Delhi CM Rekha Gupta leads Sikkim Day celebrations at Secretariat
New Delhi: In continuation of the initiative by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to celebrate the foundation days of various states, the Department of Art, Culture, and Language organised a cultural programme at the Delhi Secretariat to celebrate Sikkim Day on Friday.
The objective of the event was to showcase the glorious cultural heritage, lively traditions, and historical legacy of the state of Sikkim, said an official.
Around 20 artistes associated with the Sahitya Kala Parishad presented captivating performances of Sikkim's folk dances, folk music, and traditional arts, bringing to life the diverse culturally rich of the state, he said.
Chief Minister Gupta said: "A significant number of Sikkim citizens reside in Delhi, contributing remarkably to the progress of not only their state but the entire nation through their hard work, dedication, and diligence.'
She said Sikkim is renowned not only for its natural beauty but also for its rich cultural heritage, peaceful lifestyle, and commitment to development, setting an example for the entire country.
'On this special day, I wish the people of Sikkim happiness, good health, and continuous progress,' she said.
Minister of Art, Culture, and Language Kapil Mishra said: 'Sikkim is a leading state in India, not only culturally but also in terms of tourism, social, and economic contributions. The social, cultural, and educational collaboration between Delhi and Sikkim is continuously strengthening, and this partnership will grow even stronger in the coming years."
He said the state's rich heritage, inspiring traditions, and historical contributions are a matter of pride for the nation. 'On this auspicious occasion, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the people of Sikkim,' he said.
The traditional Sikkimese folk dance mesmerised the audience at the Delhi Secretariat. This group dance, performed by the Tamang community, features vigorous footwork, intricate sounds, and the use of the Damphu instrument, symbolising joy and celebration.
Additionally, performances of the Khampa, Lion Dance, and Mask Dance by male and female artistes dressed in traditional attire created an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm at the Secretariat premises.
A special exhibition was also organised to display Sikkim's artistic traditions, craftsmanship, and cultural symbols, offering the audience a glimpse into the state's artistic talent and cultural richness.

New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta said on Sunday that to strengthen grievance redress, grievance boxes are being installed at govt offices, and the public grievance monitoring system ( remains operational 24x7. The weekly Jan Sunwai camps are now being held in all revenue districts. These camps are attended by officials of departments, including the municipal corporation, Delhi Police, power and other departments. These programmes are not just confined to govt offices but are being held in community spaces such as schools, chaupals and banquet halls to make people feel more at ease while presenting their concerns and expectations. Delhi Transport Minister vows infra, green push in Vikaspuri
Delhi Health and Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Sunday took part in a record plantation drive involving 501 trees and vowed infrastructure development in his Vikaspuri constituency for offering a safer, faster and more dignified life to citizens. Inaugurating the long-overdue construction work of the Baprola Village to Harphool Vihar road, the Minister said: 'Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, we are accelerating long-stalled projects and investing in the future of our youth and city.' 'This move exemplifies the Delhi government's proactive governance model — putting people's needs and children's safety at the heart of its development agenda,' he said. The new road project addresses a public demand that had remained unresolved for the past many years in the Vikaspuri Assembly constituency, he said. The road, which had deteriorated over time and posed major commuting challenges for residents, holds immense importance for daily travel — especially for school-going children, he said. The road serves as a vital link to two major schools in the area and used by students of the government school in Baprola Village, he said, adding that the new road will benefit approximately 3,000 to 3,500 schoolchildren. Residents across Baprola Village, G-2 Jai Vihar, Prashant Enclave, Bajrang Chowk, and Harphool Vihar will benefit directly from the improved road infrastructure, he said. The Minister said the road project is a reflection of the government's continued dedication to inclusive urban growth and a testimony to its action-oriented governance in the Vikaspuri region. Earlier in the day, the Vikaspuri Assembly also witnessed an environmental milestone with the plantation of 501 trees under the ongoing "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign in a single day. Only BS-VI compliant trucks will be allowed to enter Delhi from Nov 1: Govt
Aiming to curb the entry of polluting commercial vehicles into Delhi, the Rekha Gupta government plans to prohibit the entry of all commercial vehicles that are not compliant with BS-VI from November 1, an official said on Sunday. In addition to curbs on entry of polluting goods vehicles, the Delhi government is also gearing up to plans to stop sale of fuel to end-of-life (EoL) or over-age vehicles from July 1. The city's Transport department recently issued a circular clarifying that even if a commercial vehicle is carrying Delhi-bound essential commodities or providing essential services in the city it will not be allowed to enter the city after October 31 if it is not BS-VI compliant. Bharat Stage VI or BS-VI is the most stringent emission standard set by the Indian government to regulate air pollutants from vehicles. The Delhi government's crackdown against polluting trucks is based on the latest direction issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), said a transport department official. Citing CAQM's direction number 88 to curb rising air pollution from commercial goods vehicles, the transport department said: "All transport/commercial vehicle viz. Light Goods Vehicles, Medium Goods Vehicle and Heavy Goods Vehicles -– that are not BS-VI complaint will be strictly prohibited from entering National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi from November 1, 2025." Soon after the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in Delhi, the Forest and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa had hinted at a possible ban on sale of fuel to vehicles older than 15 years and constituted a team to identify and restrict movement of overage, polluting vehicles in the city. The transport department has now defined EoL vehicles as those which are no longer validly registered vehicles, whether running on petrol, CNG or diesel. These also include petrol vehicles more than 15 years old and diesel vehicles more than 10 years old. The CAQM has also issued a direction that all EoL vehicles identified through Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras or other such devices installed at fuel pump stations would be denied fuel from July 1 in the NCT of Delhi. The transport department has warned that fuel pump owners found supplying fuel to EoL vehicles may also face action.
