Centre allocates 750 e-buses to Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: The Union government has allocated 750 fully air-conditioned electric buses to Andhra Pradesh under the PM-eBus Sewa scheme announced former Director General of Press Information Bureau (PIB) and media advisor to the Government of India Rajeev Jain announced.
Addressing the media in Vijayawada on Monday, Jain stated that these e-buses would significantly contribute to building a pollution-free, modern transport infrastructure across the State.
He further revealed that the Centre is committed to supporting Andhra Pradesh's urban development through various Centrally sponsored schemes.
'Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's proactive engagement with the Centre is facilitating the transformation of Amaravati into a world-class capital city,' he said.
Jain also shared updates on the urban mobility projects, noting that substantial steps have been taken toward implementing the Vijayawada Metro Rail project, which will cover approximately 38 km, along with the Visakhapatnam Metro initiative.
Highlighting achievements under other flagship schemes, Jain noted that over 84% of projects worth `5,701 crore have been completed in Amaravati, Kakinada, Tirupati, and Visakhapatnam under the Smart Cities Mission.
Andhra Pradesh ranks third among major States in the PM Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) disbursement, achieving 103.08% against its 3.3 lakh target.
Additionally, under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), more than 3.5 lakh loan applications have been sanctioned.
Under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and AMRUT 2.0, the Centre has released `589 crore to AP, and Detailed Project Reports for 367 urban infrastructure projects worth over `6,200 crore have been approved.

Varanasi gears up for CZC meeting, final touches underway
1 2 Varanasi: With the Central Zonal Council (CZC) meeting scheduled for June 25, preparations have intensified in Varanasi. Beautification works are nearing completion, particularly along routes that will witness VIP movements beginning Monday evening. That evening, they will offer prayers at the Kaal Bhairav and Kashi Vishwanath temples before proceeding to the meeting venue at Hotel Taj in Nadesar on Tuesday morning. To ensure smooth movement and aesthetic appeal, authorities are focusing on key areas including the stretch from Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport to Hotel Taj and the roads leading to both temples. Thematic display boards are being installed along the Varuna bridge, while road dividers are being freshly painted. Work on enhancing street lighting and greenery is also nearing completion, with multiple agencies working in coordination. On the security front, Commissioner Agrawal said a multi-layered deployment plan has been finalised. Security personnel will be stationed at the venue and across the VIP routes. Measures include rooftop surveillance, deployment of officers in plain clothes, drone monitoring, and route diversions. Traffic diversions will remain in effect from Monday evening until the dignitaries' departure on Tuesday. CM Yogi during his visit to the venue on June 16, had reviewed the arrangements and instructed officials to ensure the timely completion of all pending work. With issues from multiple departments expected to be discussed, senior officials from Union ministries and departments of the four participating states have already started arriving in the city.

NTR district takes up ‘Clean Air' drive with major initiatives under NCAP
Vijayawada: The NTR district administration has taken up the 'Clean Air' initiative in a big way under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), by launching a series of integrated measures aimed at reducing air pollution and improving environmental standards in Vijayawada. Authorities of NTR district conducted a high-level meeting with officials from the Pollution Control Board, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, transport, industries, and other departments, assessed the progress made, and planned further action. Air quality monitoring data revealed that the level of PM 10 fine dust particles in the city stood at 64 µg/m³ during 2024–25. Authorities resolved to bring this number down through focused interventions in traffic, greenery, and pollution control. Among the key initiatives is the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), being developed at a cost of ₹5 crore. The system is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion at junctions, and cut down vehicle emissions. The administration also directed that illegal parking be curbed and dedicated parking zones be created to ease road pressure. Action is being taken to identify and penalise vehicles emitting high levels of pollutants. Additionally, pollution caused by VTPS ash is to be addressed using advanced technology. On the solid waste management front, construction of proper roads, pavement development, canal bank greening, and mechanical sweeping are being prioritised. The administration is also enforcing ban on single-use plastic, particularly in shopping complexes, farmers' markets, and commercial zones. "All departments must report on plastic control measures and explore alternatives. Awareness campaigns among street vendors are equally important," Dr. Lakshmi added. A stakeholder workshop under NCAP has been scheduled for July 4 to discuss and finalise the next phase of clean air actions.

Soon, GIS mapping of Sal river and Ponda nullah; digital portal for environmental monitoring in state
Panaji: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), at its recent meeting, approved GIS mapping of River Sal and the Ponda nullah to identify the source of pollution in these water bodies. The board noted that it received a number of complaints about pollution in the Sal and the nullah. Besides this, the board said that a writ petition was also filed in the high court, where it was also told to find the source of pollution in these water bodies. The board has accordingly decided to invite e-tenders to carry out the work. Meanwhile, the board approved the issuance of a work order to a selected service provider through e-tendering, chosen to set up a digital portal and dashboard for an online continuous environmental data monitoring system. This dashboard will collect real-time pollution monitoring data from all industrial units in Goa. The server will be operational within six months, the GSPCB told the service provider, who will be paid Rs 85 lakh for the work. 'This portal will enable highly scalable systems that can connect more than 2,000 or all available industries/units of Goa, engaged in online monitoring with all the sites simultaneously in real-time with a non-proprietary, highly scalable back-end database suitable for storing time series data,' the board said in the minutes of its meeting. The Union ministry of electronics and information technology, under the National Air Quality Monitoring Programme and the National Water Quality Monitoring Programme, requires states to carry out continuous noise monitoring, ambient air quality monitoring, effluent monitoring, and emission monitoring. All this data is to be deployed on the empanelled cloud server of the ministry and managed by a bidder under the ownership of the GSPCB. Accordingly, a work order will be issued to create a digital portal and dashboard for a continuous online monitoring system for Goa.
