Uncrowned has UFC Atlanta live results, round-by-round updates, start time and highlights for the Kamaru Usman vs. Joaquin Buckley fight card on Saturday night at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Former UFC welterweight champion Usman faces off against red-hot contender Buckley in the night's five-round main event, while former two-time UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas continues her climb up the flyweight ranks against Miranda Maverick in the co-headliner.
Usman (20-4) was once considered the unanimous No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport, however he enters Saturday struggling through the longest losing streak of his professional career. Usman's historic title reign ended in historic fashion when Leon Edwards authored a legendary fifth-round comeback in 2022 to steal away the title. Usman then lost a trilogy bout against Edwards followed by his short-notice middleweight debut against Khamzat Chimaev, both of which occurred in 2023.

One more loss in a row for "The Nigerian Nightmare" could spell the end of his time as a contender.
While his foe appears to be on the downslide of his career, Buckley (21-6) is very much ascendent. "New Mansa" has won six consecutive bouts since moving back to the welterweight division in 2023, with four of those contests ending in vicious stoppages. Included in that run are knockouts of longtime contenders Vicente Luque, Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, and most recently three-time UFC title challenger Colby Covington.
In the evening's co-main event, Namajunas (13-7) looks to fend off the streaking Maverick (15-5).

Petition calls for California to end policy allowing transgender students to compete in girls' sports

Some female high school athletes want an end to a policy that allows transgender athletes to compete in girls' sports, claiming it has created unfair competition. "Right here, right now, we are hand-delivering a petition signed by 20,074 people," California Family Council outreach director Sophia Lorey said. Female high school athletes, their families and supporters brought a petition to a California Interscholastic Federation meeting in Costa Mesa on Friday. The California Family Council organized the petition and a rally outside the meeting. On its website, the council wrote that its mission is "advancing God's design for life, family and liberty through California's church, capitol and culture." Among the athletes was Taylor Starling, who sued the Riverside Unified School District, claiming she was demoted from the varsity cross country team when a transgender student took her spot. "Girls like me are being told to smile, sit down and be quiet and give up what we've worked so hard for," Starling said. "And now, we're the ones being excluded from our own teams. Girls' sports were made to give us a level playing field. Right now, that's not happening in the state of California." Last month, CIF rules were changed at the state track and field championships, where Jurupa Valley High School transgender athlete AB Hernandez competed. Prior to the meet, a new policy was put in place allowing an additional female student to compete and medal in events where Hernandez had qualified. In a news release, a state spokesperson said CIF made the decision to pilot an entry process. "When girls are forced to share the starting line, the locker room or the podium with males, that's not inclusion," Lorey said. "It's injustice and California girls are paying the price." CIF said its mission is to provide students with the opportunity to belong and compete in compliance with the law, irrespective of the gender listed on the student's records.

Bill Belichick-Jordon Hudson drama revealed in new emails

Emails obtained by WRAL show Bill Belichick addressing the controversy over his romantic and professional relationship with Jordon Hudson. The relationship between the legendary coach and the 24-year-old model has drawn national scrutiny after a controversial "CBS Sunday Morning" interview. Hudson declared, "We're not talking about that" when Belichick was asked about how the couple met. Belichick claimed in one email that CBS "secretly" had a camera focused on Hudson despite the model requesting to sit off camera. "Secretly, CBS had a camera focused on Jordon where Lead producer Gabe instructed her to sit," Belichick reportedly wrote. Belichick elaborated on why the question of how they met was not answered. "I met Jordon randomly on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021. That is no secret. Jordon was not dodging the specific question regarding how we met, but rather was preventing the interview from continuing to probe into personal matters," the email said. Belichick also addressed why Hudson was present at the interview to begin with. He believed the interview would be focused on his book, "The Art of Winning: Lessons from a Life in Football." "Jordon was present at the CBS interview because David Kass, the Simon & Schuster publicist, was not there," Belichick wrote, referring to the publisher of his book. "I included Jordon in the book acknowledgments because she was a creative contributor to the book, including having the idea for formatting the 4 special pages in the book." In another email, Belichick addressed reports that he requested to have Hudson copied on every email sent to him. "Jordon and I have both a personal & professional relationship," Belchick wrote in the email. "This is not a secret. Jordon assists me with my personal media, which is why I asked UNC to forward media requests (E.G. CBS 60 Minutes) to her. Jordon has zero involvement in the UNC football program, beyond the degree that my personal media intersects with it." Belichick released a statement saying he was "surprised" about getting the questions about his relationship and that when Hudson had stepped in, she was doing her job. He went on to accuse CBS of creating a "false narrative" with so-called "selectively edited clips." CBS responded, disagreeing with Belichick's version of events. In a separate interview with ESPN, Belichick insisted Hudson is not involved with UNC football. Padres' Mike Shildt on bench-clearing confrontation with Dodgers: ‘I have no regrets'

