Samsung reveals Exynos 2500, the chip behind its leaked Flip 7 shakeup

TL;DR Samsung has announced its new Exynos 2500 chipset with powerful AI abilities and GPU upgrades. Built on a 3nm process, it supports high-end features like ray tracing and satellite connectivity. Leaked reports suggest this SoC will power all Galaxy Z Flip 7 devices worldwide, marking a break from tradition. In the run-up to the eventual launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Samsung has officially unveiled the Exynos 2500 SoC that is largely rumored to power the upcoming flip phone in all markets, including the US. The Exynos 2500 is built on a 3nm GAA process node and features a 1+(2+5)+2 CPU setup comprising one Cortex-X5 (which ARM renamed as the Cortex-X925) clocked at 3.3GHz, two Cortex-A725 at 2.74GHz, five Cortex-A725 at 2.36GHz, and two Cortex-A520 at 1.8GHz. The new SoC uses the Samsung Xclipse 950 GPU, which supports a display of up to 4K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate and hardware-accelerated ray tracing for games. It also supports LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The ISP on the Exynos 2500 supports up to 320MP camera sensors and up to 8K 30fps video recording. The Exynos 2500 also comes with the Exynos 5400 modem, which supports 3GPP Rel. 17, enabling mmWave 5G support and peak download speeds of up to 12.1 Gbps. It also supports satellite connectivity, Bluetooth 5.4, and Wi-Fi 7. Samsung is also keen to highlight the NPU on the Exynos 2500, which it claims can run up to 59 trillion operations per second. This allows the Exynos 2500 to claim 39% better on-device AI performance than its predecessor, the Exynos 2400 (though we couldn't locate the TOPS figure for the Exynos 2400). Samsung doesn't mention which device will feature this SoC or when it will launch. However, we've been hearing about the Exynos 2500 coming first to the Galaxy Z Flip 7 for quite some time. Even now, leaker Universe Ice on X reiterated that the Exynos 2500 will be used in all Galaxy Z Flip 7 versions worldwide. If the leak pans out, this would mark the first time the company has deviated from using the same Snapdragon SoC on its flip and fold flagships, as Samsung is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. We'll find out how it unfolds in the coming weeks. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . You can stay anonymous or get credit for the info, it's your choice.

Samsung may never charge you for using Galaxy AI on your phone

Ever since the launch of the Galaxy S24 series in 2024, Samsung has bet big on Galaxy AI. With each flagship release, the company has introduced a number of new AI features, including some of our favorites. However, Samsung has consistently stated that Galaxy AI features would remain free only for a limited time. For the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung announced that Galaxy AI would be free until the end of 2025. Many assumed this would change with the Galaxy S25, but the same end-of-2025 window still applies. Samsung hasn't clarified what will happen after that — whether it will start charging for AI features or what the pricing might be. But now, it seems the company might just keep these features free indefinitely. Reputed Samsung leaker PandaFlash Pro on X revealed that Samsung may offer all of its in-house Galaxy AI features for free permanently. This excludes Gemini-powered features, which are under Google's control. But core Galaxy AI tools like Live Translator, Generative Edits, and Writing Tools will reportedly remain free. While Samsung hasn't officially confirmed this, considering the leaker's solid track record, the rumor seems quite credible. There's a chance Samsung could confirm it during the next-generation Galaxy foldable launch on July 9, 2025. Speaking of the new foldables, the leaker also shared that Samsung's upcoming most affordable foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, will support the same AI features as the pricier Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. It'll also include a 6-month Gemini Advanced subscription out of the box, meaning the budget foldable may deliver just as much AI power as its flagship siblings.

This upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 rival is thinner than a pack of gum

TL;DR HONOR has revealed that its upcoming Magic V5 foldable phone will be just 8.8mm thick when folded. That means the new foldable is thinner than a pack of chewing gum or a CD case. The Magic V5 is scheduled to launch in China on July 2. Samsung is gearing up to launch a Galaxy Z Fold 7 that looks significantly thinner than previous models. However, rival brand HONOR says its upcoming Magic V5 will be the thinnest book-style foldable phone on the market. Now, the company has dished out specific details. HONOR announced that the Magic V5 will be just 8.8mm thick when folded. That means it's thinner than a pack of chewing gum or a jewel CD case (~10mm). It's also slightly thinner than the OPPO Find N5, which is the current record holder at 8.93mm thick. I'm guessing the Magic V5's measurement doesn't include the sizable camera bump. In any event, the Magic V2 was already thinner than a pen, but the V5 clearly takes things a step further. So you should definitely keep an eye on this new model if you want a book-style foldable phone that won't bulge out of your pocket or take up a lot of space in your bag. HONOR hasn't disclosed the phone's weight yet, but it will likely have stiff competition from the upcoming vivo X Fold 5. Vivo says its upcoming foldable phone will be lighter than the X Fold 3, which was the world's lightest foldable at 219 grams. The HONOR Magic V5 is scheduled to launch in China on July 2. There's no word on a global launch window just yet, but history suggests that we'll see a wider release by August or September. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ .
