Our Government is committed to furthering research and innovation ecosystems for the benefit of India's youth," the Prime Minister wrote in a post on X.Reposting the post by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan hailed the improvement in India's ranking, from having only 11 universities in the QS world university rankings in 2014 to 54 Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs) being included this year.India has achieved its strongest-ever performance in the QS World University Rankings 2026 , with 54 institutions making it to the global list, a 390 per cent increase over the past decade and the highest growth among G20 countries.Calling the increase in the institutions being included in the list, Union Minister Pradhan highlighted it as a "testament to the transformative educational reforms ushered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi."The Union Minister underlined that India has the "fastest growing education system" among the G20 countries, and the fourth most represented, only behind the United States, the United Kingdom, and China."With a record 54 HEIs featuring among the global best, India hits a new high in the QS World University 2026 Rankings. From just 11 universities in 2014 to 54 in the latest rankings, this five-fold jump is a testament to the transformative educational reforms ushered in by the PM Narendra Modi govt. in the last decade. NEP 2020 is not just changing our educational landscape, it is revolutionising it," Pradhan mentioned in a post on X.According to QS World University Rankings 2026, the Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT ) Delhi has emerged as the country's top-ranked institution, securing the 123rd spot globally -- a jump of 27 places from last year's position of 150.IIT Bombay and IIT Madras followed at 129th and 180th, respectively. Notably, IIT Madras entered the global top 200 for the first time.The rankings, released by global higher education analysts QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), cover over 1,500 universities from 106 countries and territories. India is now the fourth most represented country, behind only the United States (192), the United Kingdom (90), and Mainland China (72).

Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran has once again written to Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav reiterating the State's key demands to address the increasing incidents of human-wildlife conflict in Kerala. The State's demands chiefly include an amendment to the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and the declaration of wild pigs as vermin, at least temporarily in identified hotspots. The renewed appeal comes in the light of a letter from the Union Ministry, explaining the provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, particularly those pertaining to hunting animals listed under Schedules I and II. 'Limits powers' Arguing that these limited the powers of the Chief Wildlife Warden and hampered timely action, Mr. Saseendran also flagged the ambiguity in the definition of the term 'dangerous animal' in the Act. Highlighting the growing threats posed by wild animals in human habitats, he emphasised the impracticality of the current procedures. He pointed out that due to these constraints, the Forest department had been unable to act swiftly, thereby intensifying the conflict and endangering human lives and livelihoods. He also proposed simplifying the Standard Operating Procedures for eliminating dangerous animals. The State has also called for declaring wild pigs as vermin in villages identified as hotspots. 'Such a declaration, even if limited to a duration of six months, would greatly facilitate site-specific management of the species in these areas and contribute significantly to mitigate the ongoing human-wildlife conflicts,' the letter states. The government also renewed its demand for an assistance of ₹620 crore to implement preventive measures to tackle the unfolding crisis.

Vizag traffic advisory for International Yoga Day: PM Modi to attend event, drones banned
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend a massive International Yoga Day event in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday. As the stage is set for the grand programme, the Visakhapatnam City Police has imposed traffic and drone restrictions, reported PTI. According to the police, around 5 lakh people are expected to participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations. The event is being organised in a 26-km-long corridor from RK Beach to Bhogapuram in the port city of Visakhapatnam. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said the event, scheduled from 6:30 am to 8:00 am, will be organised to get recognition and set records, including a Guinness World Record. City Police Commissioner Sanka Batra Bagchi said elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. Bagchi said, as quoted by ANI, "Five lakh people will participate in the World Yoga Day celebration. We are making arrangements accordingly." He added that the police enforced vehicle movement restrictions on key routes, especially near the Beach Road area, from June 20 afternoon till the evening of June 21. "There are traffic restrictions in Visakhapatnam from today till the evening of the 21st. There will be restrictions on the movement of vehicles on Beach Road from NTR Circle to Park Hotel," the commissioner said. Bagchi advised residents to use alternative routes. He said, "City residents should use alternative routes on Beach Road. There will be restrictions on the movement of vehicles from Park Hotel to Bhimili Beach." 1) Restrictions are imposed on the movement of vehicles from Park Hotel to Bhimili Beach. 2) Buses coming from Vizianagaram for the celebration should come towards Boyapalem. 3) Buses coming from the Alluri district for the celebration should come from Vepagunta. 4) Heavy vehicles from Srikakulam should not come towards Thagarapu Valasa-Anandapuram as they will be barred. From Anakapalle to Anandapuram, the heavy vehicles will have to go towards Srikakulam. 5) As many as 9,500 personnel will be deployed to maintain order during the large-scale event. 6) Use of drones in specific zones has been banned from 20 to 21 June. The ban applied within a 5-kilometre radius of sensitive locations, including INS Chola, Andhra University grounds, Kali Mata temple, and INS Kalinga. The 11th International Yoga Day, celebrated by several countries worldwide, has been themed 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'.
