Cyclists tackles mountains to get to Glastonbury Festival from Spain

For most of us, getting to Glastonbury Festival usually involves a choice between gridlock traffic in a car, a crowded coach or a ram-packed train. But 25-year-old Ollie White has avoided all three by deciding to cycle – from Madrid in Spain. Over the course of nearly a month he has crossed "desert-like landscapes, a mountain range and hundreds of kilometres of coastline", and has documented every day in TikTok and Instagram videos edited in his tent. "A lot of people think I'm crazy for doing this but for me it doesn't seem too crazy," he told the BBC. "It's just a challenge I've set myself and, at the end of the day, once you've done all the preparation, you just have to get on the bike each day and do the kilometres," he spent the past three years living in Spain and working as a content creator for La Liga, the highest level of Spanish football, Mr White's journey to Glastonbury is part of a longer adventure home to Sligo on Ireland's west coast. Having walked part of the Camino de Santiago in 2024 to reach a festival in Bilbao, Mr White said the decision to take the long route had been as simple as "I have a ticket for Glastonbury, so why not cycle?" "It's been absolutely incredible to be honest, everything has been really positive," he said, adding that most of his journey had been focused on taking in nature having spent three years living in cities. In addition to covering up to 100km each day, Mr White has filmed and uploaded daily videos documenting his journey online, amassing tens of thousands of views. "As much as I love football, travel and adventure is really the thing I'm most passionate about, so it's been really nice to take the skills I developed in my day job over the past two years and put all that energy into this new style of video," he said. "Sometimes I'm in my tent in the middle of a forest while camping and I'm trying to put the videos together and add the subtitles, stuff like that, so it is challenging," he added. "Hopefully it'll be worth it in the end and, if anything, I just have the memories of this trip for the rest of my life." As for the festival itself, Mr White said he was most looking forward to catching Neil Young, Loyle Carner, Kneecap and Caribou, as well as acts from his childhood such as Scissor Sisters and Kaiser Chiefs. "In terms of the headliners, Neil Young will be the one I'm looking forward to most... when I'm cycling through lovely fields and desert-like landscapes he's been a really good soundtrack." After more than three weeks of cycling through Spain and France, Mr White crossed from Roscoff to Plymouth by ferry on Sunday and is planning to touch down in Glastonbury by Tuesday. "It's just one pedal after the other and hope for the best – that's served me well so far," he said.

Leave Me Alone

Located at the edge of trendy Shimokitazawa, Leave Me Alone is a space of esoteric contradiction. The softly lit venue is sparsely yet tastefully decorated, with a custom smiling flower portrait from the iconic Takashi Murakami, plus dolls created by Mr., the noted Kaikai Kiki artist. The venue is the latest venture from corporate-bigwig-turned-bar-owner Hirohisa Tamonoki. The forty-something former tech VIP from Akita prefecture opened the bar at the end of 2024, finally fulfilling 'a dream he'd left behind' after decades in the corporate world. A self-proclaimed introvert, Tamonoki aimed to create a space for people like himself who never quite fit in. He also wants to attract individuals with a passion for the music genre that reigns supreme at his bar: noise. From the disorienting percussive sounds of Japanese noise legend Merzbow to the abrasive vocals of American experimental rock band Swans, you'll get your fill of sonic brutality through track after track of harsh noise, industrial noise, noise rock and so on. The harshness of the bar's soundtrack is in contrast to the intimate nature of the space, but somehow it works. 'It's not for everybody,' says Tamonoki. 'But if you get it, you get it.' The bar's drink options are less eclectic (but no less tasty), and feature various kinds of whiskey and gin – think classics like Hakushu, Hibiki, Sakurao and Kanomori. A speciality cocktail menu is in the works and currently features mezcal negronis and seasonal fruit gin and tonics. Invitations to Leave Me Alone are strictly through DM only. If noise music is your thing and you're thinking of stopping by, request the location by contacting the bar via Instagram @leave_me_alone_bar.

Lana del Rey celebrates birthday with alligator tour guide hubby… as she teams up with surprise singer for tour

Singer Lana del Rey celebrated her 40th birthday over the weekend, with her husband Jeremy Dufrene and a few in-laws. The Summertime Sadness singer shared new snaps on her Instagram on Saturday, one of which showed her holding a pair of white cakes, surrounded by Dufrene and several in-laws, weeks after her subtle tribute to Dufrene at the 2025 Met Gala. She was wearing a strapless camo top and matching shorts with white knee-high socks and shoes in the first snap. Her husband Dufrene was behind her, donning a Ford trucker's cap, a matching camo shirt, green shorts and white sneakers. She was surrounded by a number of unnamed in-laws in the post, one of whom she seemingly shares a birthday with. The singer also took to Instagram over the weekend to reveal some of the opening acts on her upcoming tour, including actress/singer Addison Rae. 'Just a couple in-laws and a baby. Thank you for sharing your birthday with me cancer queen Phoenix,' she began. 'I'm still convinced I gotta be 50/50 Gemini tho, that would explain all three Lil vibes I got going on all the time,' she added. 'So excited to see everybody starting tomorrow on tour and for all the folks joining us. Truly thank you thank you love you,' she concluded. Del Ray also shared another snap of her in the passenger seat of a vehicle, with a gold bracelet visible on her left wrist., which didn't include a caption. She also took to Instagram to announce three opening acts for her UK and Ireland Tour. Del Rey will be joined by the group London Grammar for her June 23 show at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, UK. She will be joined by Banks during a trio of shows in Glasgow at Hamden Park on June 26, Liverpool at Anfield Stadium on June 28 and Dublin, Ireland at Aviva Stadium on June 30. For her final two shows, she'll be joined by Addison Rae on July 3 and 4 for a pair of shows at London's iconic Wembley Stadium. Lana and Jeremy exchanged vows by the water in Des Allemandes, Louisiana, last year at the same bayou where he operates his popular swamp tours. Lana first shared a photo with Jeremy after taking one of his tours from Arthur's Airboat Tours in Des Allemands, Louisiana back in 2019. After their initial meeting, they reconnected earlier in 2024 before tying the knot in late September last year in what sources described as a 'whirlwind' romance. 'It's been kind of a whirlwind romance, but Lana's close friends hoped she would get married,' the source said. 'Jeremy is different from the men that Lana meets in the entertainment world. He's a great guy,' the source added. 'He's charming and charismatic in a Southern way, very much a gentleman and he treats Lana really well. She's an old soul,' the source continued.
