Family detail emerges as Adam Reynolds delivers $1m dagger to Tigers in Broncos call

Yahoo6 days ago

Adam Reynolds is reportedly set to reject the Wests Tigers and knock back around $1 million by committing his NRL future to the Brisbane Broncos. Reynolds' manager revealed to that the veteran's family - who are settled in Brisbane - are central to the decision and that they hope to finalise his new deal with the Broncos in the coming days.
The same report says the Tigers tried to lure the former Rabbitohs great back to Sydney with a two-year package worth around $1.5 million. But it's understood Reynolds has decided to extend his stay in Brisbane and finish his career at the Broncos after agreeing a one-year extension for the 2026 season.
Salary cap constraints meant Brisbane could not budge on their one-year offer for Reynolds, who could have locked down an extra year and considerably more money if he chose to join Benji Marshall's Tigers. But in a stunning demonstration of his loyalty to the Broncos, the 34-year-old is willing to leave close to $1 million on the table to commit his future to Michael Maguire's side.
Reynolds' new deal is expected to include post-career job opportunities with the Broncos when the former premiership winner does hang up the boots. It looms as the final step to be negotiated between the club and Reynolds' manager Steve Gillis before his extension is rubber-stamped.
Gillis told The Courier Mail that Reynolds is keen to remain in Brisbane where his wife and four kids are settled. If the champion halfback did decide to join the Tigers it would likely have seen him relocate to Sydney without them. Reynolds was understandably reluctant to do that but his decision is a blow to the Tigers' hopes of pairing the halfback with Jarome Luai in the halves next season after letting Lachie Galvin leave to join the Bulldogs.
'Adam wants to finish his career at Brisbane,' Gillis told . 'His family is settled there, so that's what we are working towards.' Reynolds signalled his intention to remain in Brisbane earlier this month, despite admitting he did not want it to come at the expense of teammates who the Broncos might not be able to keep hold of as well.
It comes after The Courier Mail reported that Brisbane were "prepared to offload several off-contract top-liners to table a new deal for their skipper." Reynolds addressed his future at the time by saying: "I'm pretty confident that everyone can stay at the club.
"I feel like the club's in a great position to achieve some success and obviously I want to be a part of that. I want all the younger boys to be a part of that. I don't think me staying forces anyone out and if it does, that's not what I mean to do."

Brisbane legend Darren Lockyer previously suggested that the club might struggle to hang onto all their stars due to a salary cap squeeze. The $5 million extension of Reece Walsh and the added deals of Ezra Mam and Patrick Carrigan have taken up a solid portion of the Broncos' cap.
They are also in the process of extending Payne Haas beyond his current $1.1 million a season salary. Gun centre Kotoni Staggs is also in advanced negotiations to re-sign with the Broncos on a multi-million dollar deal, while there is speculation off-contract starSelwyn Cobbo could be on the move because the side can't offer him more money. Cobbo is understood to be keen to play fullback and could fetch more than $900,000 per season on the open market.
