Strict ban across UK beaches now in force that could see you slapped with £1,000 fine.. check which spots are exempt
HUNDREDS of UK beaches are now subject to new dog rules rolled out last week, with some beaches banning dogs entirely until autumn.
Owners could face hefty fines of up to £1,000 if caught flouting the rules.

The dog bans took effect on May 1 and will remain in force until September.
The crackdown aims to keep beaches clean and safe during the busy summer season - but pet owners are being urged to check local rules.
Chris Maxted, director of retractable dog gate firm Dog-G8, explained: "Seasonal dog bans on UK beaches are a practical measure to protect water quality and maintain the Blue Flag status that many coastal areas value.
"Dog excrement and urine can have a significant impact on water quality, making it unsuitable for swimming.

"Public Spaces Protection Orders allow councils to enforce beach bans during peak seasons to reduce contamination from dog fouling.
"These rules aim to create a safer and cleaner environment for everyone, while making sure coastal waters remain suitable for bathing."
He added: "It's important for dog owners to check before visiting beaches, as the rules can vary significantly.
"Many beaches allow dogs from October 1 to April 30 but enforce restrictions from May to September under Public Space Protection Orders.

"Some areas will implement complete bans, while others impose partial bans, such as requiring dogs to be kept on leads or limiting them to promenades.
"Ignoring these rules can result in a £100 on-the-spot fine or, if escalated to court, a fine of up to £1,000."

Maxted pointed out that many beaches remain dog-friendly all year round.
He said: "Across England, many counties offer a variety of dog-friendly beaches all year round, with Devon leading the way with 79 locations.
"This gives dog owners plenty of opportunities to enjoy the coast with their pets without the worry of seasonal restrictions."
Guide dogs are exempt, but only if they're working, wearing a harness and on a lead.
Dog-friendly beach information can be found on local council websites.
The strict rules began in 2019, when Weymouth Beach first
Although beaches in Wirral attempted to enforce a similar ban back in 2017, their efforts were unsuccessful.

A BRITISH tourist is fighting for her life after catching a deadly disease while on her all-inclusive holiday in Greece. She developed a chest infection and needed lots of rest, and then became seriously ill two days later. Donna, who suffers from "complex" medical conditions including epilepsy, was taken to hospital on June 11 and doctors put her in an induced coma. Tests confirmed she had contracted Legionnaires' disease, which triggered acute respiratory failure and Her "devastated" family has flown out to be by her side. And three other rooftop bars outside of London Goodness Gracious Roof Garden and Bar, Liverpool Located in Liverpool, Goodness Gracious Roof Garden and Bar can be found on the eighth floor of West Africa House. With views of the city's iconic 'Three Graces' - The Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building. The bar is open from 12pm till late, Wednesday through to Sunday and has been described by previous visitors as a "real sun trap". 20 Stories, Manchester Over in Manchester, 20 stories is split between a roof terrace, restaurant and cocktail bar. And this summer, the bar has partnered with Aperol for a bespoke Spritz menu. The venue will also host live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Guesthouse No.42, Margate Guesthouse No.42 opened in Margate back in 2023 and in the same year the spot opened their new rooftop terrace bar. The bar features amazing 360 degree views over the beach front and serves a wide range of tipples including local beers and wine. However, it is currently the only rooftop bar in Margate - so could be busy in the summer months.

I went to the Greek island that's the ‘birthplace of marathons' and ran the most beautiful 13 miles in the world
I'M 16 kilometres in and almost sorry I only have five more to go. I've run a lot of different places — along New York's Brooklyn Bridge, around France's Mont Saint-Michel, even in the moat at London's Tower of London — but this is easily one of the most beautiful. Starting in the middle of town, the two large 10km loops take the runners (some who will do it twice to complete a marathon) along the water's edge, past the town's old fortified walls, around the Rhodes Windmills, before throwing a hill or two in there to really get the heart pumping. I have always wanted to do a run in Greece — it's the birthplace of the marathon. Advertisement Read More on GREECE And thanks to the stunning scenery, perfect climate and cheers of supportive locals, plus 700 volunteers who beam as they hand out gels and water along the way, I'm glad I've finally made it out here. At 20km in, I see the pro marathon runners on the other side of the course. And I realise that, thanks to the trail, these gazelles are likely to lap some of the slower half-marathon runners. I better pick up my pace. Soon, it's 500 metres to go, 400, 300 . . . suddenly, in the crowd, I spot my husband cheering me on and I give it one last push, thundering over the line in 1hr 55mins. The facilities are that little bit quieter, too, meaning I get an easy slot in the hotel's sauna to help my muscles recover, and score a great spot by the pool. Advertisement But if you get tired of relaxing, I would heartily recommend getting out of the hotel and exploring the local area. The Old Town in Rhodes is filled with fantastic shops and restaurants — and we fill up post-marathon with mouth-watering dolmades, tzatziki, stews and a final delectable bite of baklava. Meanwhile, you can sign up to olive oil or wine tasting courses, explore Lindos Acropolis and hike up the mountains that dot around the island. Our own trip is over too quickly, and we sit by our personal pool until the very last moment when the taxi arrives to drive us half an hour to the airport. Advertisement But there's no chance I'll be forgetting this holiday. After all, unlike other trips, I have a physical medal as my souvenir. And we do all deserve a little reward now and then.
