National Youth Day celebration to showcase elements of Asean
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Youth Day (HBN) celebration on June 13-15 will be unique as it will showcase elements of Asean, in line with Malaysia's Chairmanship of Asean 2025.
The HBN secretariat said the programme for the celebration at Dataran Merdeka includes the Asean Pavillion and Asean Concert to create the spirit of the Asean community and strengthen the culture of Asean countries among the youth.
"The role of youth is seen as vital to strengthening Asean's regional network, particularly future collaborations in the fields of economy, leadership, education, technological innovation and social. In fact, youth can also act as junior ambassadors who can elevate the country's image globally,' it said in a statement.
Themed "Yakin Boleh' (Believe You Can), the highlight of the 61st HBN celebration will be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who will officiate the event and present the 2025 National Premier Youth Award (APBN) on June 14.
"The theme illustrates the confidence, capability and competitiveness of the youth in facing challenges, including that of the current digital era. This theme also aligns with the Madani government's efforts to empower youths through various strategic initiatives as well as the values of confidence within the Madani framework,' it added.
With the targeted presence of 4 million visitors, the Youth and Sports Ministry, through the National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN), has activated the HBN celebration at the grassroots level by implementing the Semarak HBN initiative in 113 districts nationwide since May 15.
At the national level, the Semarak HBN initiative has been further enlivened by the inclusion of the National Youth Convention; eSports games and activities; career and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) carnivals; as well as programmes on fitness, leadership, arts, music and culture and awareness of mental health and cyberbullying.
Other programmes include the Suara Belia (Voice of the Youth) podcast; the recitation of the Malaysian Youth Pledge at various levels; the 2025 HBN Special Islamic Affairs Premier Forum; and the implementation of Special Friday sermons nationwide through the collaboration of the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) and State Islamic Religious departments.
"Conceptualised as a festival and based on 15 segments/ports, it is an initiative with a 'youth for youth' approach that is designed to meet the needs and wants of today's youth. This structured programme is also based on the 10 elements of the Rakan Muda lifestyle,' the HBN secretariat added.- Bernama

Anwar honours outgoing IGP and RMAF chief in farewell meetings
KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his appreciation to former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain for his service, contributions, and leadership during his tenure heading the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). In a Facebook post today, Anwar stated that he conveyed this during a farewell courtesy call from Razarudin this morning. 'I pray that Tan Sri Razarudin continues to be blessed with good health and the strength to continue contributing to the nation in any capacity. Thank you for your very meaningful service to the people and the country,' he said. Razarudin, who joined PDRM in 1982, was appointed as the 14th IGP for a two-year contract after his retirement, effective June 23, 2023, and will conclude his service this Sunday. Throughout his career, Razarudin held several important positions, including Head of Penang Criminal Investigation Department in 2016, Deputy Commissioner of Sabah Police (2016), Deputy Chief Police Officer of Perak (2018), Chief Police Officer of Perak (2019), Director of Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (2020), and Deputy Inspector-General of Police (2021). Earlier, Bukit Aman Special Branch Director Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail was appointed as the 15th IGP, replacing Razarudin, effective today. Meanwhile, in a separate post, Anwar also stated that he had received a farewell courtesy call from the Chief of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan, who will retire on June 26. 'My highest appreciation for all his sacrifices, services, and excellent leadership in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM). I pray that Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan will be blessed with prolonged good health and that the spirit of patriotism he displayed throughout his service will inspire the next generation to continue serving and defending our beloved homeland,' he said. Saifuddin Nasution heads list of 1,015 honoured in Sabah governor's 74th birthday, Fuziah to also get ‘Datuk'
KOTA KINABALU, June 21 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail heads a list of 1,015 recipients of state honours in conjunction with the 74th official birthday of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman. Saifuddin Nasution was conferred the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Panglima'. Also receiving the SPDK were Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim, as well as businessmen Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali and Datuk Lim Yu Ming. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Deputy Minister Dr Fuziah Salleh and Tourism, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan were among the 78 recipients of the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) award, which carries the title of 'Datuk'. Other PGDK recipients include Senator Anna Bell @ Suzieana Perian, Labuan MP Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang, and Pantai Manis assemblyman Mohd Tamin Zainal. A-GC denies flawed prosecution in Najib's second SRC case
KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has dismissed as baseless allegations that it carried out a 'flawed prosecution' in the second SRC International Sdn Bhd case involving Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. In a statement, the AGC reiterated its firm commitment to upholding the rule of law and stated that it would continue to fulfill its responsibilities under the Federal Constitution with integrity, fairness and respect for the judicial process. However, the AGC acknowledged the decision by High Court Judge K Muniandy to grant Najib a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) on three charges of money laundering involving RM27 million in funds from the company. 'The case was registered in the High Court on Feb 7, 2019, and scheduled for trial on five occasions: June 2020, July to August 2021, March to April 2022, September 2024 and April to May 2025. 'However, all trial dates were postponed due to the Movement Control Order caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, requests by the defence, or applications by the prosecution itself,' the statement read. According to the statement, the prosecution's requests for postponement were due to the ongoing trial of the first SRC case, which proceeded at the High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court until its completion on March 31, 2023. At the same time, the trial proceedings for the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case had also begun while the first SRC case was still ongoing. 'Both cases involved overlapping material documents required for the second SRC trial. 'As these documents were critical to the second SRC case, the prosecution had no choice but to wait until they were available, which was until the 1MDB trial proceedings were completed. 'It must be emphasised that the material documents are available but are currently being used as evidence in the ongoing 1MDB trial,' the AGC said. The AGC further stated that the prosecution had requested additional time to gather all relevant material documents to be presented as evidence in the second SRC trial. 'This delay was not intentional but was to ensure the integrity of the documents as evidence in the trial is preserved,' the statement read. Earlier today, Judge Muniandy, in granting Najib a DNAA on the three charges, stated that the case had been pending for six years since 2019, without any witness testimony being presented, having faced multiple postponements, which indicated that the prosecution was not ready to proceed with the trial. On Feb 3, 2019, Najib claimed trial to three charges of money laundering by accepting illegal proceeds amounting to RM27 million through his three AmPrivate Banking accounts at AmIslamic Bank Berhad, AmBank Group Building, Jalan Raja Chulan on July 8, 2014. The former Pekan MP was charged under Section 4 (1) (a) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001, which is punishable by a maximum fine of RM5 million or imprisonment of up to five years, or both upon conviction. Najib is currently serving a jail term in Kajang Prison for the misappropriation of RM42 million in the SRC International funds case. On Sept 2, 2022, he filed a petition for a royal pardon, which led to the Pardons Board halving his jail term from 12 to six years and reducing the fine from RM210 million to RM50 million on Jan 29, 2024.
