SUPERMAN's New Theme Channels John Williams with a Modern Twist — GeekTyrant

At a press event in Manila for Superman , fans got to hear a longer cut of the film's theme. It's essentially a remix of John Williams' iconic Superman: The Movie score, now charged with a subtle electric guitar that adds some modern bite while still honoring the legacy of the original. We've heard small pieces of it in the trailers, but this new version gives us a fuller taste of what director James Gunn and composer John Murphy are aiming for in DC Studios' big reboot. Gunn has never been shy about his love for Richard Donner's original films and the legendary score that defined a generation. In fact, he's been upfront about making the Williams theme a cornerstone of the reboot from the start: 'I knew from the beginning what I wanted to do with the music. I thought about it a lot, 'Are we going to do something completely different? Are we going to use the [John] Williams' theme?' 'That soundtrack is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time, and when I was a kid, really... the thing I loved the most about the movie was the music. That was the thing I took home with me more than anything else." Rather than going full retro, Gunn and Murphy aimed for something that threads the needle between reverence and reinvention: 'But I knew we were doing something that was harkening back to the past but also looking forward to the future, and so it was about finding that balance. 'John Murphy is a composer who I love working with, and he started working on the music before the script was even finished... I said, 'I want to use a version of the Williams' theme, but I want to do our own version of it.' So, that's what you hear.' The decision to remix instead of reinvent may not satisfy everyone, but it's undeniably effective at evoking the feeling of classic heroism and nostalgia with a fresh coat of paint. Superman is 'set in a world very different from ours and far removed from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for ages, and we'll see how it affected this world's history and has shaped the DCU." Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025.

This is a massive 56% off, and savings this big don't come around too often. And since it features the iconic Resident Services building from the Animal Crossing game, it's a must have for fans. Or, if you're on a smaller budget, you can snag these Lego Sunflowers on sale for just $7 at Amazon. My favorite Lego deals are listed below. For more savings, check out our Amazon promo codes, and see the best deals in Home Depot's 4th of July sale. Add a little sunshine to your day with these pretty Lego sunflowers. This simple build is excellent for anyone of any age or skill level. Plus, you can display them however you like in a vase or amongst real blooms. Was regular Superman not mech enough for you? Well, this Lego set gives the hero an upgrade. You get minifigures of Superman and Lex Luthor, as well as a 4.5-inch tall poseable mech for Superman to pilot. These Lego Roses really brighten up a living space, and they make for an excellent gift. The set comes with 120 pieces, and is relatively simple to build. What's more, these roses will never wilt! Lego Botanicals sets are super popular, but if your kiddo isn't quite old enough for them yet, this is the Lego deal you need. Suitable for ages two and up, this cute garden build comes with flowers, bees and other critters. There are also blocks marked one to five, to help teach counting. Nothing's more important than family... or this Lego Speed Champions Fast and Furious set. Based on the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) that appeared in the movie 2 Fast 2 Furious, this set looks slick and it even comes with a Brian O'Conner minifigure. Every good villain needs a getaway car, so you'll want to add this Venom Muscle Car set to your Lego collection. As well as minifigures of Venom, Spider-Man and Spider-Woman, you get to build Venom's cool black car, and a mini bank vault full of gold bars. With this beginner-friendly 282-piece StarFighter set, young padawans can relive "Attack of the Clones" scenes. It comes with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Taun We minifigures, plus an R4-P17 LEGO astromech droid figure. This deal gets you a set of six mini F1 race cars, complete with logos and turning wheels. Just note that they're sold in a blind box format, so you may get repeats. Take your minifigures on a tour of Lego City with this double-decker sightseeing bus set. The bus has doors that open and close and space for the minifigs to sit inside or on the roof deck. Terrify and amaze all visitors with this Lego Jurassic World Dinosaur Fossils T. Rex Skull! This set comes with 577 pieces, allowing you to build a T. Rex Skull, footprint and an information plate. It's perfect for dinosaur lovers aged nine and up. This super-cute Lego set is a must have for Animal Crossing fans. It comes with the resident services building, a small tea set as well as the legendary guitarist K.K. Slider and his van. You also get minifigures of Isabelle and Audie. Rather than a diverse bouquet, this Lego Icons Orchid represents a blossoming orchid plant. It's filled with realistic details, including two budding orchid flowers to join the six fully blossomed ones. This is a beautiful display piece and an excellent gift. This Lego Icons Flower Bouquet features 15 unique stems with several different flower varieties. You could separate them, or leave them bunched up a beautiful bouquet that doubles as home decor. This is the way. The Lego Star Wars The Mandalorian Helmet plays an iconic role in the Disney Plus series, and now you can build a 584-piece replica at home. Get it while it's on sale now during Star Wars Day festivities. If you're a cat lover, this Lego Ideas Tuxedo Cat set is a must-own. Once built, it comes in a cute sitting pose, and has options for different eye colors and mouth positions. Just make sure your real cat doesn't knock it off your shelf.

THE WALKING DEAD: DEAD CITY's Finale Ends with a Death that Changes NYC Forever

The Walking Dead: Dead City's finale took us into a fiery battle between Bruegel's collective and Negan's new force. While there's usually someone who ultimately gets the upper hand and wins, I'd say that this is a loss on both ends in my opinion. Things go awry, many lives are lost and the city is really no better than when it started. Honestly, I found the groups of gangs to be a vibe and believe that maybe it is not best to have militaristic forces like New Babylon telling people what to do. Negan ends up with pretty much no power, no Ginny, and a knife to his back, thanks to Maggie. And, well, Bruegel ends up suffering a terrible demise at Negan's hands. New Babylon brings in its second wave and controls the methane. And while Dama and Herschel want to build a different future, it's going to be hard for them to do it without the resources and people power. RELATED ARTICLE THE WALKING DEAD: DEAD CITY Sets the Stage for a Major Battle, Thanks to Bruegel It is The Walking Dead universe so happy endings are rare and not expected at this point. Instead, we longtime fans get our joy from the show's big battles and the finale's fight is a great one. The choreography, the flamethrowers, and all the tension building up to brutal violence is such a treat. Actor Kim Coates, who portrayed Bruegel, spoke to us about filming that scene, which took multiple shoots due to some technical setbacks. 'We lost power one night,' Coates told us. 'So we were back to that church oh, I don't know, maybe four or five times when we were only supposed to be there twice. But, it's such an old, gorgeous, not used much anymore place of worship and to be able to turn it into this place with the walkers and the gangs.' He continues, 'In Sons of Anarchy, we had bikes and incredible riding and that world of the club. Now, with The Walking Dead, I'd never been on it before. I'd never seen it before and to see it all firsthand is no joke. The technical side, the crew, the stunt people, the walkers, it's no joke. It's full on. And we had to film it nighttime night after night after night… It's really impressive how they do it and how safe the set was.' Sadly, we won't get any more Bruegel in The Walking Dead's future. He was quite the dapper and hilarious dude who really got under Negan's skin. While they were staunch frenemies on screen, the love between Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kim Coates, who are real life pals, on set was undeniable. 'When we got to meet in this world, it was easy because the trust was there,' he affirmed. 'And he supported everything I did. And I think one of the biggest problems he had with me was he would laugh in the middle of a lot of takes. [laughs] Maybe Negan shouldn't be laughing, so we had to redo them a couple of times. I made him laugh so much, but I love the guy… It's been great to work with him and Lauren [Cohan]. I really have a lot of respect for Lauren, too.' What will happen next in the Big Apple? We will have to see if a third season shows Maggie and Negan teaming up to reclaim the streets and convince Herschel to come home.
