Speculation rises over Uddhav-Raj alliance; civic poll seat-sharing major hurdle?
With speculations on rise over a potential alliance between Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, the Uddhav Thackeray faction faces a significant challenge: what kind of proposal should be offered to MNS, and for which seats? The issue is complicated by the comparable influence both parties wield in certain areas, creating a deadlock over the terms of a possible the 2017 municipal elections, Shiv Sena (UBT) won 84 seats, but 42 have since deserted the party. In contrast, MNS currently has no corporators, significantly weakening its position. Sources indicate that Uddhav Thackeray's faction believes its stronger standing in assembly constituencies like Dadar, Worli, Wadala, Sewri, Chembur and Bhandur justifies an alliance on their some leaders within the faction suspect that Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will work to prevent this alliance, wary of its potential to disrupt their dominance in Maharashtra's local politics. Reflecting on past efforts, MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar shared, 'Back then, I tried to bring Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray together. In politics, good or bad things happen when certain events unfold, but I have no idea what will happen next, so it's not appropriate to comment. Time always comes, and no time is ever bad. As the Mahabharata says, 'Time is the greatest force.' There's a lot in that statement.'advertisementShiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut dismissed suggestions of a one-sided approach, stating, 'Who told you there's no positive response? Is this one-sided love, like a Mughal-e-Azam film or Anarkali? Everyone treads carefully in politics. These are political developments, and the future of Mumbai and Maharashtra, along with the pride of Marathi identity, is at stake. They will do what's needed.'The speculation about a Raj-Uddhav alliance stems from their shared history in the undivided Shiv Sena, founded by Bal Thackeray. However, the need to counter the BJP's growing influence have fueled alliance talks. Despite the positive rhetoric from both sides, seat-sharing and local dynamics remain hurdles, and the BJP's potential interference adds further Watch

'Come On, Kill Me': Uddhav Thackeray's Big Remark, Shinde Sena Says Already Finished
Last Updated: Both rival factions of the Shiv Sena traded heated barbs on the 59th Foundation Day of the party, with Uddhav Thackeray sending a challenge to Eknath Shinde. Both rival factions of the Shiv Sena traded heated barbs on the 59th Foundation Day of the party after Uddhav Thackeray accused Eknath Shinde of betraying the party, while the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister hit back by saying he 'abandoned" Hindutva. Speaking at the Foundation Day rally in Sion, Uddhav Thackeray recited a dialogue from the 1991 move Prahar, saying, 'Like Nana Patekar in the film, I am standing before these traitors and telling them, Come on, kill me." 'But if you dare attack me, come along with an ambulance like in the film starring Amitabh Bachchan, because you will meet the same fate," he added, terming the rally of Shinde Sena as a 'gathering of thieves". Uddhav Sena, which is rumoured to enter an alliance with Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), said the BJP and Shinde Sena did not want Marathi parties to unite, referring to Raj Thackeray's recent meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. 'If you try to finish the Thackeray brand, we will finish off the BJP," he said. 'Already Finished': Shinde Hits Back Eknath Shinde, addressing a separate rally in Worli, hit back at Uddhav's remarks, saying there was no point in attacking someone who was already finished, hinting at the UBT faction's drubbing at the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections. 'Someone told me that Uddhav said, 'come on, kill me'… maybe he just watched some English movie. He had gone to London for a vacation. What's the point of attacking someone who's already politically dead? The people of Maharashtra have already crushed you in the Assembly election," he said. Shinde said the UBT faction was entering an alliance with MNS as it was desperate for power. 'Balasaheb Thackeray opposed Congress, but those desperate for power aligned with that party as they are desperate for power. UBT has betrayed the Marathi people, Shiv Sena voters and have abandoned Hindutva," he said. The deputy CM also highlighted that Uddhav's remarks are used by Pakistan against India. 'Balasaheb Thackeray opposed Congress, but those desperate for power aligned with that party as they are desperate for power. UBT has betrayed the Marathi people, Shiv Sena voters and have abandoned Hindutva," he added. Fadnavis also downplayed Uddhav's remarks, saying, 'I do not reply to Bol Bachchan (empty talk), he is Bol Bachchan." The Shiv Sena split in 2022 after Eknath Shinde engineered a rebellion and joined the BJP with 40 MLAs, leading to the fall of Uddhav Thackeray's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. Later on, Ajit Pawar also led a similar rebellion in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and joined the BJP. (with inputs from agencies) First Published: June 20, 2025, 15:20 IST

Uddhav's rhetoric reflects desperation, not strength: Bawankule
Nagpur: Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Friday dismissed Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray 's speech on the organisation's 59th foundation day as a "desperate outburst" reflective of his waning public support and growing fear of defeat. Terming the address on Thursday a sign of "helplessness," Bawankule claimed Thackeray has abandoned Shiv Sena's core ideology and Marathi interests in a bid to retain political relevance. "Uddhav's speech was not a show of strength, but a cry of despair. When people stop believing in you, loud slogans become your last refuge," Bawankule said in a statement issued on social media. He accused the former chief minister of losing not just the party name and symbol, but also its founding values, including its association with Hindutva. Responding to Thackeray's repeated assertion that "Mumbai belongs to us," the state revenue minister questioned Sena (UBT)'s legacy in the megapolis. "What exactly did your administration do for the Marathi-speaking people of Mumbai during decades of control over the BMC? There was no progress in housing, water, education or healthcare," he said. Contrasting this with development under BJP-led govts, Bawankule credited chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for implementing major infrastructure initiatives, including Mumbai Metro, Coastal Road, cluster redevelopment, and slum rehabilitation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cervecería Nacional CFD: Calcula cuánto podrías ganar invirtiendo solo $100 Empieza a invertir hoy Inscríbete ahora Undo "These projects reflect real public service, not token slogans," he remarked. Bawankule, MLA from Kamptee, also criticised Thackeray for targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, and Fadnavis. "While these leaders toured the state and nation tirelessly, Uddhav remained inside Matoshree, addressing voters through video links," Bawankule said, adding, "The people of Maharashtra can see the difference between genuine leadership and virtual politics." Asserting that Mahayuti alliance is the only force capable of delivering "development, security and dignity," Bawankule accused Thackeray of resorting to personal attacks in place of policy alternatives. "Keep mocking and taunting, because that's all you're left with. But the people have understood your pretence, and they'll deliver their verdict in the elections," he concluded.
