Kindhearted French Mastiff Shot with Pellet Gun by Cruel Neighbor Has People Outraged

Yahoo14-03-2025

In an upsetting bit of news, police in New England have arrested a woman for shooting her neighbor's dog with a pellet gun. The dog is an adorable one-year-old French Mastiff named Zuri.
Zuri's mom, Yolanda Todman, was shocked by this whole ordeal. According to a news report, she is at a loss for words upon learning that the authorities arrested her neighbor for shooting poor Zuri.
According to this news clip, the shooting took place earlier this month within Yolanda's fenced-in backyard where Zuri was simply minding her own business.
Security cameras in Yolanda's backyard recorded the sound of two BB gunshots followed by Zuri's whimpering in pain, followed by the one-year-old Mastiff limping away.A report was made, and the authorities quickly became involved, launching an investigation into this violent incident, which led them to arrest Yolanda's neighbor, a 32-year-old woman named Lynette Ayala.
Thankfully, Zuri is on the mend, and her family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the cost of her medical bills.
The United States has animal protection laws that can be enforced at every level of government. Although most animal protection laws exist at the state level. There are some animal protection laws at the federal level as well.
The primary federal animal protection law is the Animal Welfare Act, which was signed into law in 1966. This law mostly pertains to the transportation and treatment of zoo and laboratory animals.
The most recent law is the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act, which was signed into law in 2019. It makes many of the most heinous forms of animal cruelty, such as crushing, drowning, burning, impaling, and sexual abuse, and impaling a federal crime.
New England states, such as Rhode Island, have their own penalties and animal cruelty laws. They specifically pertain to malicious acts, such as torture, killing, beating, mutilating, overworking, or placing any animal in a situation that could seriously harm it or result in a fatality.
These laws also include the failure to provide animals with necessary essentials, such as shelter, food, water, or medical attention. Remember, neglect is also a form of abuse. Individuals found guilty of animal cruelty can be fined up to $1,000 and/or face two years of jail time.
However, repeat offenders can face fines of up to $5,000 and up to five years in prison. The state also mandates that people report any suspected cases of animal cruelty to the authorities.
While it remains unclear why this senseless act of violence was committed against this poor, defenseless dog, it is, without question, unacceptable. Thankfully, law enforcement was able to catch and arrest Lynette Ayala for committing this cruel crime.

AI image does not show French spy caught in Burkina Faso

'French spy has been captured by captain Ibrahim Traoré, president of Burkina Faso,' reads the caption accompanying a TikTok video posted on May 2, 2025. The post was shared more than 2,400 times. The video includes a static image that appears to show Burkina Faso's president standing next to a man wearing an army uniform, who has blood on his face and is holding his hands in the air. Several TikTok users have claimed that the man in the image is a French spy who was caught posing as a journalist by the name of Julien Moreau (seen here and here). This comes several months after four French nationals who had been held in Burkina Faso over espionage accusations were freed following more than a year of detention (archived here). The group was arrested in the capital, Ouagadougou, on December 1, 2023, and presented by the authorities as intelligence agents working for France's Directorate-General for External Security (archived here). They were released in December 2024, with French authorities thanking Morocco for mediation in the case. However, the claim that this image shows a captured French spy is false. A close look at the picture reveals several flaws commonly found in AI-generated images. For example, the writing on the man's army uniform is gibberish; it's not inscribed in French or any real language. Additionally, Traore's hands appear deformed. A reverse image search of the image led to the earliest occurrence of the claim we could find online: a YouTube video posted on May 1, 2025, seen here. In the caption, after a lengthy tale about a French man posing as a journalist who is then publicly confronted by Traore for being a spy, there is a disclaimer. 'This video is a work of fiction inspired by the life of Ibrahim Traoré,' the caption reads. 'The situations and dialogues depicted are entirely fictional.' Subsequent posts circulating on YouTube and TikTok do not contain any such disclaimers, leading users to believe the image and story is real. AFP Fact Check did not find any credible reports by international media on any French journalist being accused of espionage in Burkina Faso in May 2025. Several AI detection tools also considered the image to be AI-generated. Posts shared on social media with a similar claim that a French woman was caught spying in Burkina Faso were previously debunked by Euronews (archived here).

Vintage 70-year-old train horns stolen, Marinette County community offering reward

WAUSAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) – Train horns were stolen from two historic locomotives in Wausaukee just off of U.S. Route 141 late last week, according to train enthusiasts. The horns are valued at about $2,000 per set, and one train is 70 years old while the other is 55. 'They took both train horns off both locomotives,' Jason Asselin, of the Jason Asselin YouTube channel, said. '[The crew] got on the train, they started it, got up to the crossing, and wouldn't you be surprised: the horns didn't work.' De Pere Police Department investigating multiple graffiti incidents Asselin says the alleged crime occurred Thursday night or early Friday morning. He explained that the criminal would have needed to have a thorough knowledge of the train, be equipped with the right tools to cut the wires and remove the horns. 'These horns were vintage antiques,' he said. 'They had a special sound to them. You could be off the highway somewhere and know what locomotive was coming down the rail. And now it's probably not going to be the same.' The horns have been replaced, as it is federal law that trains have working horns and that they blare them when crossing roadways. 'You don't see these trains unless they're in a museum,' Asselin, who has been documenting Wisconsin railways for years, said. 'They don't use them anymore. So the fact that this railroad still uses them, it's quite an attraction to many rail fans.' The locomotives are engines 1221 and 400 of the Escanaba and Lake Superior Railroad, which runs from Channing, MI, in the Upper Peninsula to Green Bay. Much of the work they are used for is delivering shipments of siding from Louisiana Pacific out of Sagola, MI, according to Asselin, and they run five days a week. This is not the first crime that has occurred on the northeastern Wisconsin-upper peninsula railway. '1980, a theft occurred at Wells at their main depot where the building was. And rail fans were blamed for it,' Asselin said. 'So for a long time, [the railway] kind of had a hate toward rail fans, which, can you blame them?' Now, Asselin is hoping for a different outcome. He has raised a reward of more than $700 for information resulting in the return of the horns, along with other rail fans, as he hopes their reputation will not only be spared but strengthened amid this crime. 'Please slow down and arrive alive': Wisconsin State Patrol urges people to slow down after clocking driver at 115 mph 'I wanted to show the railroad that rail fans couldn't have done this. A rail fan enjoys hearing the horns, they love the vintage, they want to see it. Stealing a horn has no purpose, what would you do with it?' he said. 'I don't think it was a rail fan that did it. And maybe this small token of appreciation will show them that we do care.' Anyone interested in pitching in to the reward can contact Jason through his YouTube and social media channels. If the horns are not found or returned, the money will still be donated to the railway. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
