WNBA Announces Frustrating Brittney Griner News on Friday
WNBA Announces Frustrating Brittney Griner News on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The WNBA announced the latest All-Star voting results and several stars have some work to do in order to snag the prestigious honor. Fans will be watching to see how the final voting results shake out ahead of the WNBA All-Star Game on July 19. Advertisement One of the major questions is whether Atlanta Dream center Brittney Griner will be playing in the game. The WNBA All-Star Game will take place in Indianapolis, Ind., at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Fever and Pacers. Angel Reese is among the notable players outside the top-10 in WNBA All-Star votes. Reese sits at No. 13 with a little more than 173,000 votes. It is no surprise that Caitlin Clark leads all players with more than 500,000 votes. Atlanta Dream center Brittney Griner (42) reacts while answering questions on the court before the game against the Indiana Fever at Gateway Center Arena at College Zanine-Imagn Images Despite having an 8-4 record, the Dream are not highly represented in the early voting results. Atlanta does not have a player in the top-10 with Allisha Gray leading the way for the Dream at No. 14 with a little more than 168,000 votes. Griner is in danger of missing the WNBA All-Star Game as the Dream veteran is not listed among the top 30 players in the early voting. The Atlanta center is a 9-time All-Star and earned the honor her last two seasons with the Phoenix Mercury. Part of the challenge is Griner is on pace to have her worst statistical WNBA season despite the Dream having success on the court. Griner is averaging a career-low 10.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in her first 10 appearances with Atlanta in 2025. Advertisement The WNBA announced Griner sits at No. 37 with 57,308 votes. Griner and the other Dream players will be subject to a detailed WNBA voting process which include more than simply fans' results. "After all votes are tallied, players will be ranked by position (guard and frontcourt) within each of the three voting groups – fan votes, player votes and media votes," the WNBA detailed in a press release on Friday. "Each player's score will be calculated by averaging the weighted rank from the fan votes, the player votes and the media votes. The four guards and six frontcourt players with the best score will be named as starters for AT&T WNBA All-Star 2025. Fan voting will serve as the tiebreaker for players in a position group with the same score. "After the starters have been determined, the league's head coaches will select the 12 reserves. The head coaches will vote for three guards, five frontcourt players and four players at either position regardless of conference. " Advertisement Fans have until June 28 to vote for Griner and other WNBA stars.
