Couples tie the knot during a festival on an Amsterdam ring road

Securing a coveted slot to exchange wedding rings on Amsterdam's usually traffic-choked ring road seemed like a good omen for Zuzanna Lisowska and Yuri Iozzelli's future life together.
'It just seemed like super fun idea,' Ms Lisowska said. 'And, you know, statistics were on our side. There were 400 couples who wanted to do it, so we feel really lucky to have been chosen.'
Friends and total strangers cheered and clapped as they told each other 'I do' as part of a day-long festival on parts of the A10 highway that circles the Dutch capital closed to traffic for the day.
'It's a nice party we didn't have to organise,' said Mr Iozzelli.
Their only regret was not being able to bring their pet rabbit. 'It was too hot,' Ms Lisowska said after exchanging rings with Mr Iozzelli.
The city that is known for partying said that some 600,000 people tried to get access to the ring road festival last month when more than 200,000 free tickets were made available.
Curious city folk, from parents pushing prams to students and grandparents, stopped to watch the weddings and enjoyed the one-off opportunity to see the road without the usual cacophony of cars.
Among them was communications student Kyra Smit.
'It's really fun because it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing,' she said. 'It's so fun that you can say to people, wow, I'm married on the rings, so I really like this.'
The day was packed with events from music performances to readings, meet-ups and a fun run, shortened because of the heat. Organisers even placed a temporary forest of more than 8,000 trees on the tarmac.
The municipality laid on extra water taps and places where revellers could slap on sun block as temperatures soared to 30C and upwards on the road surface.
The city's official birthday is October 27, reflecting the first time a variant of its name was used in an official document, and is staging celebratory events in the year leading up to that date.
The festival on the ring road is the biggest so far and gave Amsterdam residents a new view of their ring road.
'It's quite strange because normally you drive here and now you're walking, so that's a totally different situation,' said Marjolein de Bruijne, who works close to the A10.

Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge return to luxe wedding venue after blasting cheating claims

Fun in the sun. Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge returned to their luxe French wedding venue after blasting rumors that the British record producer allegedly cheated on the model. Richie and Grainge, along with their 1-year-old daughter, Eloise, traveled to the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc in Antibes, France — the same location where the couple tied the knot in April 2023. On Wednesday, Richie, 26, posted a carousel of images from their vacation to Instagram. In one photo, the youngest child of music legend Lionel Richie took a selfie as she lounged on a beach chair in a blue bandeau top. In another snap, Sofia posted an image of her mom, Diane Richie, holding Eloise as they looked out at the ocean. The mom of one also shared a photo she took of her husband, who posed on the stairs of the famed hotel. ' ,' Sofia simply captioned the post. The family vacation comes as the couple addressed 'mean' comments about their marriage — including rumors that Grainge, 31, had an affair. In a TikTok video posted on June 5, Sofia recorded her reactions as the CEO of Atlantic Records read off different comments. One remark stated, 'That? Cheating on her?' referring to Grainge, who responded, 'What am I, Shrek?' Another comment read: 'She should divorce him and take his child support money,'' which prompted Sofia to laugh. 'I had to break it to my husband that he's not the peoples princess,' she captioned the post. Sofia and Grainge exchanged vows at the French hotel two years ago in front of celebrity family and friends, including Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton and Cameron Diaz. The bride wore a custom Chanel wedding dress that featured an embellished train with white and iridescent beads, while the groom rocked a classic black tux. Sofia was walked down the aisle by her father, Lionel, 75. The couple welcomed their daughter, Eloise, in May 2024.

