Alabama has four players in CBS Sports' top 50 NFL Draft prospects to watch in 2025

Alabama football has some NFL draft analysts buzzing ahead of the 2025 season.
Small wonder. The Crimson Tide have gone 17 years since a player wasn't selected in the first round of the draft. That was all the way back in 2008 after Nick Saban's first season when the talent simply hadn't arrived in Tuscaloosa but was more than on its way with Saban's banner '08 class.
Exactly who the first Alabama player chosen at next year's draft, to be held in Pittsburgh, will be is probably a matter of debate and hinges on who steps up the most in 2025. Two players to keep an eye on are offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor and defensive lineman LT Overton.
Proctor and Overton are two of four Alabama players that made CBS Sports' top 50 draft prospects to watch ahead of the 2025 college football season. Proctor has been a two-year starter at left tackle and enters the season as a rising junior among the draft boards.
He was ranked the No. 3 overall player in CBS Sports' list on Friday, behind Texas quarterback Arch Manning at No. 1 and former Crimson Tide safety Caleb Downs of Ohio State.
Overton will return for his senior season and second with the Crimson Tide after transferring to Alabama from Texas A&M after the 2023 season. In 12 games last season, the 6-foot-5, 283-pound tackle made a career-high 42 tackles (17 solo) and recorded two sacks and a forced fumble.
Overton, named to the 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, was ranked the No. 13 overall play to watch by CBS Sports. Further down the list, fifth-year senior linebacker and fellow Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List member Deontae Lawson was ranked at No. 35 overall, with offensive lineman Parker Brailsford No. 49.
Alabama will open the 2025 season against the Florida State Seminoles at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Aug. 30. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC.

Huge 2026 NFL mock draft update rebuilds Steelers offense
We are a month away from the start of NFL training camps and just after that, the college football season will kick off. So we thought now was the perfect time to update our five-round mock draft for the 2026 NFL draft. As things stand right now, we have five quarterbacks with a first-round grade and depending how the college season plays out, there should be a potential franchise quarterback on the board when the Steelers pick in the first round. First round - QB Fernando Mendoza - Indiana The Steelers pick No. 15 overall in this mock and a run on quarterbacks leave them with Indiana's Fernando Mendoza. He's not a household name yet but by the time the draft gets here, he should be one of the first four quarterbacks off the board. Second round - CB Jalon Kilgore - South Carolina Kilgore has prototypical NFL size and athleticism and showed a ton of growth last season in his coverage technique. Third round - TE Max Klare - Purdue We are rooting for Darnell Washington but if tight end becomes a bigger part of the offense, a pick like Klare as a receiving weapon makes a lot of sense. Third round - WR Nic Anderson - LSU Anderson is healthy and getting a fresh start at LSU. He is good at everything and has no real glaring weaknesses to his game. Third round - RB Jonah Coleman - Washington If Jaylen Warren leaves after the season, the Steelers will need to add a back to go with Kaleb Johnson. Coleman is a powerful, squatty back with impressive balance truly elite vision with sneaky athleticism. Fourth round - OT Drew Shelton - Penn State Massive powerfuly run blocker who just overwhelms defenders with his size and power. Fourth round - S Keon Sabb - Alabama Exceptional developmental safety who might end up going much sooner than this if he can develop more in coverage Fifth round - IOL - Febechi Nwaiwu - Oklahoma Nwaiwu transfered to Oklahoma last season and after he got up to speed, really looked good as the team's starting right tackle. We expect him to make another big jump in 2025 and he could be Isaac Seumalos' replacement. Fifth round - WR Germie Bernard - Alabama Alabama is Bernard's third FBS team in four seasons. He's not spectacular in any area but he's found a way to develop as a really reliable possession receiver if he can just have some stability in coaching and scheme.

Ray Fittipaldo says Joey Porter Jr.'s development caused one Steelers coaching change
Joey Porter Jr. has had an up-and-down first two years in the NFL — and according to insider Ray Fittipaldo, ex-Steelers DB coach Grady Brown may be at fault. On a recent episode of 93.7 The Fan, Fittipaldo connected Porter's development issues to Brown losing his job in Pittsburgh: "[Steelers DB coach Gerald Alexander] said he thinks [Joey]'s elite at the line of scrimmage, in terms of disrupting, but it's everything that happens after that where Joey still struggles. Like, your transition to your coverage, then once you're close to your guy — don't put your hands on him, and then be more opportunistic when the ball's in the air. He's been kind of behind the eight ball in all three of those things. "That's Gerald's job. That's why Grady Brown is no longer here. Joey Porter has not developed the way they hoped he thought he would as a No. 32 overall pick in that draft." The Steelers hired Alexander in February to serve as the new defensive backs coach, while Brown was picked up by the Saints to serve as their new cornerbacks coach. Porter could be in for a major breakout in 2025 alongside newly signed CB Darius Slay Jr., who's taken the third-year Steelers corner under his wing this offseason. Texas A&M Softball adds depth, eyes return to host Regionals in 2026
Texas A&M's softball season came to an abrupt end in the Bryan-College Station Regional, despite being picked as one of the favorites to reach the NCAA Women's College World Series.
