ASI attacked by sacked railway gangman with bow-arrow outside CBI office in Lucknow

ASI Virendra Singh (55), who suffered a chest injury in the incident on Friday, had investigated a case related to corruption in the Railways in 1993 after which the accused was dismissed from service. The accused, identified as Dinesh Murmu, had also attacked a policeman in 2005, they said.
Lucknow, May 24 (PTI) An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) with the CBI was attacked by a former railway gangman with a bow and arrow outside the agency's office in Hazratganj here following which the accused was arrested, police said on Saturday.
The ASI is undergoing medical treatment in Lucknow, and his wound was about five centimetres deep, he said.
The Station House Officer (SHO) said that Murmu has been booked for the offence of attempt to murder under the BNS and has been arrested. After completing the legal process, the accused will be sent to jail today.
The SHO said that Murmu was a railway gangman when Singh had investigated a case related to corruption in 1993 and the accused was dismissed from service.
According to police sources, Murmu had gone to Delhi to meet a CBI officer in 2005 and attacked a policeman, after which he was sent to jail.
In 2015, he was also arrested after a dispute with a GRP jawan at Jaunpur railway station and remained in jail for about three and a half years. PTI AR/NAV RT RT RT

Meghalaya Honeymoon murder: Police detain Indore property dealer for burning evidence
Meghalaya Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested two persons including a property dealer from Madhya Pradesh in connection with the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. The Indore-based property dealer identified as Silome James was detained from Bhonrasa toll-gate in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh while he was trying to flee to Bhopal on Saturday. He was held for concealing a box belonging to Raghuvanshi's wife and murder accused Sonam, who hid it in a flat in Indore after the murder. "Meghalaya Police SIT arrested one Silome James from Bhonrasa toll-gate in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh while he was trying to flee to Bhopal around 7.30 pm on Saturday. He is a property dealer and lessee of a building at Heera Bagh Colony in Indore where Sonam had stayed and kept the jewellery and other items she took with her after the incident," East Khasi Hills district SP Vivek Syiem told news agency PTI. Later, a security guard, identified as Balla Ahirwar, was also nabbed by the SIT from his native village in Ashok Nagar district of Madhya Pradesh around 2 AM on Sunday. Ahirwar was posted at the Heera Bagh Colony building. The two will be produced before a court in Indore, seeking a transit remand for being taken to Shillong for further investigation, Syiem added. According to the police, James led the SIT to the place where he disposed of all the items of the box by burning. During the investigation, Vishal alias Vicky Chauhan revealed that he had booked an online auto from his Indore residence to Sonam's hideout in the same city with a black bag containing her clothes, jewellery, ₹ 5 lakh in cash, and a pistol, reported India Today TV. After checking some CCTV footages, the police identified James carrying a black bag from the flat and putting it in a car, reported India Today TV. The flat was rented out to murder co-accused Vishal Chauhan by James. On June 13, James had told reporters that Chauhan approached him on May 30 and rented the flat for ₹ 17,000 per month, signing a formal agreement. Sonam allegedly stayed in the flat for several days on return from Meghalaya, before eventually surrendering to police in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh on June 8.

Army jawan, accomplice arrested for leaking info to ISI
In a major counter-espionage operation, Amritsar Rural Police has arrested an Indian Army jawan and his aide suspected of espionage activities linked to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The arrested accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopy Foji, a resident of Dhariwal in Amritsar— presently, serving in the Indian Army and posted in Jammu; and his associate Sahil Masih, alias Shali, a resident of Dhariwal in Amritsar. DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigation revealed that Gurpreet was in direct contact with operatives of the Pakistan ISI and is suspected of sharing sensitive and confidential information via pen drives. The key ISI handler involved in the case has been identified as Rana Javed, he added. The DGP said that two mobile phones containing virtual numbers, reportedly used to communicate with ISI operatives, have been recovered from the possession of both the accused. Further investigations are underway to dismantle the broader espionage-terror network and identify all collaborators in this case, he said. Sharing more details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Maninder Singh said that accused Gurpreet was recruited into the Army in 2016 and systematically exploited his official position to collect, store, and transmit classified military information via pen drives and discs. The espionage network was reportedly facilitated by an acquaintance identified as Arjan, a Dubai-based drug trafficker from Dhariwal, who introduced Gurpreet to ISI operatives five months ago, he said, while adding that since then, Gurpreet has actively engaged in the unauthorised collection and relay of sensitive military data to the ISI using pre-decided drop locations. The SSP said that in lieu of this espionage activity, Gurpreet was receiving monetary compensation through a complex financial network involving intermediary bank accounts of friends, relatives, and foreign associates to evade detection. In an intelligence-led operation, police teams have arrested Gurpreet and his associate Sahil, while they were attempting another handover of sensitive data, he said. The official said that further investigations are in progress to unravel the wider nexus and identify additional conspirators, both domestic and foreign-based. A case has been registered under sections 3, 5, and 9 of the Official Secrets Act and section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Lopoke police station in Amritsar Rural.
