Woman, 66, arrested over death of film director linked to missing diamond-encrusted Rolex
A 66-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection to the death of a film director police had linked to a missing Rolex watch.
The Metropolitan Police said the suspect was arrested on Wednesday over the death of Jennifer Abbott, also known as Sarah Steinberg.
Ms Abbott, 69, was found wrapped in a blanket on her bed with tape over her mouth by her concerned niece at her north London home on 13 June.
She was last seen walking her pet corgi in Camden, north London, on 10 June, with a post-mortem examination giving her cause of death as sharp force trauma.
An ambulance crew was called to her home in Mornington Place, Camden, at around 6pm on 13 June and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her pet Corgi had been shut in the bathroom for three days but survived.
Photographs from her social media show her posing with a range of different celebrities, including socialite Paris Hilton and actress Kate Hudson.
Originally from Arizona, she had studied Arts and Sciences at Merton Technical College in southwest London before moving to Los Angeles to become a film producer.
Her LinkedIn states she was the chief executive of Atlantis Rising Productions, and has also authored several novels.
A woman living nearby described Ms Abbott as 'a woman of taste', while William Currie, 63, a hairdresser, said: 'I just used to see her walking around with her little corgi.
'We just said hello, waved to each other and smiled. She used to walk the dog every couple of days. She kept herself to herself, she wasn't too sociable but kind, polite and well-mannered. The dog was fat and chubby and barked a lot.'
Detective Inspector Barry Hart, of Homicide Command, Specialist Crime North, said: 'Our deepest sympathies are with the victim's loved ones who are being supported by specialist officers at this time.
'We thank the local community for their patience as we continue to investigate this shocking crime. This arrest marks a significant step forward.
'There are several lines of enquiry ongoing, and we are working hard to establish the exact circumstances of this incident. Locals can expect to see an increased police presence in the area while we conduct our enquires.'

Three men guilty of repeatedly raping 12-year-old girl over three days
Three men are facing jail after being found guilty of rape after drugging a young girl and 'using her for their own horrendous gratification' over multiple days. Kevin Horvath, 26, and Ivan Turtak, 38, saw the 12-year-old victim in a supermarket car park in Dover and encouraged her to get in their car on August 11 2024, a Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) spokesperson said. She was then plied with drugs including crystal meth and amphetamine before she was raped and subjected to sexual acts by them and a third man, Ernest Gunar, 27, over a three-day period. The girl managed to escape from her captors after waking up before them on August 13. On Thursday, jurors at Canterbury Crown Court found the three men guilty of a series of sexual offences including rape of a 12-year-old girl after over 14 hours of deliberation. After trial, Gunar was convicted of two counts of rape against a child under 13; Turtak was convicted of one count; and Horvath was convicted of sexual assault. Horvath had already admitted three counts of rape against a child under 13, and one charge of assault by penetration of a child under 13, and Gunar, who is thought to be his cousin, had also admitted one charge of rape. Turtak initially denied rape but did admit taking indecent photos of a child. During the three-day period, whenever they went out in public, the girl was told that she would be killed if she tried to talk to anyone or tried to run away, a CPS spokesperson said. She was found by police on August 13 after escaping from the three men. Her phone had been taken from her and was later found in Horvath's car. Senior Crown Prosecutor Catherine Wear said: 'The three defendants took a 12-year-old from the street, took full advantage of her, plying her with drugs and using her for their own horrendous gratification. 'None of us can underestimate the impact this has had on her. When she was first found by police, she was unable to tell them what she had been put through, as she was so scared, and the details only came out gradually after that. 'Thanks to her courage in detailing what happened to her, despite the obvious distress that caused her, these three dangerous men have now been brought to justice for the appalling and callous crimes they committed against her. 'We hope these verdicts bring some small comfort to her as she starts to rebuild her life.' Horvath and Turtak, of Dover, along with Gunar, of Folkestone, will be sentenced on September 12.

Irvine police arrest animal trainer and his girlfriend after 10 dogs die in his care
Irvine police arrested an animal trainer and his girlfriend on Thursday after 10 dogs died in his care. Detectives began their investigation into trainer Kwong (Tony) Chun Sit, 53, and his girlfriend Tingfeng Liu, 23, after the dog's owner received a text message from the suspect on Wednesday saying that their dog had died in its sleep and had been cremated, according to the Irvine Police Department. After determining that at least 10 dogs died in Sit's care, officers recovered some of the animals' remains at different crematoriums, according to investigators. "We are working closely with veterinary professionals who will perform necropsies to determine how the dogs died. Our priority is determining if the death of the dogs was accidental or intentional," said in a statement. Officers booked Sit and Liu in Orange County Jail for animal cruelty and destruction of evidence after the attempted cremation of the dogs, according to Irvine PD. Detectives believe Sit worked with other pet owners in Southern California, under several company names, including "Happy K9 Academy." Irvine police urged any owners whose dogs died while under Sit's care or anyone with information about the case to contact investigators at rsteen@
