Selangor targets 70,000 visitors for Youth Day celebration

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is optimistic of attracting 70,000 visitors, particularly youths, to the state-level National Youth Day (HBN) 2025 celebration scheduled for May.
State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said the two-day celebration from May 17, adopting a festival concept at KSL Esplanade Mall in Klang, promised a unique experience.
He said to enliven the HBN festivities, district-level programmes would be held simultaneously across nine districts in Selangor on May 15.
'Carrying the theme 'Yakin Boleh' (Believe We Can), the HBN celebration begins at the district level before culminating in a festival-style event on May 17 and 18 at KSL Esplanade Mall, Klang.
'This year's highlights include 13 main segments for visitors, such as food and beverage, fashion, sports, and career carnivals,' he told a press conference here today.
Mohd Najwan said Klang was chosen as this year's host for the Selangor-level HBN celebration.
'The celebration will be officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who will also present the Selangor-level National Premier Youth Award (APBN),' he added.

PUTRAJAYA, June 17 — Singer Naim Daniel pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to a charge of committing sexual assault against a 17-year-old girl at a hotel in May. Naim Daniel, whose full name is Muhammad Naim Daniel Baharin, 28, entered the plea after the charge was read before Judge Datin M Kunasundary in a closed-door proceeding. Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Izzah Shaharuddin appeared for the prosecution, while Naim Daniel was represented by counsels Mohd Irwan Sumadi and Datuk Amirul Ridzuan Hanif. The court subsequently allowed bail at RM12,000 with one surety and ordered the accused to surrender his passport to the court. The case has been fixed for mention on August 18. Cops hand over probe into actor's alleged assault of teen fan to prosecutors

SHAH ALAM, June 13 — The investigation paper (IP) involving a popular male actor and singer, accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl, has been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's (DPP) Office for further action. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that the police are now awaiting a response from the DPP, before proceeding with further legal action. 'The investigation paper has been completed and submitted. We are now awaiting further instructions for the case, which is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792),' he said, at a press conference, here, today. Commenting further, Hussein said that investigations found that the victim and the suspect had met on two occasions prior to the incident, during celebrity events or concerts. 'We believe that the victim is indeed a fan of the actor. Their acquaintance began through encounters at event venues.' Hussein added that the incident came to light after the victim's mother lodged a police report. National Youth Day celebration to showcase elements of Asean

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Youth Day (HBN) celebration on June 13-15 will be unique as it will showcase elements of Asean, in line with Malaysia's Chairmanship of Asean 2025. The HBN secretariat said the programme for the celebration at Dataran Merdeka includes the Asean Pavillion and Asean Concert to create the spirit of the Asean community and strengthen the culture of Asean countries among the youth. "The role of youth is seen as vital to strengthening Asean's regional network, particularly future collaborations in the fields of economy, leadership, education, technological innovation and social. In fact, youth can also act as junior ambassadors who can elevate the country's image globally,' it said in a statement. Themed "Yakin Boleh' (Believe You Can), the highlight of the 61st HBN celebration will be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who will officiate the event and present the 2025 National Premier Youth Award (APBN) on June 14. "The theme illustrates the confidence, capability and competitiveness of the youth in facing challenges, including that of the current digital era. This theme also aligns with the Madani government's efforts to empower youths through various strategic initiatives as well as the values of confidence within the Madani framework,' it added. With the targeted presence of 4 million visitors, the Youth and Sports Ministry, through the National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN), has activated the HBN celebration at the grassroots level by implementing the Semarak HBN initiative in 113 districts nationwide since May 15. At the national level, the Semarak HBN initiative has been further enlivened by the inclusion of the National Youth Convention; eSports games and activities; career and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) carnivals; as well as programmes on fitness, leadership, arts, music and culture and awareness of mental health and cyberbullying. Other programmes include the Suara Belia (Voice of the Youth) podcast; the recitation of the Malaysian Youth Pledge at various levels; the 2025 HBN Special Islamic Affairs Premier Forum; and the implementation of Special Friday sermons nationwide through the collaboration of the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) and State Islamic Religious departments. "Conceptualised as a festival and based on 15 segments/ports, it is an initiative with a 'youth for youth' approach that is designed to meet the needs and wants of today's youth.
