140 migrants rescued from illegal detention in Musaid

Libyan criminal investigators have freed 140 undocumented migrants from three clandestine warehouses during a late‑Thursday operation, local authorities report. The rescued individuals—citizens of Egypt, Sudan, and Somalia—were reportedly held in dire conditions. According to a statement from the Criminal Investigation Unit in Musaid, the detainees endured torture and harsh treatment intended to extort money from their families, and were deprived of food altogether for four days. Law enforcement agents have arrested those responsible, sealed off the detention sites and transferred the migrants to their custody. Authorities say the individuals have received emergency medical treatment and nutritional support.

Tripoli Port: Customs seize 36,000 cans of banned alcohol

The customs authorities have announced the seizure of a 20‑foot container carrying 36,430 cans of banned alcoholic drinks, each with a capacity of 500ml. The Customs Authority said the contraband was uncovered by its Anti‑Smuggling and Narcotics team in Tripoli, working in collaboration with colleagues at Tripoli Seaport. The container was part of a shipment of ten units imported by a local company, which had declared the goods as 'barley drinks' in its customs statement. The Anti‑Corruption Prosecution conducted further investigations, opening and inspecting all ten containers. The inspection revealed that one container had been imported from a European country under a documentary credit, in clear breach of Libya's customs laws and regulations.
