Johnny Marr Reveals Real Reason He Turned Down 'Eye-Watering' Offer To Reunite With Morrissey

Yahoo2 days ago

Music legend Johnny Marr has said there was a very simple reason he wasn't interested in getting The Smiths back together.
In September 2024, former Smiths frontman Morrissey claimed that he and his former bandmate had been made a 'lucrative offer' months earlier to reunite.
While he claimed that he'd been in favour of a reunion, he wrote that Marr had simply 'ignored the offer', though the man himself later insisted: 'I didn't ignore the offer – I said no.'
During an interview on the podcast Stick To Football, the guitar hero confirmed: 'We [had] an offer [to reunite] recently, but I said no.'
He went on to say the decision was 'a little bit about principles', adding: 'But I'm not an idiot, I just think the vibe's not right. Bad vibe.'
'It was an eye-watering amount of money,' Marr noted, but pointed out: 'I really like what I'm doing now which makes it a lot easier. I really like where I'm at. I still work, I craft, I still want to write the best song I've ever written. I want to be a better performer.'
In an attempted dig at his former bandmate last year, Morrissey wrote on his official website when Marr's dismissal of a Smiths reunion was made public: 'Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer.
'Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November. Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.'
Morrissey has come under fire on numerous occasions in the last few years for his commentary on politics both in the UK and abroad, as well as his apparent endorsement of far-right groups and parties.
Around the time that Morrissey first alleged that Marr had thrown the brakes on a Smiths reunion, the guitarist responded to one X user's calls for the group to get back together with a simple photo of a grinning Nigel Farage, the leader of the Reform party, of whom the Everyday Is Like Sunday singer has previously spoken favourably.

Jalen Hurts to release children's book "Better Than a Touchdown" in March 2026

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is a man of many titles. Super Bowl champion. Super Bowl LIX MVP. Philadelphia Citizen of the Year. One of TIME's 100 Most Influential People. Now, a published author. Hurts announced Monday the release of his first children's book, "Better Than a Touchdown," with a March 10, 2026, release date. The book is available for preorder from Penguin Random House. In a video posted on Instagram, Hurts said publishing a children's book has always been a dream of his. "I'm very excited to share this moment with you guys. It's always been a dream of mine to have my own children's book, and I'm blessed to say that dream has become a reality with 'Better than a Touchdown,'" Hurts said. "It's a lot of hard work, a lot of love put into this book. It's very heartfelt because without the lessons learned, I wouldn't be here where I am today. So I'm excited to extend those lessons to the next generation, and hopefully it helps lift them just as the many lessons I learned did the same for me." "Better Than a Touchdown" tells the story of Jalen and his friends, who are excited to begin the school year and try out for the football team, only to discover that the program has been cut. Jalen doesn't get discouraged and turns to the community to help save the program. "'Better than a Touchdown' is a love letter to the power of community, being there for one another, and how a piece of good advice can change the course of a day," the book's description reads on Penguin Random House. "Told with Jalen's signature wisdom and gorgeous art by Nneka Myers, Better than a Touchdown carries a message we can all learn from: that by working together, there's nothing we can't accomplish." Hurts joins Eagles legends Brian Westbrook ("The Mouse Who Played Football") and Brandon Graham ("BG's ABCs: Tackling Football and Life") to publish children's books.

Good News: Two of Apple TV+'s Most Slept-On Sci-Fi Shows Have Hopeful Plans for More

If you're a sci-fi fan, you really must check out Apple TV+—streaming home of so many of the best genre shows right now. Two standouts happen to have the same executive producer among their credits: David S. Goyer, who's part of team Murderbot as well as team Foundation. Murderbot's first season wraps up July 11, the same day Foundation returns for its third season. Neither show has been renewed beyond that, but to hear Goyer tell it, the future is looking bright. 'I don't want to give away too much, but I will say that moving from season season to season four is the first time we do not jump forward centuries,' Goyer said of Foundation. (The show's third season does indeed pick up 152 years after season two, as the season two finale had promised.) 'So in a way, one might think of season three and season four as one sort of 20-episode season.' That's exciting for fans of the Asimov adaptation to contemplate, as is his tease of season three, which builds out what fans have seen in the teaser and trailer so far: the story's big bad, the Mule (played by Game of Thrones' Pilou Asbæk), will play a major part this time around. 'I had always said, 'The Mule is season three. We have to earn the Mule,'' Goyer said. 'The reason why the Mule is so effective in the books is because it comes midway through the second novel, and you have to sort of set up the Foundation and set up the ways that its psychohistory seems to be kind of infallible and then the Mule is something that turns everything—the Mule doesn't work unless you've seen the Foundation succeed a number of times.' As for the future of Murderbot—which is based on Martha Wells' Murderbot Diaries book series—Goyer is similarly optimistic, echoing what series creators Chris and Paul Weitz told io9 ahead of the season premiere about its potential longevity, while pointing out the show has a surprisingly broad appeal. 'We've hit our Byzantine-metric threshold and I think it has performed well enough that there will be another season. It's not guaranteed, but I believe that to be the case,' Goyer said. 'And the response, critically, I think, could not have gone better. And what we're really interested in is, we knew we would get the sci-fi people in and the fans of the books, but we're just interested in sort of branching out beyond people that typically don't consider themselves fans of science fiction. Like my wife loves it, and she's not a science fiction fan. And so that's the audience that we're going for and we're hoping that that will continue.' Want more io9 news?
