La Tablée des Chefs: Manitoban Team Wins the 12th Edition of the National Kitchen Brigades Finals
MONTREAL, June 18, 2025 /CNW/ - The national finals of Kitchen Brigades, an initiative by La Tablée des Chefs, were held on June 8 at the Institut de tourisme et d'hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ) in Montreal. After a hard-fought final round, Gordon Bell High School from Winnipeg, Manitoba, claimed top honours—marking the first time in the program's history that a school outside Quebec has won the title.
During the competition, the five finalist brigades (four from Quebec and one from Manitoba) were challenged to create a main dish featuring three mystery ingredients: Brussel sprouts, white turnips and beef strip loin. Their dishes were then evaluated by a panel of expert judges. The winning team stood out thanks to its exceptional mastery of technical skills, remarkable creativity and strong team spirit.
Hosted by celebrity chef Ricardo, the event featured the special presence of Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk, who came in person to meet and encourage the young participants.
Looking ahead, the Kitchen Brigades international finale will be held in Montreal on June 21 at Sid Lee's bistro. In a friendly culinary face off, Manitoba's winning team will go head-to-head with the champions from La Tablée des Chefs France, composed of students from the Collège Jean Jaurès, in Pantin, a suburb of Paris.

This year, nearly 350 school groups from across Canada took part in the after-school " Kitchen Brigades" program. Among them, only 174 schools entered the competition phase, with just five advancing to the National finals. Throughout the year, participating youth received close to 40 hours of hands-on culinary training, delivered through 24 workshops that combined technical cooking skills with healthy eating education.

CPC awards 18 sport organizations with grants in support of Para sport programming Français
A total of $200,000 to be distributed through 2025-26 Paralympic Sport Development Fund OTTAWA, ON, June 18, 2025 /CNW/ - Eighteen sport organizations across Canada have been awarded 2025-26 Paralympic Sport Development Fund grants for a total of $200,000, the Canadian Paralympic Committee announced Wednesday. The complete list of recipients and their projects can be found HERE. Grants varying from $5,000 to $20,000, funded through the Paralympic Foundation of Canada, are being provided to support specific initiatives that contribute to athlete and coach development along the Paralympic pathway, including in areas related to recruitment, coaching, competition, club development, training camps, or other programming that enhances capacity. The recipient organizations are located across seven provinces, with four of the supported programs serving multiple regions throughout the country. The grants will enhance the development and programming of 14 sports, including two multi-sport initiatives. Two sports have received grants for the first time – Para climbing, which has been added to the Paralympic program for LA 2028, and five-a-side football. CPC is also supporting specific inclusion initiatives aimed at engaging more people with a disability in Para sport through increasing opportunities for under-represented groups. Two of these programs have been funded for 2025-26, supporting the increase of women and girls playing wheelchair tennis and creating a Para sport framework focusing on the needs of Indigenous communities. NEW YORK, June 18, 2025 /CNW/ -- With just 100 days to go until the world's top golfers tee off at Bethpage Black for the 2025 Ryder Cup, the scale of the operation behind the scenes is coming into sharp focus. At the centre of it is DP World, a Worldwide Partner of the Ryder Cup and the event's Official Logistics Partner. From transporting tonnes of infrastructure and equipment to ensuring teams, media, and fans move seamlessly across the site, staging the Ryder Cup is a logistical feat, like DP World's role in keeping global trade moving. Adding complexity, this year's event also includes activations in downtown Manhattan, extending the Ryder Cup's presence into the heart of the city. As for DP World's role? Their global expertise is key. "From moving equipment up from Quail Hollow post-PGA Championship to supporting seamless delivery, DP World helps ensure the right assets are in the right place at the right time," said Karns. Few fans realize the Ryder Cup unfolds in a residential area. The local community's patience and support are vital to its success.
