PFF not sold on Dante Moore's star potential for Oregon Ducks in 2025
Perhaps the biggest driving force of success in college football is the level of quarterback play a team has. Currently, it seems that having a superstar at the position is not as important as simply having competent quarterback play.
We've seen the Ohio State Buckeyes and Georgia Bulldogs win National Championships with quarterbacks who were simply serviceable in Will Howard and Stetson Bennett, while the Florida State Seminoles were derailed by a catastrophic season from D.J. Uiagalelei.
After Heisman trophy finalist Dillon Gabriel got drafted this year, the Oregon Ducks are expected to name Dante Moore their starting quarterback, and they are hoping for the latter. Unfortunately, Pro Football Focus released analytical rankings of the Power Four quarterbacks, and Moore did not grade very well.
The ranking factors in multiple accuracy categories like passes completed in stride and throws within the wide receiver's frame. In Moore's lone season as a starter in 2023, he posted just a 53.5% completion percentage, so it's not hard to see why his accuracy graded so poorly.
The company ranked the quarterbacks into groups to make the rankings more comprehensible, and the assumed Ducks starter was placed into the 'Longshots and Lower-Rated Vets' bucket. That would be less than ideal, but the saving grace for Oregon is that Moore has started just five games in his collegiate career, so he has more than enough room to grow.
He'll also be surrounded by an abundance of talent this year with the Ducks, so there is a good chance that he performs much better during his second stint as a starter.

Wade was a valuable piece to Auburn's offensive line last season, and his experience will be huge in 2025. Dillon Wade was a valuable piece to Auburn's offensive line in 2024 by playing over 100 snaps at three different positions last season. Wade spent the majority of last season playing left tackle, where he totaled 379 snaps. Outside of tackle, he provided help at left guard and right tackle by playing 254 and 116 snaps, respectively. He added two snaps at right guard as well. The 2024 season was unique for Wade, who is primarily a left tackle. In 2023, he played 816 snaps at left tackle for Auburn, adding three at right tackle. In his first year as a starter at Tulsa in 2022, he played 816 snaps at the position. This season, he should be able to stay at one position for most of the season as depth will be greater. Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback Trevor Lawrence Makes PFF "Most To Prove" List
Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback Trevor Lawrence Makes PFF "Most To Prove" List originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Jacksonville Jaguars are entering a new era in 2025 under first-year head coach Liam Coen searching for some much-needed success. The organization, who has made just two NFL Playoff appearances in the past decade, will hope to turn things around under new direction. Advertisement A big part of whether that comes to fruition or not will come down to the performance of Trevor Lawrence at quarterback -- entering his fifth season in the league, Lawrence has been the Jaguars' starter since his rookie season in 2021 and signed a five-year contract extension last summer. Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence takes the field for a Hartline-Imagn Images But after having his best NFL season yet in 2022, his performance has dipped over the past two seasons as he has struggled with injuries. In 2024, he was sidelined with an injury after playing just 10 games and passing for 2,045 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. For some, the perception of Lawrence as a solid starter in the NFL is on the line entering this season. And with the weight of his recent contract extension weighing on the Jaguars, and Jacksonville hungry to get back to playoff-caliber football, it makes sense that Lawrence was recently included on Pro Football Focus' list of 10 NFL players with the most to prove in 2025. Advertisement "Lawrence is coming off his worst season since his rookie campaign. He ranked in the top 15 among NFL quarterbacks in PFF overall grade in his second and third seasons in the league but placed only 19th in 2024 (76.8). That came on the heels of his contract extension last offseason, which made him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL but simultaneously put him under pressure to play at a higher level," PFF wrote. Lawrence will have the weapons surrounding him to succeed, with big targets in second-season wideout Brian Thomas Jr. -- who had over 1,200 receiving yards as a rookie -- and the second overall 2025 NFL Draft selection Travis Hunter. Whether or not Lawrence can live up to the version of his game we saw in 2022, when he passed for 4,113 yards and 25 touchdowns, remains to be seen. But if he can't rekindle that success, it might not bold well for his future in the NFL. ESPN's Cam Pushes Wild Cowboys' Dak vs. Arch Prediction
ESPN's Cam Pushes Wild Cowboys' Dak vs. Arch Prediction originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Cam Newton made headlines with a recent claim: if Dak Prescott doesn't lead the Dallaa Cowboys to the NFC Championship Game this season, Dallas should move on—and go all in for Arch Manning. Advertisement On every level—financial, practical, and logical—it's pure wild fantasy. Let's start with the money. Prescott isn't entering a standard contract year. He's entering Year 1 of a brand-new extension that's already been restructured to push some of his money into later years. The financial implications of cutting or trading him are staggering. A post-June 1 cut in 2025 would cost the Cowboys over $90 million in dead money. Even waiting until 2026 only drops that number to $74 million. Trading Dak post-June 1 in 2026 could still carry a $34–$90 million hit depending on timing. In plain terms: the Cowboys are tied to Dak until 2027. Advertisement Now let's talk Arch Manning. He's not planning on entering the NFL Draft in 2026. He's said it, his family has hinted at it, and Texas insiders all echo the same thing: Arch plans to stay with the Longhorns for two more years. That would make him eligible in 2027—at the absolute earliest. And even if, in a wild twist, Arch Manning wins a national title and Heisman this year and decides to declare for the 2026 draft—how would Dallas go about getting him? Newton's scenario assumes a playoff team will magically land a top-three pick in a stacked draft. That's not how this works. The Cowboys would need a full-blown collapse, a historic trade package, or both. Advertisement In short? There is no timeline, financial scenario, or football logic that supports Cam's hypothetical. … and it's a shame that ESPN provides a forum to 'experts' so lacking in basic information. But we suppose … It's the NFL's quietest time of year. And in the silence, sometimes the loudest takes make the least sense.
