One of the best bars in Bangkok is popping up in Chicago for one night only

Time Out22-04-2025

Chicago is already home to some of the best bars in North America, but we'll never turn down the opportunity for an international cocktail stunner to come grace the Windy City. And one of the world's best drinking dens—literally— will do just that next month: on Monday, May 5, Vesper will head to Chicago by way of Bangkok for an epic takeover and collaboration at Hawksmoor Chicago inside the historic LaSalle Powerhouse building in River North.
The globally acclaimed Thai bar was recognized as one of the World's 50 Best Bars in 2024 and was featured on Asia's 50 Best Bars list nine years consecutively, coming in at number 13 just last year.
"This is pretty much the ideal date bar: it's chic but not austere, the drinks are strong and if conversation runs dry the menu will provide the perfect talking point," the World's 50 Best write-up praised the Bangkok bar, which opened in the city's Silom area back in 2014.
Vesper's current cocktail lead Tom Hearn (formerly at the American Bar at the Savoy and KOL Mezcaleria in London) will join forces with Hawksmoor Chicago's Zach Ballard to showcase a specially curated menu of Vesper's wildly inventive cocktails that helped them earn the reputation as one of the most exciting bars on the globe. The open-to-the-public event will run from 6pm to 9pm on May 5.
On the menu will be the Beehave (made with gin, lychee liqueur, lychee honey, soda and jasmine); A Samurai Walks into the Sunset (with tequila, Talker 10, Campari, dry vermouth, crème de cacao blanc and shio koji); and the Greenball, a strong spirit-forward drink that makes use of tequila, absinthe, mezcal and sour apple liqueur; as well as the bar's namesake Vesper (Tanqueray gin, Ketel One vodka, Cocchi Americano and orange bitters). Cocktails will be available a la carte, with prices ranging from $12 to $14 per drink.

Two London restaurants have been named in the 50 best in the world

Every year, the prestigious World's 50 Best holds a ceremony to crown the 50 very best restaurants on the planet. Earlier this month the extended list (from 51 to 100) was revealed, and two London restos featured. Now the top 50 has been unveiled at an awards ceremony in Turin. Now in its 23rd year, the 2025 list comprises eateries from 32 cities and 22 countries, with 10 new entries and four re-entries. In the ranking, two London restaurants were crowned as one of the world's 50 best in 2025. High-end Mexican restaurant Kol came in 49th place. The Michelin-starred spot in Marylebone is known for its impeccable presentation, and for making Mexican dishes with British ingredients. Helmed by ex-Noma and Noma Mexico chef Santiago Lastra, some of Kol's best-renowned dishes include a langoustine taco, and a whole grilled octopus with bone marrow. The other London restaurant to make the list was Ikoyi, coming in 15th place. According to the World's 50 Best, co-founders Jeremy Chan and Iré Hassan-Odukale have 'created a culinary style that defies categorisation'. The swish joint on the Strand blends West African and Asian spices with British vegetables, meat and fish to create a unique blind tasting menu. Stand out dishes include a refined take on jollof rice and the plantain dish, which has taken on different iterations over the years. When Time Out visited Ikoyi when it opened in 2017, we called it 'a thrilling anomaly even in London's diverse food scene'. Check out the full list on the World's 50 Best website here.

World's 50 Best Restaurants 2025: Here are the 14 Asian Entries

In March, we reported on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2025, which includes culinary giants like Gaggan (Bangkok), Wing (Hong Kong), and Odette (Singapore). But how do these restaurants stack up against other prestigious venues worldwide? Well, we now have an answer. On Thursday (Jun 19), the cream of the culinary crop gathered in Turin, Region of Piedmont, Italy for the unveiling of The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2025. Top honours went to Maido, a restaurant run by chef-owner Mitsuharu 'Micha' Tsumaru, which has been serving up some of the finest Nikkei cuisine in Peru (and the world) for 15 years now. Out of the 50 laureates, 14 restaurants from Asia were recognised – the region's top dog being (who else?), Gaggan from Bangkok, slotting in at No. 6 on the global list. Many of the entrants in the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list are also represented, including Tokyo's Sézanne at No. 7, Hong Kong's Wing at No. 11, and Seoul's Mingles at No. 29. In a stunning debut on the global list, Bangkok's Potong slides in at No. 13, bagging it the Highest New Entry Award. Congratulations to its fellow Bangkokian, Nusara, for also making its debut, at No. 35. Having said that, we'd recommend a trip to the Thai capital if you'd like to try as many restaurants on the list as possible – the city has six entrants, the most of any Asian city. And talk about comebacks – two restaurants from Japan made a triumphant re-entry this year. They are Narisawa from Tokyo at No. 21 and La Cime from Osaka at No. 44. Check out the full World's 50 Best Restaurants list here. Bangkok finds itself front and centre on the second phase of his Ubermensch world tour. G-Dragon, the soloist and style icon of K-pop powerhouse BigBang, is known for his rap flow and kaleidoscopic fashion sense. But just as the buzz began to settle, he lit the fuse once more. This time on a global scale with the announcement of his world tour. When is G-Dragon's world tour in Bangkok? Though the poster states that G-Dragon will take over Rajamangala National stadium for one night on August 2 2025, he confirmed on his Instagram that the show will actually span one more night, extending to August 3. Exact times and ticketing details are expected to drop soon. Setlist The official setlist has yet to be confirmed, fans are already deep in speculation mode.
