'Fracture in arm, multiple surgeries': Man slams Ola after rider's negligence lands colleague in hospital
A social media user, Pratyush Singh, who describes himself as a Senior Brand Manager at DigWhistle, has called out cab aggregator Ola for its lack of 'accountability' after his Noida-based colleague suffered a "major fracture" in her left arm due to 'negligent driving by the rider.' Detailing her ordeal in a now-viral post, Singh shared a photo of his colleague, Siddhi Vijayvargia, along with a screenshot of the ride she had booked on the day of the accident, April 22.
'My colleague Siddhi Vijayvargia recently went through something no one should. She met with a serious accident while riding an Ola Bike, due to negligent driving by the rider. The result — a major fracture in her left arm, multiple surgeries, and over ₹ 3 lakh in medical expenses,' Singh wrote.
He alleged that Ola made promises of help but took no action. 'The reality has been delays, ignorance, and vague responses. It's been months. No concrete help, no empathy, and certainly no accountability,' he said.
Singh also criticised the company, tagging Ola and its CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, while questioning their absence of support and accountability. 'This isn't just about money. When someone places trust in your platform, the least you can do is stand by them when things go wrong,' he said.
He further said that Siddhi, who never imagined her life would be disrupted like this, is now having to struggle for the most basic things — support, transparency, and compensation.
'Siddhi didn't ask for this trauma. She didn't expect her life to come to a halt. And now she's forced to fight for what should've been automatically extended to her,' he said.
Reacting to the viral post, Ola wrote: 'We want to ensure that this matter is properly addressed, and we empathise with how distressing it may have been for you. We are actively working on the details you have provided and will connect with you at the earliest.' Screengrab from the viral post.
However, Singh wasn't entirely convinced. He said, 'Appreciate the response, but this issue has already been delayed far too long. We hope this isn't just another template reply, but a sign that Ola will finally take real, prompt action.'

Mithi River desilting fraud: Court refuses pre-arrest bail to BMC officer Prashant Tayshete
MUMBAI: A special court on Saturday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Prashant Tayshete, one of the three Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officers booked in connection with the alleged irregularities in executing contracts for desilting the Mithi River. The case involves alleged irregularities in executing contracts for desilting the Mithi River. (Raju Shinde/Hindustan Times) Special judge NG Shukla granted Tayshete, who works in the BMC's stormwater drains department, interim protection from arrest for two weeks to allow him to approach the high court for relief. It isn't clear why his anticipatory bail plea was rejected, as the detailed court order is not yet available. Tayshete was one of the 13 people and entities named in the FIR registered by the Mumbai police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for allegedly causing a loss of ₹ 65.54 crore to the BMC while executing contracts to desilt the Mithi River between 2013 and 2023. According to the EOW, Tayshete and two other accused BMC officers allegedly tailored the tender for the desilting contracts to benefit Kochi-based Matprop Technical Services Pvt Ltd, resulting in the company's monopoly over the contracts. When the BMC's contractors approached Matprop for desilting equipment, they were directed to approach alleged intermediaries Jay Joshi and Ketan Kadam, according to the EOW. The duo, in connivance with senior Matprop executives, allegedly rented the machines at inflated rates. The accused also allegedly fudged records to increase the amount of silt to be removed from the Mithi River to benefit certain contractors and the rates they were supposed to be paid. Tayshete had moved the court seeking protection from arrest on May 19. His counsel, advocate Vaibhav Punekar, submitted that Tayshete looked after stormwater drainage and was only involved in desilting a minor portion of the river, along with transporting the sludge removed for disposal. Punekar also told the court that Tayshete had no knowledge about the alleged fraud related to renting desilting machines. During his visit to Kerala, he was only tasked with machine demonstration work and submitted a report regarding that, Tayshete claimed in his plea. He was not connected with any forged memorandums of understanding and has not received any money related to the concerned work, the plea said. Requesting pre-arrest bail, Tayshete's lawyer argued that his client was a retired BMC officer who cannot influence any witnesses and tamper with any documents. He added that no case of cheating, forgery or conspiracy can be made out against him. Earlier this month, the court had granted bail to Joshi, saying there is no evidence to show that he was an alleged intermediary involved in compelling contractors to hire machines at inflated rates.

Soon after, two men, who posed as Good Samaritans, offered them help and also lifted their motorcycle and parked it properly. The couple thanked the two men for a sweet gesture as they were leaving the place. While talking to his wife shortly after the accident, the man realised that his gold chain worth Rs 75,000 was missing. The couple looked for it in the area but couldn't find it and that's when their suspicion fell on the two men who had helped them. As they decided to go after them, they found out that the duo might have stolen the keys to their motorcycle as well. The couple immediately rushed to the Kondhwa police station and registered a complaint against the two men. Vinay Patankar, Senior Police Inspector, told the Free Press Journal (FPJ) that they are investigating the CCTV footage in the area and the snatchers will be arrested soon. The weapons, smuggled via drones from across the border include four 9MM Glock pistols and two .30-bore PX5 pistols. (HT) Police have arrested a local operative of the module and recovered six foreign-made pistols from his possession, director general of police Gaurav Yadav said. The arrested accused has been identified as Onkar Singh alias Nawab, a resident of Jalalusma village in Amritsar. The weapons, smuggled via drones from across the border include four 9MM Glock pistols and two .30-bore PX5 pistols. The DGP said foreign-based handler Dharam Singh, who has been operating the terror module, is a close associate of Pak-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda. Further investigations are underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case and unearth the broader network, he said. Sharing operation details, Amritsar commissioner of police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the arrest followed precise intelligence and coordination. 'The accused disclosed during interrogation that the weapons were delivered via drones and were meant for disruptive activities,' he added. He said preliminary investigations revealed the accused was part of a sleeper cell activated by foreign-based handlers to destabilise the state. 'The weapons were to be distributed among local operatives to execute targeted killings and terror activities in the state. We are working to uncover the entire network and its international linkages,' Bhullar said, adding that further investigations are underway to identify other accomplices and handlers. A case under the Arms Act has been registered at Maqboolpura police station in Amritsar.
