Halifax Wanderers to host Wrexham AFC in under-21 series in Atlantic Canada in July
HALIFAX - Halifax Wanderers will play Wrexham AFC in a three-game under-21 series in July in Atlantic Canada.
The series will kick off July 5 at the Wanderers Grounds in Halifax before moving to Charlottetown on July 9 and Saint John, N.B., on July 12.
Wrexham, co-owned by Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds and American actor/producer Rob McElhenney, has won fame for its celebrity ownership and rise up the ranks captured in the documentary series 'Welcome to Wrexham.'
The Welsh side is headed to England's second-tier Championship, becoming the first team in England's top five tiers to win promotion three years in a row.
Founded in 1864, Wrexham bills itself as Wales' oldest professional football club and the third-oldest in the world.
This marks the third edition of the Wanderers' International Summer Series, which pits a Wanderers development team against pro sides from overseas.
'Wrexham AFC has become a truly global brand and is one of the fastest rising clubs in world football so we are thrilled to welcome them to the Maritimes this summer,' Halifax Wanderers president Derek Martin said in a statement. 'Our goal is to help grow this beautiful game across our region, so we are excited to be visiting Saint John for the first time and to bring a little bit of Hollywood to the Wanderers Grounds.'
In 2023, a Halifax Wanderers U23 team played Germany's Holstein Kiel in a three-game series in Moncton, Charlottetown, and Halifax. In 2024, the series expanded to five cities, with the Wanderers under-21 side facing U-21 teams from England's Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough.
'This is a fantastic opportunity for our young players and staff to experience soccer outside of the U.K. and Europe, providing much-needed development opportunities not just in soccer, but life skills too for our young professionals,' said Wrexham academy manager Andy Lowe. 'It also provides us with a great opportunity to build relationships with the local community, universities and professional clubs to develop future pathways and opportunities for young players.'
The Charlottetown game will be at UPEI Turf Field, while the Saint John stop is at the Canada Games Stadium.

The moment Ethan Fang made history at The 130th Amateur Championship 🏆 Ethan Fang has added a couple significant trophies to his resume over the last month. The rising junior at Oklahoma State won the 130th British Amateur Championship on Saturday, beating East Tennessee State sophomore Gavin Tiernan 1 up with a clutch birdie on the 36th hole at Royal St. George's. Fang became the first American to win the Amateur since Drew Weaver in 2007, and he's the first Oklahoma State player since Bob Dickson to win the Amateur. Dickson was also the last player to win both the British Amateur and U.S. Amateur in the same year. Fang will have the opportunity to do so in August at Olympic Club in San Francisco. 'It feels great. Still doesn't feel real yet. But I'm sure it'll kick in, and I'll celebrate with my team," Fang said. 'I was hitting it well all day, and I knew if I just stayed in it, some putts would drop, kind of have him work for it, and it ended up working out." With the win, Fang gets an exemption into the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush next month as well as the 2026 Masters and U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. In addition to the three majors, he earned a spot in the DP World Tour's Betfred British Masters. Fang led 2 up with three holes to play before Tiernan buried consecutive birdie putts to tie the match heading into the 36th hole. That's when Fang, hitting his approach shot first, floated an iron to the front part of the green and watched as it released to about 5 feet left of the flag. Tiernan's approach found the far side of the green, and he nearly jarred the birdie look, but when he didn't make it, Fang bounced back and clinched the match, becoming the 22nd American to win the British Am. Another important milestone for Fang is that he has virtually locked up his spot on the U.S. Walker Cup team, as if there was any doubt for the No. 7 amateur in the world. Last month, he went 2-1 in match play to help the Cowboys win their 12th national championship in school history. Now he has one of the biggest amateur events in the world, and by summer's end will join Jackson Koivun, Ben James and Michael La Sasso donning the red, white and blue at Cypress Point in September.

Korn Ferry Tour pro Myles Creighton shoots 59 with a bogey at the 2025 Wichita Open
A golf pro made history Saturday morning. Myles Creighton became the first Canadian player to ever break 60 on the Korn Ferry Tour. He fired an 11-under 59 in the third round of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open at Crestview Country Club. Not only did Creighton shoot 59 — he did it with a bogey. The 29-year-old from Nova Scotia made 12 birdies and just five pars to go along with that one blemish on the par-3 8th hole. He played his final six holes 5 under. And to add to the drama, he needed this chip to fall in for birdie on the 18th to secure the sub-60 round. Quade Cummins and Harry Hillier shared the lead at 13 under entering Saturday's third round, but before they could even tee off, they both found themselves two behind the new solo leader, Creighton, who started the day at 4 under, nine shots back, and finished 15 under to enter Sunday firmly in contention. Oh yeah, and he made an ace on Friday. Creighton recently competed in his national open — the PGA Tour's RBC Canadian Open — where he shot even par through two days and narrowly missed the cut.

Ravens stars host second annual youth football camp in Nigeria
Odafe Oweh and Nnamdi Madubuike are growing the great game of football by hosting a football camp in Lagos. As easy as it is to love the NBA and Major League Baseball, there's just something about the NFL and this beautiful game of American football. It's our game. These are our Baltimore Ravens, but over the years, there has been an obvious attempt to expand the National Football League's viewing audience. NFL games have been played in London, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, Dublin, and Melbourne. Hopefully, games will be played in Africa at some point. Where would this game be without the contributions of both stars and legends who hailed from the Mother Continent or were of African descent? There are too many to name, but guys like Christian Okoye, Ezekiel "Ziggy" Ansah, Emmanuel Ogbah, and Tamba Hali come to mind. So do Ravens stars Odafe Oweh and Nnamdi Madubuike. The latter two have joined forces to help grow the game and maybe mentor some of its future stars. Odafe Oweh and Nnamdi Madubuike host a youth football camp in Lagos OTAs and Ravens mandatory minicamp are in our rearview mirror. The guys are taking a break before they tackle training camp. Oweh and Madubuike headed to Lagos, where they are hosting a second annual youth football camp. There are so many great things that can be said about this, but perhaps the best compliment that Oweh and Madubuike can be given is a 'thank you'. This is awesome and should be celebrated. Most of us found success because someone believed in us. Someone invested a little extra time, and that made a world of difference. That's what two great Ravens are doing. Here's a tip of the cap. Maybe there isn't another Odafe Oweh or Nnamdi Madubuike in the bunch, but there might be. There might also be some future doctors or lawyers. Whatever they choose to do in life, something can be guaranteed. Some of the kids in this mixture will one day credit this for helping them find their confidence. That should put a smile on all of our faces.
