MADANI Workers' Card, a Labour Day gift
KUALA LUMPUR: The MADANI Workers' Card initiative announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the Labour Day celebrations today has been described as a special gift to the workers, with many expressing gratitude for the government's concern.
In MELAKA, clinic assistant Jaszmina Iskandar, 25, described the MADANI Workers' Card as the best gift from the government in helping to ease the increasingly challenging cost of living.
She said the initiative not only boosts workers morale, but also encourages employers to be more transparent in safeguarding the welfare of employees.
'Besides reducing our burden, it also motivates us to continue working with honesty and enthusiasm in the future,' she said.
In PAHANG, private sector employee Hafiza Halimi, 35, said the launch of MADANI Workers' Card is the government's way of showing its appreciation to the workforce, and it can also boost consumer purchasing power while stimulating the country's economic growth.
Meanwhile, in TERENGGANU, the state's Trade Union Affairs Department director Rosli Zakaria said the initiative is a two-pronged strategy, as it would not only ease the workers' burdens but also contribute to the strengthening of the economy for industry players involved in offering discounts.
'To me, it's a win-win situation, workers can enjoy discounts and be more productive, while participating companies benefit from promotions and increased sales,' he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Echoing the sentiment, Selangor Human Resources and Poverty Eradication Committee chairman V. Paparaidu urged both workers and employers to work together in support of the Prime Minister's aspiration to drive national progress.
He stressed the importance of adequate incentives and motivational guidance to ensure that employees remain enthusiastic and loyal, thereby enhancing production quality.
'Commitment from both sides can trigger a domino effect, higher output and quality, increased company revenues and improved national performance,' he said.
Paparaidu also called on employers to re-evaluate fair and equitable rewards to protect the welfare and dignity of their employees.
Earlier, Anwar Ibrahim announced that the MADANI Workers' Card will allow union members to enjoy discounts on a range of services, with participating companies including AEON, Mydin, Jakel, Marrybrown, Genting, OldTown White Coffee, ZUS Coffee, SOCAR and Bateriku.

PUTRAJAYA, June 23 (Bernama) -- The establishment of the Kuala Lumpur (KL) Youth Force, a minimum allowance for industrial trainees, and stricter enforcement on the placement of foreign nationals were among key proposals raised during the inaugural Federal Territories Youth Assembly (Sidang Belia Wilayah Persekutuan – SBWP), which concluded today. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the KL Youth Force aims to support disaster victims in the Federal Territories, particularly in welfare-related crises such as floods and fires. 'Although similar structures already exist, such as Rakan NADMA (National Disaster Management Agency volunteers), the KL Youth Force needs further study. If it involves welfare matters, it must follow proper standard operating procedures (SOPs),' she said. On the proposal for trainee allowances, Dr Zaliha noted that while the government sector already provides such support, the call was to expand this to the private sector. 'Some private companies do provide allowances, but there's no clear policy. I intend to discuss this with Human Resources Minister Steven Sim for further consideration,' she added. She was speaking at a press conference after winding-up session of the three-day assembly, which began on June 21. A total of 15 resolutions were presented, covering areas such as the economy, social development, technology, and legislation. Asked whether the proposals would be brought to higher levels, including Cabinet discussions or the 2026 Budget planning, Dr Zaliha said all approved resolutions would be submitted to the Federal Territories Department (JWP) for follow-up. 'For matters beyond my portfolio under the Ministerial Functions Act 1969 (Amendment 2023), I will refer them to the Cabinet for consideration by the relevant ministers.

Investment Scam Syndicate Busted In Puchong, 10 Held
SERDANG, June 23 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested 10 individuals believed to be involved in a foreign currency investment scam that caused losses amounting to RM399,787, in a raid at a premises in Bandar Puteri, Puchong last Friday. Sepang police chief ACP Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the suspects, comprising seven men and three women aged between 21 and 38, were believed to have assumed various roles, including managers, platform developers, customer service agents and administrators handling company documents. He said initial investigations revealed that the syndicate had been operating for the past six months, targeting both local and foreign victims. 'The syndicate allegedly offered lucrative returns on initial investments to gain victims' trust to continue investing through a self-developed app. 'It operated under two unregistered companies, and police are currently investigating another company believed to have been used to facilitate fund transfers from victims,' he told a press conference today. Muhamad Farid said checks on the application revealed a total of 2,597 individuals believed to have fallen victim to the scam, comprising 2,482 Malaysians, 111 Indonesians and one each from India, Mongolia, South Africa and Bhutan. 'During the raid, police seized three computer monitors, two CPUs, six laptops, 14 mobile phones and a Wi-Fi modem, all believed to have been used in the illegal operations, with a total seizure value estimated at RM45,000,' he said. He said none of the suspects had prior criminal records and all tested negative for drugs. 'The suspects were initially remanded for one day and released on police bail, but have since been re-arrested in connection with a report lodged in Taman Melawati,' he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code and Section 137(1) of the Financial Services Act 2013.

AMESU Signs Historic Six Collective Agreements With Plantation Employers
SHAH ALAM, June 23 (Bernama) -- The All Malayan Estates Staff Union (AMESU) marked a historic milestone today by signing six Collective Agreements (CAs) simultaneously with plantation sector employers. The signing ceremony, which was witnessed by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, involved representatives from the Malayan Agricultural Producers Association (MAPA), IOI Group of Companies, Dara Lam Soon Sdn Bhd, Arah Kawasan Sdn Bhd, HK Gua Musang Sdn Bhd, and YPJ Plantations Sdn Bhd. In his speech, Sim noted that AMESU, established in 1927, is one of the country's oldest trade unions, representing over 5,000 workers, while MAPA serves as the umbrella body for 120 major plantation companies nationwide. 'This ceremony marks an extraordinary achievement in the history of workers' rights, as this is the first time six collective agreements have been successfully signed simultaneously,' he said. He noted that the agreements are expected to boost worker welfare and enhance productivity across the plantation sector. Under the new agreements, all AMESU members will receive salary increases of up to 12 per cent. Interestingly, Sim said the increment is retroactive, effective from Jan 1, which means that workers will also receive backdated payments ranging from RM3,000 to RM10,000, depending on their job grade, years of service, and allowance structure. Furthermore, he said workers covered under the agreements between AMESU, MAPA, and the six plantation firms will no longer be subject to the minimum wage threshold of RM1,700 per month. 'Instead, the agreed salary structure sets a new starting wage at RM1,800 per month, which is higher than the current minimum wage,' he added.
