When companies are under pressure to do more with less, managing spend becomes a top priority. Ramp, a financial operations platform, is part of a growing number of tools designed to automate that process by streamlining payments, cutting costs, and freeing up finance teams to focus on strategy instead of spreadsheets.
Since its launch six years ago, Ramp has become one of the fastest-growing players in the space. It now serves more than 30,000 U.S. companies, ranging from startups like Olipop to large enterprises like CBRE and ZipRecruiter. The company issues credit cards and automates expenses and accounting. It makes money from credit card interchange fees and software subscriptions.
"Our core value proposition is helping businesses achieve more with less and spend less, which went from a-nice-to-have to truly the difference between whether you would exist or not in 2022 and 2023," CEO Eric Glyman told CNBC in March.
At a time when others in Silicon Valley have had to cut back, Ramp has managed to raise more money. In March, the company secured a $150 million secondary deal led by Khosla Ventures, Thrive Capital and General Catalyst that valued the company at $13 billion.
The spend management space has also become more crowded with players like Brex, Navan, Expensify, Mesh Payments, Airbase and Center fighting for market share all while competing against legacy players such as American Express, SAP Concur and Bill.com. Ramp's new additions will be critical to its continued growth.
Over the past year, Ramp has doubled down on its focus on enterprise companies and added new features. In January, it launched Ramp Treasury, which allows companies to earn 2.5% on idle operating cash. It also acquired Venue, an AI-powered procurement software startup, and used it to roll out new vendor payment tools. In June, it debuted Ramp Travel, partnering with Priceline to use AI and automation to streamline and simplify the process of booking and managing expenses for corporate travel, moving into a space squarely in the sights of fellow Disruptor Navan. Other product launches include App Center, which deepened integrations with popular enterprise tools like Microsoft Dynamics, Workday, and QuickBooks Desktop.
Internally, Ramp promoted two executives to top roles, naming Will Petrie to CFO and Geoff Charles to chief product officer. It also opened a new San Francisco office to expand its talent base. Ramp now employs more than 1,000 people.

Fizz, fizz: Spindrift gets back into the soda biz
Now, as the seltzer category loses its fizz and 'better-for-you' sodas have become all the buzz, Spindrift is back in the supermarket soda section. In March, the company, now based in Newton, unveiled plans to roll out five soda flavors — in cans instead of bottles this time — to stores over the spring and summer. John Tlumacki/Globe Staff Advertisement With flavors like the Shirley Temple (cherry) and Concord Freeze (grape), the sodas are sweetened with actual fruit juice, making up roughly 20 percent of the drink, and don't contain any added sugars. That means fewer calories — around 40 for a 12-ounce can, rather than the 150 range found in mass-market sodas — though also a higher price point. Twelve-packs sell for around $25, two to four times the typical cost of a 12-pack of Coke. And they're generally more tart-tasting than the first iteration of Spindrift sodas, which used cane sugar. Advertisement 'We believe our product has a little sweetness, a little sour,' Creelman said. 'You don't miss the sugar. ... The challenge was, can you create the intensity without adding a bunch of junk to it?' Creelman's soda rollout came less than a month after he Creelman and Burwick first got to know each other around 10 years ago, when Burwick was leading Peet's Coffee. They shared an affinity for Boston, and for what Creelman calls 'this crazy beverage business.' Burwick retired from Boston Beer a year ago after about six years leading the craft brewer. Burwick sees a similar opportunity in soft drinks to what his former boss, Boston Beer chairman Jim Koch, saw in beer in the 1980s: a market for a premium beverage that people will pay more money for. Just last month, Burwick's old employer, For Spindrift, the timing couldn't be better, said Gary Hemphill, managing director of Beverage Marketing Corp. Advertisement 'Consumers have shown they're open to 'better-for-you' sodas,' he said. 'It's a really great way to broaden the brand and the trademark, and grow their sales.' Today, Spindrift employs about 200 people, Spindrift has engendered a certain amount of loyalty over the years among natural foods sellers, such as E.N. May, a manager with the Healthy Living group of three stores in Vermont and upstate New York. May said he thought it was smart for Spindrift to get back into the soda business. As soon as he heard the news, he said, he knew it was a great idea. And as he expected, Healthy Living shoppers have warmed to the new Spindrift soda, with the Shirley Temple flavor a favorite among them. US hotels lose ground to short-term rental boom
The latest CBRE US Hotels State of the Union report reveals a modest recovery in hotel performance amid shifting economic conditions and rising competition from short‑term rentals. CBRE trimmed its growth forecasts for 2025 and 2026 by approximately 0.5 percentage points, citing persisting consumer price pressures. While employment expanded by 1.5% in April and wages rose by 3.8%—still above inflation—unemployment edged up to 4.2% and job openings per candidate declined. These mixed indicators suggest households may sustain summer travel to some extent, but hotel profitability remains under threat as costs continue to escalate. When adjusted for the timing of Easter, revenue per available room (RevPAR) rose a modest 0.4% in March and April, supported by a 1.5% increase in average daily rate (ADR) despite a 1.1% dip in occupancy. Upscale properties led the field with a 2.9% RevPAR uplift, though half of U.S. markets underperformed.
