Panchayat Raj officials survey hilltop hamlet for laying road in Anakapalli district

The engineering officials and staff led by Deputy Executive Engineer (Panchayat Raj Projects), Chintapalli, D. Suresh Reddy and J.E. Kiran, conducted a survey at the hilltop hamlet of Jajulabandha in Arla panchayat of Anakapalli district for the preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for laying of a BT road from Pithrigedda to Jajulabandha.
The officials visited the hamlet after the 'Spotlight' story titled 'Diseases haunt A.P.'s verdant hills' published in The Hinduhighlighted how seasonal diseases are affecting the tribal people and their travails in carrying the sick in dolis in the absence of roads to the hilltop hamlets.
They told the villagers that they would prepare the DPR and cost estimates and submit a proposal for the road work to the government.
'We conducted a Differential Global Positioning Survey (DGPS) survey on June 4. We visited the hamlet trekking from Pithrigedda to Jajulabandha on June 3. We are in the process of preparing the DPR, which will be submitted to the State Technical Adviser (STA) of PM JANMAN in about a week for approval. It will pass through various stages to reach the Empowered Committee. The entire process will take three to six months,' Mr. Suresh Reddy told The Hindu.
'The road from Arla to Pithrigedda was sanctioned under the MGNREGS in December 2024. The work is in progress and is expected to be completed in six months,' he said.
'The government sanctioned ₹1 crore under MGNREGS for laying a road from Arla to Jajulabandha in 2023. The officials built only four culverts and showed in the records that they had spent ₹28 lakh. The tribal people staged protests to highlight the apathy in laying the road, after which the work was stopped,' said K. Govinda Rao, district executive committee member of CPI(M.)

Center to develop nine roads leading to Nashik ahead of Kumbh mela

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said that all roads connecting Nashik will be developed and upgraded in view of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik. A total of nine roads will be developed by the central government ahead of the religious meet in 2027 and as per the preliminary estimate, the work is likely to cost a further Rs 4000 crore. A high-level meeting regarding the highway connecting Nashik was held on Sunday in the presence of Union Road Development Minister Nitin Gadkari at Nagpur. Gadkari extended in-principle approval to the construction of necessary roads and facilities required for the upcoming Kumbh Mela to be held in Nashik as a huge crowd of devotees is expected to arrive, leading to a strain on the traffic system. It was decided that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared soon and funds will be made available for this. The routes to be developed include, Ghoti – Pahine – Trimbakeshwar – Jawhar Phata; Dwarka Circle – Sinnar IC 21 (Samruddhi Expressway) Nandur Shingote – Kolhar; Nashik to Kasara; Savli Vihir (IC 20 Samruddhi Expressway) Shirdi – Shani Shingnapur Phata (Rahuri Khurd); Nashik to Dhule; Trimbakeshwar – Jawhar – Manor; Shadow Well – Manmad – Malegaon; Ghoti – Sinnar – Vavi – Shirdi; Shani Shingnapur Phata (Rahuri Khurd) – Ahilyanagar (Kharwandi Phata).The meeting approved the Nashik Ring Road. Along with this, it was decided to make the Nashik to Trimbak road six-lane. 'The cost will be calculated post preparation of the DPR. But the central government has assured all possible financial help as well,' said an official from the Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD). He added, the estimated Rs 4000 crore is for the construction of roads and additional money will be required for the Nashik ring road project. 'Keeping in view the increasing interest of devotees towards Kumbh Mela and the expected crowd, I had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide assistance at the central government level for its successful planning and enabling infrastructure road development. As a result this meeting was held today,' said Fadnavis. There are eight important routes to Nashik from Mumbai, Gujarat, Palghar, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Sambhajinagar, Dhule. All these routes and the internal roads in Nashik city and the district also connect to the national highway. The meeting considered the development of all those roads. CM Fadnavis said that the expanded road network will provide more safe facilities to the devotees as it will handle the huge traffic expected during the Kumbh Mela.

Telangana govt submits detailed project report for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2 (B); plans 86.1-km expansion across 3 corridors worth Rs 19,579 crore

HYDERABAD: Days after Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy met Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar at his residence in New Delhi and briefed him on the importance of the Phase-2 project, the Telangana govt submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and all required documents for the Phase-2 (B) proposal to the central govt, according to Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited managing director NVS Reddy. The Phase 2 (B) proposal includes three corridors: RGIA to Bharat Future City (Skills University), covering 39.6 km at a cost of Rs 7,168 crore; JBS to Medchal, spanning 24.5 km at Rs 6,946 crore; and JBS to Shamirpet, extending 22 km at Rs 5,465 crore. Similar to the previously submitted Phase 2 (A) project, which comprised five corridors totalling 76.4 km, Phase 2 (B) is also proposed as a joint venture between the central govt and the Telangana govt. According to the central govt's JV norms, funding will comprise Rs 5,874 crore (30%) from the Telangana govt, Rs 3,524 crore (18%) from the central govt, Rs 9,398 crore (48%) in the form of debt from international financial institutions and Rs 783 crore (4%) through a public-private partnership (PPP) component.

Rural road construction, drinking water projects top progress report of A.P. Deputy CM

A total of 1,312 km bituminous roads was laid by the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department (PR&RDD) across 449 roads in the past one year, and a sum of nearly ₹650 crore was spent for the department's engineering works, said Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, who also handles the portfolios of PR&RD Rural Water Supply (RWS); Environment and Forest; and Science and Technology, in his progress report released on June 19 on the occasion of his completing a year in the post. The PR&RDD received ₹590 crore from the Centre during the year. A sum of ₹605.34 crore was being spent on laying 215 roads (measuring nearly 662 km) connecting 258 tribal villages under the PM JanMAN and Panchayat Raj Reforms-Tribal Sub-Plan. These works are in progress and are targeted to be completed in two years. About ₹558 crore was released by NABARD for repairing 1,202 km of pothole-riddled roads. The construction of 4,000 km cement concrete roads has been completed in the rural areas through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). The government, through the MGNREGS, had 78,776 agricultural ponds constructed to meet the water requirement of farmers. Another major initiative taken up under the MGNREGS was the construction of 22,500 Gokulams to protect dairy cattle in villages. One of its objectives was to increase milk production, thereby increasing the income of the farmers. About 3,429 lakh working days were provided to workers through MGNREGS. As for RWS, Mr. Kalyan said foundations were laid for clean drinking water projects in East Godavari, West Godavari, Palnadu, Prakasam and Chittoor districts at ₹7,910 crore, and so far 3,778 projects were completed under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Drinking water tap was provided to 54,352 houses. The protected water scheme in Uddhanam area of Srikakulam district, where Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology has so far killed a large number of people, was completed. A sum of ₹480 crore was spent on providing drinking water in Pulivendula area of Kadapa district alone, he said.
