Yahoo09-04-2025

PROVO, Utah () — The Provo Airport is getting ready to start its next chapter – expanding to include more gates, more space for aircraft, and more opportunities for travel for Utah County residents.
City and airport officials will break ground on a three-year expansion project on Monday, April 14. An open house presenting the Provo Airport Master plan will then be held at 5 p.m. that evening in the airport's view lounge.
The expansion will begin with construction on the airport's apron – an area of the tarmac where aircraft can be parked, boarded, and refueled. This expansion is scheduled to be completed by November 2025.
Next, the current terminal will expand from four gates to have a total of 10 with three new gates on both the north and south sides. Airport officials expect the new terminals to open by late 2028.
'The Provo Airport is more than a runway – it's a runway to the future,' said Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi. 'This expansion positions PVU not just as a regional airport but as a vital part of Utah's growing transportation network – ready to welcome the world, including visitors for the 2034 Winter Olympics.'
The Provo Airport reportedly saw a historic year in 2024 with nearly 900,000 passengers passing through its gate. To accommodate Utah County's growing population and the increase in passengers, the County Commission recently over a 15-year period – including $19.5 million up-front.
To oversee the airport's continued growth, Utah County established a dedicated department, directed by Brian Torgersen, who previously served as the Provo Airport Division Director since 2019.
Under Torgersen, the airport has from Allegiant and Breeze as well as American Airlines.
''Anywhere You Want To Go – Fly Provo' isn't just a slogan. It's a promise,' said Torgersen. 'Travelers from PVU can now enjoy easy access to over 270 global destinations, both domestic and international. And the connectivity will only improve with our expansion from four gates to ten gates.'
Mayor Kaufusi affirmed that as Provo continues to grow, the airport will keep pace, striving to offer residents and visitors an accessible alternative.

Mayor of nation's 'best-run' city credits focus on responsible budgeting, public safety

The mayor of Provo, Utah, told Fox News Digital that Provo was ranked as the best-run city in a new survey because local government officials adhered to the fundamentals. "We've always believed in getting the basics right first and that's quality schools, safe neighborhoods, well-maintained roads and responsible budgeting," Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi told Fox News Digital after financial services company WalletHub touted her city this week. Kaufusi cited her work on public safety, noting it was a "top concern" for residents. "We're proud to boast that we have the fourth-lowest violent crime rate in the whole nation and the seventh-lowest property crime rate. And two years ago, we were voted the safest large city in the nation," Kaufusi said. "So all of those factors come into play. It seems to put the spotlight on us and that's what brings people to Provo. And we love it and [it] brings business and we're open for business. So we are really honored and really humbled that we got to be called out for this [honor] today." WalletHub attributed economic growth, low crime, low unemployment and clean roads to Provo's high ranking. The financial service added that Provo, which has more than 110,000 residents, also boasted the 22nd-best road quality in the country. WalletHub reported it measured the "effectiveness of local leadership" by "determining a city's operating efficiency." Each city was given a "Quality of Services" score based on 36 metrics that were grouped into six service categories, including financial stability, education, health, safety, economy, and infrastructure and pollution. These were measured against the city's per capita budget. The cities that ranked low on WalletHub's list had high crime rates, including San Francisco, which came in as the worst-run on the list of 148 cities. WalletHub writer and analyst Chip Lupo told Fox News Digital that "Provo is a great example of what can happen when city leaders listen to their residents." "The mayor mentioned that public safety is a top priority, and the results speak for themselves. Provo has some of the lowest violent and property crime rates in the country, and that was a key factor in Provo's ranking as the best-run city in our study," Lupo said. "Public safety is essentially the foundation for everything else in any city. When people feel safe, they're more likely to engage in their community, support local businesses, and take advantage of public services. Provo shows that you can prioritize safety and still manage your budget well. It's a great model for other cities looking to improve how they serve their residents."

Purdue Pharma L.P. Receives Court Approval of Disclosure Statement Filed in Connection with its Plan of Reorganization

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Purdue Pharma L.P. ('Purdue') today announced that the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York (the 'Bankruptcy Court') approved the Company's disclosure statement for its Chapter 11 Plan of Reorganization. The disclosure statement provides creditors with detailed information on the terms of the Plan and will accompany the ballots that will be sent to the more than 600,000 claimants eligible to vote. The court has set a September 30 voting deadline and a November confirmation hearing. 'Following the 2024 Supreme Court ruling, we doubled down on our commitment to work with our creditors to design a new Plan that delivers unprecedented value to those affected by the opioid crisis. Today's disclosure statement approval is a major milestone in that effort,' said Purdue Board Chairman Steve Miller. 'We and our creditors have worked tirelessly in mediation to build consensus and negotiate a settlement that will increase the total value provided to victims and communities, put billions of dollars to work on day one, and serve the public good. We sincerely thank our stakeholders for their dedication and collaboration, and we look forward to having the plan confirmed and consummated as quickly as possible.' Purdue's Plan of Reorganization includes the following elements: Assuming full creditor participation, the Sacklers will make settlement payments of approximately $6.5 billion in installments over the next 15 years, subject to certain reserves. They will pay $1.5 billion on the day the Plan becomes effective. Purdue will contribute 100% of its assets, with an expected $900 million in cash available for distribution on the day of emergence. Notably, the Plan is the only opioid settlement to date that meaningfully compensates individual victims. Assuming full participation, individual victims will receive more than $850 million. In addition to this cash value, the Plan creates a new company with a public minded mission. The new company will provide millions of doses of lifesaving opioid use disorder treatment and overdose reversal medicines at no profit. The Sacklers, who exited the Board of Purdue by the end of 2018 and have had no involvement in Purdue since that time, will have no role whatsoever in the new company. Purdue Pharma L.P. will be liquidated following emergence. The Plan also provides a historic level of transparency. It creates a document repository that will make available to the public millions of documents, including privileged documents, related to Purdue's historical sales and marketing practices. The Plan does not contain third-party releases and fully complies with the Supreme Court's June 2024 decision in Harrington. The disclosure statement approved today provides the full details about the material aspects of the plan. The Plan is subject to confirmation by the Bankruptcy Court. This release is not intended as a solicitation of a vote on the Plan. Purdue Pharma and its subsidiaries develop, manufacture and market medications to meet the evolving needs of healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers. Purdue and its subsidiaries focus on balancing innovative science with clinically effective, compassionate care. The Company's goals are to serve patients who rely on its medicines, pursue public health initiatives intended to help abate the opioid crisis, advance its pipeline of branded and generic medications, and introduce medicines that will help save and improve lives.