SAN DIEGO — A day after San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt and Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts were ejected from a heated series finale, the two men received one-game suspensions they will simultaneously serve Friday night. Major League Baseball announced in a relief that it had handed down the brief bans 'for unsportsmanlike conduct and for contributing to inciting the benches-clearing incident.' Advertisement Shildt, for his part, said he understood the discipline. He also said he did not regret that he played a central part in Thursday's benches-clearing confrontation at Dodger Stadium, where tempers erupted after Padres star right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit by a Dodgers pitcher for the third time in 10 days. 'You always review, and the one thing that I am responsible (for) is making sure we have a clean game,' Shildt said at Petco Park before the Padres' series opener against the Kansas City Royals. 'The circumstances were really challenging this past series. And at the end of the day, I don't regret standing up for a guy that I love in Tati and a team that I love and a city that I love and an organization that I love. So, in that regard, I have no regrets. … As far as my actions, it's not something that you want to do every night or needs to be done hopefully ever again. But appropriate actions for the circumstances were taken, and I don't regret it at all.' In Thursday's ninth inning and his major-league debut, Dodgers pitcher Jack Little struck Tatis in the right wrist with a 93 mph fastball, sending the outfielder to the ground. Shildt stormed out of the visiting dugout and, after briefly tending to Tatis, continued toward the Dodgers' side of the field, appearing to direct his ire at Roberts. That drew the Dodgers' manager out of his dugout, and the pair soon met on the field. Roberts used his forearm to make contact with Shildt. They were quickly separated, with both dugouts and bullpens pouring into the area near home plate. The scrum came three days after a series opener in which Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages was plunked and yelled at Padres pitcher Dylan Cease. Pages later said he felt he was hit intentionally. Shildt, in the heat of the moment, was captured on television cameras appearing to yell a pointed message — 'Who the f—k do you think you are?' — at Pages. Advertisement The next night, Dodgers pitcher Lou Trivino — who had hit Tatis early in a June 10 game at Petco Park — again plunked the outfielder. In the subsequent half-inning, Padres pitcher Randy Vásquez plunked Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani, and the umpiring crew issued warnings. Later in the game, Dodgers pitcher Matt Sauer was not ejected after hitting Jose Iglesias in the left wrist. The resulting tensions carried over into the series finale. Trivino struck outfielder Bryce Johnson in the knee. He came close to hitting Tatis again, prompting Shildt to scream in the pitcher's direction. Then, Little plunked Tatis in the ninth. Chaos ensued and spilled into the bottom of the inning. Padres closer Robert Suarez hit Ohtani with a 100 mph fastball. As he walked to first base, Ohtani waved off his teammates, seemingly preventing a potential brawl. Friday, MLB announced a three-game suspension for Suarez, who, like Shildt and Roberts, also received an undisclosed fine. Suarez has elected to appeal the suspension. 'I was just coming in to close out that game,' Suarez said through interpreter Pedro Gutiérrez. 'I was never trying to run into trouble or hit anybody. Unfortunately, it happened.' Meanwhile, further imaging on Tatis' wrist had come back negative. Tatis is in Friday night's lineup, batting leadoff and playing right field. 'The candle worked, man,' Shildt said. (The previous night, Padres third baseman Manny Machado declared that the Dodgers 'gotta pray' that Tatis had avoided serious injury, suggesting that the Padres' chief rivals 'set up a little candle.') Shildt supported Suarez's assertion that he did not intend to hit Ohtani. 'There's a strong appeal to lessen' Suarez's suspension, Shildt said. He added he had a 'healthy respect' for the Dodgers, naming such players as Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernández, who sought Shildt out on the field Thursday and defused the anger between the teams. Advertisement Shildt was asked about the fact that Roberts received the same suspension length, despite the latter being the manager who initiated physical contact the previous night. 'The league does their deal. They do a good job,' Shildt said. 'They take all the factors into it. I accept my game (suspension). What they do to anybody else is none of my business, quite honestly.' Roberts, to Shildt and the Padres, is not just anybody else. During the 2024 National League Division Series, Roberts said it was 'unsettling' that Machado threw a baseball in his vicinity. Later, after the Dodgers rallied from the brink of elimination and went on to win the World Series, Roberts acknowledged that he had used the rhetoric as a diversionary tactic. GO DEEPER Dodgers' Dave Roberts says Manny Machado threw at him Friday, Shildt was asked if things had become 'personal' between him and Roberts. 'There's some history that's very public with what happened last year with Manny that I took exception to,' Shildt said. 'I handled that very privately. This got to be more public. And it's ultimately about the defense of our team. And anybody that is going to take the steps that I feel are inappropriate against our team, then I will take action. But I'm not a personal guy. I'm not a grudge guy. But I am a foxhole guy.' (Top photo of Mike Shildt yelling at the Dodgers' dugout after Fernando Tatis was hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of Thursday's game: Mark J.
