorce. read more on the sun Zunilda's niece Yuleydis told Malaga-based newspaper Sur her aunt was going to help Jarrod following a knee operation before travelling to Portugal to compete and then going back to Colombia alone after taking the divorce decision. She said: "For my aunt it was the last trip, a goodbye. "She had taken the decision to split from her husband because of his aggressive behaviour. "They had broken up already once and were apart for quite a while but then got back together again to try to resolve things, although the mistreatment continued." Most read in Sport The couple's bodies were found just before 2pm yesterday inside a property on a residential estate. Zunilda's gym companion raised the alarm saying he hadn't seen her since June 14. A National Police spokesman in Malaga said: "The National Police is investigating the death of a man and woman found lifeless at a property in Fuengirola. "In the absence of official identification of the bodies, initial inquiries are pointing to them being those of a 43-year-old woman of Colombian origin and her 46-year-old partner of American origin. "Officers went to the property on a residential estate about 1.45pm after a friend of the woman whose body was found reported her disappearance on Wednesday at the National Police Station in Torremolinos. "Her body showed obvious signs of violence and that of the man's signs indicating a suicide-type death which is something an autopsy will have to confirm." The suspected killer is believed to have Colombian and US nationality. If the woman's death is confirmed as a gender violence murder, it would be the third so far in the province of Malaga and the fifth in Southern Spain's Andalucia region. Spanish news website El Espanol has reported that Zunilda also had more than 100,000 followers on OnlyFans and Fansly. She finished second in the NPC Worldwide Latin American Championships in 2021. Her coach Branden Rey said in an emotional Instagram post: "We had 17 days until we were going to hit the stage and shock the world my friend. "I told you that you could possibly be top 10 in the world by the end of this year and I meant it. "Rest in paradise Amy." Bodybuilder friend and coach Behnaz Azar said in an online tribute: "I don't know where to begin. "My heart is broken, my mind is clouded, and my soul is drowning in shock and sorrow. "Amy - my kind, strong, fierce friend. "The most powerful woman I knew in the world of bodybuilding, yet with the gentlest heart." 5 Zunilda's niece Yuleydis told Malaga-based newspaper Sur her aunt was going to help Jarrod following a knee operation Credit: Solarpix 5 If the woman's death is confirmed as a gender violence murder, it would be the third so far in the province of Malaga Credit: Solarpix
