US' Afghan War Veteran Tears Into Trump's "Lack Of Seriousness" Over Iran

Wes Moore, the first Black and 63rd Governor of Maryland, who is also a combat veteran who led troops in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan, is disappointed in US President Donald Trump. He accused Trump of showing "lack of seriousness" in dealing with the Iran-Israel conflict. "As someone who has worn this uniform, and you know, along with my fellow service members risked my life in defence of this country, to see such a free-wheeling conversation about issues of life and death is disappointing," he said in an interview on Thursday. This comes after Trump delivered an "ultimate ultimatum" warning to Iran to not develop a nuclear weapon. Speaking about whether the United States will join Israel in its military offensive against Iran, the US President said, "I may do it, I may not do it - nobody knows what I'm going to do." Just a few hours earlier, Iran's Supreme Leader had said that Iran "will never surrender". He was responding to Donald Trump's call for an "unconditional surrender" from Tehran's regime. Moore, a rising star and a potential candidate for the presidential 2028 run, said that "people's lives (are) on the line" in the ongoing and escalating Middle-East conflict. "These are serious issues and these are very serious times," Moore said. "The lack of seriousness that is surrounding these conversations, the whole 'will I-won't I' playing games is not helpful to this larger conversation", the 46-year-old governor said. Anna Kelly, the White House deputy press secretary, said in a statement, responding to Moore's comment, "Americans overwhelmingly elected President Trump because they trust him to keep our country safe. As the President has said consistently, Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon." Friday marks the eighth day of the Iran-Israel conflict and countries such as Germany, Canada, the UK and Australia have toughened their rhetoric and have demanded a full abandonment of Iran's nuclear program.

LISTEN: Christy Moore releases new track for Michael D. Higgins

Christy Moore has released 'Music to Our Ears', a spoken word tribute to President Michael D. Higgins. The track, written by poet Johnny Broderick and produced by Gavin Murphy, celebrates President Higgins' life and legacy as he enters the last months of his second and final term in office. The tribute will also feature on the extended edition of Moore's No.1 album A Terrible Beauty , set for release later this year. Speaking on the project, Christy said: 'I think it is a beautiful tribute to our esteemed President and His Family. I think Johnny B's words express what many of us feel about Michael D. and, Our First Lady, Sabina.' The tribute is the latest show of respect and admiration between Christy Moore and President Higgins. In a heartfelt message celebrating Moore's 80th birthday earlier this year, President Higgins praised the singer's decades of service to music and culture. 'Through your music, you have lent voice to those often unheard, bringing to the public discourse the concerns, hopes, and struggles of ordinary people with extraordinary empathy and dignity,' he said. He also described Moore's voice as 'one of the most distinctive and enduring in Irish life,' commending his 'profound sense of justice' and his grounding in 'the values of community, equality and solidarity.' Reflecting on a visit to Aras an Uachtarain, Moore once wrote: 'Encounters with Michael D. over many decades have always been memorable. Meeting him again as the elected President of Ireland was a particular pleasure. There was a feeling of having a true 'man of the people' in Aras an Uachtarain.' President Michael D. Higgins, a former Hot Press columnist from 1983 to 1993, will step down from his role later this year after serving the maximum of 14 years in office. Christy Moore releases spoken word tribute track for President Michael D Higgins

Irish music legend Christy Moore has released a spoken word tribute to President Michael D Higgins. Music to Our Ears, written by poet Johnny Broderick and produced by Gavin Murphy, is a celebration of the life and legacy of Ireland's President in the last year of his tenure. Speaking of how the work came about, Moore said: "I was working in Gavin Murphy's Studio. Gavin shared music he was composing for a poem John Broderick had written in advance of President Michael D's departure from Áras and Úachtaráin. I read the poem and listened to the music. I offered to recite the words. Claddagh [Records] heard it and suggested we make it available to the public. "I think it is a beautiful tribute to our esteemed President and his Family. I think Johnny B's words express what many of us feel about Michael D. and our First Lady, Sabina." President Higgins was elected President of Ireland in 2011 and is currently serving his second term. Moore has released Music to Our Ears alongside a lyric video to accompany the powerful tribute. It opens with the lines: "There is an aura that surrounds you, with decency you are blessed. There is a warmth in your presence, for every welcome guest." It continues: "You are a voice for the voiceless, like thunder in the plain. An empathetic ear for the afflicted, selfless, humble, but never vain." Music to Our Ears concludes: "Statesmanlike and diplomatic, charismatic without fears. You are a national treasure treasured, you have been music to our ears." The track will feature on the extended edition of Moore's No.1 album A Terrible Beauty.