Why Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom's Love Story Might Not Be Over Yet

Even though all eyes are expected to be on Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez next weekend for their Venice, Italy wedding, the guest list is also sure to cause a stir. TMZ already confirmed that Orlando Bloom will be attending the nuptials without Katy Perry, but for good reason — she had pre-booked concert dates in Australia. Still, fans are curious as to where their relationship stands after rumors of behind-the-scenes troubles surfaced in early June. But now, there might be some hope on the horizon for the longtime couple. More from SheKnows Orlando Bloom Reportedly Said What Everyone Else Was Thinking About Katy Perry's Blue Origin Flight A source confirmed to the Daily Mail that 'the rumors of a rough patch are true,' but they also offered more positive news: 'It's not at the point of no return.' The current strain is more situational since Perry is busy on The Lifetimes Tour and currently on an international leg. 'They haven't been able to sit down and work on some of their issues,' the insider added. 'A breakup isn't imminent, but they both know that they should focus on their relationship before it does become too late.' People magazine was the first to report that the 40-year-old pop star was 'deeply frustrated' by the criticism surrounding her album, 143, and 'it made her very stressed.' The disappointing sales caused 'some tension' between her and her 48-year-old fiancé. The pile-on only got worse when her tour wasn't well received, and her career wasn't taking off in the way she had hoped after her American Idol exit. Neither Bloom nor Perry have addressed the relationship issues publicly, but the 'Teenage Dream' singer did take issue with some of the online hate in a comment on her April 29 Instagram post. 'When the 'online' world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, because I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed,' she wrote. The dynamic duo met at a Golden Globes afterparty in January 2016. Their relationship has weathered through several on-again, off-again moments, solidly landing on an engagement in February 2019. Riverside is bringing new playfulness to river cruising

ABOARD THE RIVERSIDE DEBUSSY -- Looking around this ship, what struck me most was how much fun people were having. The guests. The crew. The CEO. It felt more like a reunion than people meeting for the first time. My traveling partner noticed it, too, commenting that it seemed like everyone genuinely enjoyed being together. During an eight-day Rhine river cruise last month from Amsterdam to Basel, Riverside Luxury Cruises CEO Jennifer Halboth credited that fun to what she calls the crew's creative and understated approach to delivering luxury service. It was something I noticed throughout the sailing: running jokes shared between guests and crew; a singer's infectious attitude that practically forced us out of our seats and onto the dance floor; and when a bartender let my friend and me hop behind the bar for an impromptu lesson on how to make the perfect whiskey sour. Halboth said she wants the staff's personalities and creativity to be on display during Riverside sailings. The line also aims to "deliver the best, but obviously in a really kind of understated, not stuffy, authentic way," Halboth said. "We've got this standard we want to deliver, but I find when the ship is doing its best is when every crew member gets to be their authentic self when they are meeting the authentic selves of our guests," she said. "You don't want to feel like you're talking to the same person every time. They have their own story, and their story starts to pull out your story." Riverside's Debussy sailing the Rhine. Photo Credit: Riverside Luxury Cruises What that translates to is a crew that brings a spark of fun and playfulness to the Riverside experience. One crew member left such an impression on a guest that they coordinated for a surprise piece of cake to be delivered during a wine tasting to celebrate the crew member's birthday. Executive chef Simeon Petkov said that under Riverside's management, he has more freedom to tap into his artistic nature in the kitchen. He formerly worked for Crystal Cruises, which owned the Debussy and Riverside's other river cruise vessels, and where he said operations were more corporate. "If you have imagination, and if you're striving to do something, you can really do it," he said. "You can really experiment." That approach lends itself to curating a brand that strives "to be unique in every facet: how we work with the trade, how we cater to guests, onboard," Halboth said. For example, she said, the line aims to connect with travel advisors in personalized ways, like orchestrating a Christmas-in-July event to highlight the brand's holiday market cruises. The line's northeast director -- a sommelier -- hosts wine tastings to demonstrate the line's commitment to cuisine. And despite competing against players that have operated river cruises for decades and with fleets 10 times the size of Riverside's, Halboth said the brand works hard to promote itself to travel advisors, such as by attending trade shows like ASTA River Cruise Expo and offering advisors deals to experience the product. Halboth said that in terms of its hospitality and culinary, Riverside's "front of the house … has really delivered." She is confident about the onboard product and said the brand is focusing on improving the "back-of-house" operations, like its booking engine. Riverside will add two ships to its fleet in 2027 and 2028, the Bach and Mahler, respectively, which are currently chartered by Uniworld. Those vessels will bring Riverside's fleet to five. When asked if more ships are in the plans, Halboth said the line will observe how the 2026 season goes, but she anticipates the brand will be "firing on all cylinders."
