Kamal Haasan's Thug Life Box Struggles To Cross Rs 50 Crore-mark At Box Office
Last Updated:
Thug Life faced stiff competition with Akshay Kumar's 'killer-comedy' Housefull 5, particularly in the North chain.
Kamal Haasan's Thug Life continues to struggle at the domestic box office. The Mani Ratnam film, on day 9, minted Rs 75 Lakh at ticket windows (across all languages). With this, the total collection of the gangster drama stands at Rs 44.75 crore, reported sacnilk.com.
Thug Life, which was released on June 5, has faced tough competition from Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5.
Interestingly, the comedy-entertainer, too, received negative reviews from critics and audiences alike, but in spite of that, it has successfully crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India.
Going by the Friday trend, it looks like the Kamal Haasan-starrer wouldn't be able to touch the Rs 50 crore mark at the box office. In comparison, his last release, Indian 2, collected Rs 70.4 crore in its first week.
One of the major reasons behind Thug Life's downfall could be the Kannada-language controversy. Earlier, during the film's audio launch event in Chennai, Kamal Haasan made a statement linking the origins of the Kannada language to Tamil. 'Shivarajkumar is my family living in another state. That's why he is here. That's why when I began my speech, I said 'My life and my family is Tamil'. Your language (Kannada) was born out of Tamil. So you are included in that line," he said.
This statement of the actor didn't go well with several pro-Kannada groups and the film was banned in Karnataka.
Apart from Kamal Haasan, the film also features celebs like Naasar, Ali Fazal, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Silambarasan, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Rohit Saraf and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy in pivotal roles.
Thug Life follows the story of Rangaraya Sakthivel, an elderly criminal, who seeks vengeance on those who have betrayed him, including his brother, his gang members, and Amar (his adopted son, played by Silambarasan). It's also a story of mistrust and power struggles, with Sakthivel determined to destroy everyone he perceives is threatening him. The film also explores a morally problematic subplot: Sakthivel's adulterous connection with Indrani (Trisha), a social media influencer.

Exclusive: Ashi Singh on being able to buy a house in Mumbai; ‘I never wanted any designer brands, but this was an important target to achieve'
Actress Ashi Singh , currently seen as Kairi in Ufff…Yeh Love Hai Mushkil opposite Shabir Ahluwalia, has achieved a major personal milestone—buying her own house in Mumbai. In an exclusive conversation, Ashi opened up about what this accomplishment means to her and why it was always a top priority. Reflecting on her early days in the city, Ashi shared, 'When I shifted to Mumbai, I was still in school. We always lived on rent. And I don't know why, but people here trouble tenants a lot. It feels like they are giving us money to stay, not the other way around. Even if you pay Rs 50,000 or Rs 1 lakh in rent, you're not treated well. That's at least been our experience.' For Ashi, owning a home wasn't about luxury—it was about stability. 'I didn't want a designer bag or a good car or a sports car—nothing. I just wanted a house, which finally I got. It was an important target to achieve.' Interestingly, despite owning the home, Ashi hasn't moved in yet. 'No, no. In fact, I have not even shifted there because my shoot happens where I stay right now. My set is 10 minutes away. It doesn't make sense to live an hour away. I've always said, wherever my set is, that's where I'll live. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thị trường có dấu hiệu suy thoái không?