Trinity College has all the answers in Hampton Court Stakes

With the formidable pair having already landed the Norfolk with Charles Darwin and the Ribblesdale with Garden Of Eden, French Derby fourth Trinity College was the 5-2 favourite for his Group Three assignment and dictated at the head of affairs from the start. Tornado Alert, fourth in the 2000 Guineas and sixth in the Derby, was Trinity College's nearest pursuer throughout and tried to keep tabs on him in the straight, but the winner found another gear inside the final furlong and was well on top as he passed the post with three and a half lengths in hand. O'Brien was delighted to see the son of Dubawi get his moment in the spotlight after his fine effort at Chantilly last time and said: 'It was a lovely run in the French Derby and Wayne (Lordan) rode him the last day and we were very happy. 'He wasn't beaten that far and he turned around the form with Detain (third in Chantilly) here. 'Ryan gave him a lovely, uncomplicated ride. He's a lovely, straightforward horse and his trip is a mile and a quarter. 'We've always thought he was a nice horse and he's only really started to progress now – you would have to be very happy with that. 'I would say 10 furlongs is his trip and he's very comfortable at that distance because he's not slow. 'He could go to America and there is an American Derby (at Churchill Downs) he could run in but the problem is it is only in a couple of weeks, so we will have to see how he is, it could be too soon. He's a good member of the team.' Trinity College provided Moore with his 90th winner at the Royal meeting, 17 years on from his first at the summer showpiece aboard Sir Michael Stoute's Colony. Moore said: 'It's great to get to 90. I've rode for great people for a lot of years and a lot of people who put in a lot of hard work and sweat. Obviously having Aidan in my corner is also a massive help.' Saeed bin Suroor is eager to get Tornado Alert's head in front next time. He said: 'He ran well to finish sixth in the Derby, and now second in a nice race here is good. He is improving. We will see how he comes out of this, but we will look for a Group Three race.' Glittering Legend was third for James Fanshawe but the trainer expects the horse to move to a new country now. He said: 'He ran really well. He got a bump early on, which just set him alight a bit, but he dropped his head really well and kept on well. 'Unfortunately, I think he's off to Hong Kong now, but he's done really well. I think it will turn out to be a good race.'

Wes Moore accuses Trump of ‘a lack of seriousness' in dealing with Iran

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, a combat veteran who led troops in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan, accused President Donald Trump of displaying 'a lack of seriousness' in dealing with the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. 'As someone who has worn this uniform, and you know, along with my fellow service members risked my life in defense of this country, to see such a free-wheeling conversation about issues of life and death is disappointing,' Moore said in an interview Thursday. Moore's comments come a day after Trump said at the White House that he delivered an 'ultimate ultimatum' to leaders in Tehran about disarming their nuclear program while also telling reporters 'I may do it, I may not do it' with regard to the U.S. striking Iran's nuclear sites. On Thursday, the White House said Trump will make a decision on whether to strike Iran within two weeks. Moore, seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party and a potential 2028 presidential contender, emphasized the huge stakes at play in the ongoing and escalating Mideast conflict. 'These are serious issues and these are very serious times,' Moore said. 'The lack of seriousness that is surrounding these conversations, the whole 'will I-won't I' playing games is not helpful to this larger conversation. … These are people's lives on the line.' The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The first-term governor has been sharpening his critiques of the Trump administration after previously saying he was 'not the leader of the resistance.' Moore had previously railed against the Trump administration's issuing pink slips to federal workers and said those moves posed a threat to the nation's national security and global competitiveness. Moore's comments come as the nation is observing Juneteenth, a federal holiday that marks the official end of slavery in the nation and a day where the governor unveiled a series of actions, including one that makes some 7,000 people convicted for simple cannabis possession eligible for pardon. The nation's only Black governor, who is up for reelection in 2026, has been criticized by some in his party over a decision to veto a reparation's bill passed by Maryland's Democratic-controlled state Legislature. The measure called for a yearslong study of race-based inequality in the state. Recently, Moore has been raising his national profile ahead of a potential bid for the White House — even as he continues to publicly deny he's running. He was in early primary state South Carolina last month delivering a brief speech at Rep. Jim Clyburn's annual fish fry, and also served as the keynote speaker at a South Carolina Democratic Party dinner and fundraiser — both must-attend events for Democratic White House hopefuls. In early May, Moore traveled to Pennsylvania, one of the nation's most important swing states, to deliver a commencement address at Lincoln University, a historically Black college, while also appearing on 'The View.' In March, he served as the headliner at the annual Gridiron Club dinner. When asked Thursday whether his time in South Carolina changed his mind about launching a presidential run, he responded: 'The reception was very good. And I'm still not running.'
